All working fine now so whatever you did . . Big thanks. This is a great App. I use it to access my local authority library for audio books. Been working fine but suddenly stopped today. The title I’m part way through would not load. Delete and reload the App to no avail. Won’t even let me login - just says “there is no internet connection” . . Well there is, that’s how I’m writing this review. I’ve emailed the support team but waiting a response. ### 2/5 — Unstable *2026-05-02, version 8.4.3* I have been using this app for a long time and periodically it ‘misbehaves’. Ie won’t return an audiobook or similar. Today it won’t return an audiobook and won’t load the next one so I have deleted the app to reload and it won’t reload as it says that I have no internet connection. ### 3/5 — Sleep function *2026-02-10, version 8.3.0* The sleep function currently abruptly cuts off the audio after the selected time. The app badly needs the functionality to gradually fade out the audio - as Audible, Borrowbox etc does - to allow the listener time to act to extend the sleep timer, if they wish. ### 3/5 — Books *2026-01-23, version 8.3.0* Never really had a problem with the App except this week. I contacted them and it was resolved in 24 hours. I listen to at least 10 audio books a month and am happy with this App. ### 2/5 — Basic *2025-10-23, version 8.02.41* Very basic functionality, sluggish responses. Unable to skip back to beginning of the chapter being listened to, it goes back to the start of the previous chapter. The 30-second forward/back function doesn’t always work. Searches sometimes take forever, as if the app has frozen. Haven’t been able to reserve anything so far as there doesn’t appear to be a reserve button. Being able to read and listen to books for free is great but this app has just the bare minimum when it comes to functionality. Libby is by far the best of the library apps for audiobooks, followed by BorrowBox. ### 4/5 — Works well *2025-03-07, version 8.02.41* This is one of 3 audio apps that I use and recently there was a slight problem after an update but their customer service support were very quick to find the fault and repair not only that there were very kind and polite when I emailed them. It maybe because of going via West Sussex Library service but I do hope that many, many audio books are loaded, good app and works well ### 1/5 — Good catalogue but!!! *2024-09-26, version 8.02.41* Down loaded some time ago but always some glitches tried reusing a disaster blocked and crashed re downloaded now says have no internet connection to sign in have a very good connection I will have to give up also difficult to get customer assistance ### 1/5 — Clunky to use and crashes *2024-08-27, version 7.1.45* I have just updated the app, and I wish I hadn’t. The last time I use this app to listen to an audiobook (over a year ago) at least the audiobook worked. This time, I click on borrow, and also agreeing to receive notifications for when the loan is about to expire, the app crashes. Time, and time again. Even after I close it down and restart it. It is also very unattractive to search and not very user-friendly. A pity, because the titles are good ### 1/5 — Does weird things on my iPhone *2024-03-01, version 7.1.2* Clunky - if I pause then begin again the volume automatically is turned down. When listening to audiobooks, there’s no way of knowing (that I can see) how many hours I you are into the book or how long you have left. If this was added it would make the app experience much nicer! ### 3/5 — Latest version has fixed the update that broke the app! *2023-06-15, version 7.1.2* Update: took a few days, but the app does seem to have been fixed. I did appreciate that when the app first went down, I was able to contact the developer via email using the “send feedback” option within the app’s “More” menu, and not only got an email reply in 24hrs to say they were working on the problem, but then also a further email to notify me when the app had been updated with fixes, as well as details of how to apply those updates to the app on my phone. Thank you for the individual response - I know that’s not a given. And it’s otherwise been a good app - basic in some respects (eg. doesn’t show how long each chapter is in the chapter list of audiobooks - would help me estimate where to rewind to next day, after I’ve fallen asleep listening!) but easy to use, including to browse and search the catalogue, and to reserve or borrow items. Thanks for the continued development work - I’ll definitely continue using it :-) *** Worked fine until the latest update a few days ago - can’t listen to anything for more than a couple of minutes now, before the app shuts itself down…. You only get to borrow the audio/ebooks for a few days, so this is cutting into valuable listening time! Any chance you could roll back to the previous version while you fix the fixes? Happy to re-review once this gets sorted as it was basically a decent app before if a bit limited (eg. no durations given in chapter lists). ### 3/5 — Good with some problems *2023-06-12, version 7.1.0* So good to be able to access free audio books. Slightly clunky app as mentioned. I had downloaded a book but it kept stopping and so deleted app and reinstalling. Returns process is quite ridiculous ### 1/5 — Unusable with latest ‘fixes’ *2023-06-09, version 7.1.0* This app is sub par compared to others on a basic level. Audio Books frequently don’t download, the return button disappears and the search comes up with no results when I’m aware the author and/or books are in the library. There also seems to be no facility to add books to a wish list for future loans. It’s now unusable with the latest update. I listen to an audiobook for 5 to 10 minutes then silence and the app has thrown me out. I have to open it, choose the audio book and press play only to get another 5 minutes. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2023-02-16, version 7.0.8* I routinely use other apps to download and listen to audiobooks but this one is terrible - every other time I go to open it I just get a blank screen and have to reinstall the app. Then when it does work, the book does not always open to the last place. And buggy. *2022-11-26, version 7.0.8* This is quite a nice app that gives me access to my public library’s selection of audio-books. In general it’s OK, and does mainly what it needs to do, but it’s distinctly clunky in places. In particular the search facility needs some serious attention, as does the method of reading through the the list of search results. I understand from the developers that this is in the process of being re-designed, so I won’t go into detail here. With such design issues one would not expect things to change quickly, though change they must. However, the authors have shown themselves able and willing to fix bugs, as the most recent releases have demonstrated. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Useless *2026-06-25, version 8.4.3* Too many issues and getting more frequent. Books will not download or play. Very annoying. Website won’t launch. Even the “app support” link on app page doesn’t load. That’s not even a joke. I have a valid password for my main library account, but this app won’t accept it because it’s more than 10 characters long. That is ridiculous. A library app should not prevent users from logging in just because they use a proper secure password. Has the app been discontinued? ### 1/5 — 1 star (January 2025) *2025-01-18, version 8.02.41* 1 star review for the app. I unable to log in as my library password is longer than 8 characters and the app reports that the password is maxed at 8 characters. ### 1/5 — Awful app *2025-01-02, version 8.02.41* If you miss the way apps were designed in about 2010 this is for you.. absolutely horrible to use, slow and has almost no content in it. A disgrace that developers are selling this garbage to public libraries in 2025 and no doubt wasting precious public funds on it too. The people who make this should be ashamed of themselves! The interface is a bit clunky but you get used to it and there’s a wide variety of books, many I wouldn’t have ever found without this app. ### 5/5 — Excellent customer support and good audiobook selection. *2023-06-17, version 7.1.2* I listen to a lot of audiobooks and like that uLIBRARY often has the full series of books available (eg, Wallender, Ann Cleeves, etc). I recently contacted customer support over a problem with the app and the next morning, received a courteous and helpful reply explaining that the problem was being fixed by the developers. The following day I was emailed instructions on how to reinstall the app, which worked perfectly. I think it’s a great library service. ### 5/5 — Very highly recommended free service! *2022-09-13, version 7.0.6* I cannot speak highly enough of uLIBRARY. I would be absolutely lost without it.. there are so many audiobooks to choose from, I regularly listen to one a week and am a very happy user of this free, top quality service. The customer support is absolutely superb, they have always got back to me immediately and sorted any issues. I cannot emphasise enough how brilliant uLIBRARY is, I am always telling my friends about it, I cannot believe that people still pay for audio books which you can just get free on uLIBRARY! It is a million times easier to use than Libby or Dropbox. Give it a go, I would be lost without it.. it is easy to use, accessible, free, an excellent way to get free top quality audio books on your phone or iPad. ### 5/5 — Great audiobook app *2022-08-17, version 7.0.6* This app is easy to use. You can download and listen to multiple books, search titles and authors. It also suggests titles and keeps a history of books. Free audiobooks. What’s not to like? ### 5/5 — A fantastic service *2022-06-14, version 7.0.5* I’ve been using uLIBRARY for sometime now It works seamlessly and is so easy to use. I can usually/always get the audiobooks I want without having to go into a virtual queue and they have some cracking titles. Perhaps listeners aren’t as aware of uLIBRARY as they are of Audible or Libby. Give it a go. It’s free with your library and and it’s well stocked I had a minor issue a few days ago when I book ended unexpectedly. As it clearly wasn’t the actual end I contacted their customer service…easy to do…and within a day they were back to me having identified the issue and fixed it. Even better, a couple of days later they followed up to see if I was a happy listener. I was and am. Give them a go!! ### 5/5 — Brilliant customer service *2022-05-27, version 7.0.5* I was having trouble accessing the titles and with my personal details and the customer service agents resolved all my problems within a day. The range of titles on the app has much improved as well, so 5 stars from me! ### 5/5 — Great app *2022-02-16, version 7.0.4* Discovered the app during lockdown and it’s a great way to listen to audio books. ### 5/5 — Works effectively *2022-02-14, version 7.0.4* I have been using the uLibrary app for a while and found it easy to use and the variety is good (saved lots of money too as my local UK library is connected to it). eAudiobooks are great for people who want to get on an do other tasks whilst being read to. Readers are good and there are some top authors on the lists. Recently I had a technical problem and had to contact the help desk. I was pretty surprised and pleased to have a response and a solution within a day.
