## What is UltraTrainer?

Description

UltraTrainer is your virtual coach, trainer, and training partner. It is a revolutionary timer which was not available previously on any mobile device.

There are two types of intervals which can be mixed in UltraTrainer:
- Traditional Intervals
- Randomized Action Intervals

In a traditional interval, the interval is a specified duration. This is what you would normally expect from an interval timer. Routines such as Tabata, HIIT, etc, are incredibly easy to setup and modify.

The Randomized Action Intervals is where UltraTrainer truly breaks new ground. UltraTrainer will call out Actions for you to perform in random order AND at random times that you control.

For example, if you are shadow boxing or hitting the heavy bag, you would normally think of a combination of punches and throw them. Instead of consciously coming up with the combination, UltraTrainer can tell you what punches to throw. It can call out 'JAB!', then a second later 'JAB CROSS!', then a second and a half later, 'CROSS HOOK!', until the interval ends.

This is how UltraTrainer can be your virtual coach/trainer/training-partner: you can not train reactionary reflexes without somebody or something telling you what to do in random order and at random times.

Martial artists can work on reflexes by creating timers that randomize movement ("Forward!", "Backwards!") and actions ("Sprawl!").

Cyclists can simulate mountain road courses by setting up intervals that randomize pedaling speed.

Crossfit athletes make HEAVY use of timers for quick high-intensity workouts. The sample timer "Fight Gone Horribly Wrong" is based on "Fight Gone Bad" but with a twist. Each of the 5 stations is called out in random order and the duration at each station is randomized between 20 seconds and 1 minute. The result? A franticly paced workout because you never REALLY know when the next station will be called out so you have to try to completely exert yourself at the current station.

For a complete workout, you can set up a Timer Group which will play individual timers back to back. Start out with your favorite Warm Up timer, then run through your favorite Training timer, and end with a Stretching timer. UltraTrainer will run you through your full workout automatically.

Exclusive to our products, users can browse the Timer Exchange, a community where people freely exchange timers. Search, browse, and download timers that other users have uploaded. If you want, you can upload your own timers to share with others.

You can also trade timers directly with a friend using E-mail, or the clipboard to transfer them other ways.

UltraTrainer can be used for martial arts, mma, boxing, bjj, circuit training, interval training (Tabata, HIIT), Crossfit, yoga, meditation, cycling, running / sprinting, swimming, time-management, multi-stage recipes for cooking, weight lifting, stretching, and anything else you might be able to think of. As you can see, UltraTrainer can be used in all sorts of situations.

### 5/5 — Best out there

*2023-05-28, version 7.5*

15 years later, it is still the best interval trainer out there. Timer groups, Timers, intervals, and activities within them means this is the most versatile app of its kind. It needs Apple Watch support and text to speech (although the record voice works as a a great alternative). But this app should not have been abandoned. It’s the gold standard.

### 4/5 — Needs to connect too Apple Music

*2020-10-28*

Great app. Needs to connect to Apple Music. Also needs to fix the orientation from upright to side

### 5/5 — Best timer on the market

*2020-04-02, version 7.5*

100% customizable, including with user recorded sounds. Has a random interval setting. Allows timer groups, timers, then sets, then actions with in sets, all of which can be customized. Nothing on the market is as flexible. Great for mma, boxing, grappling drills, or any type of interval trainer.

Just needs an Apple Watch app.

### 5/5 — Exceptionally useful

*2019-09-22, version 7.5*

I am a professional martial artist and have used Ultra Trainer for years. Yeah, there’s a bug or two but there is no other random interval timer in existence that I know of, and it’s invaluable for solo training with a heavy bag. You record whatever combos you want and then while you work the bag UT makes you do them at random times. This is a game changer for building reaction time and adaptability. Without the app, you do a combo when you’re ready on your time, but with it you are forced to react just like you would to changing circumstances in a fight. I wish there was a dedicated hardware unit that would do the same thing but as is, Ultra Trainer does it’s job admirably. If you are concerned with it’s integration with your music library, you aren’t training hard enough! Thanks devs. Superior product that fills a real need.

### 4/5 — Great app for workouts but developer appears to have stopped updating it

*2019-09-17, version 7.5*

I love this app. It's one of my top apps I use for my training and workouts. But it would seem the app is no longer receiving updates. It has some bugs in it now that I would love to see fixed but isn't getting done. Because of that, I can only give 4 star rating even though this is a 5 star app

### 3/5 — Crashes When You Record Yr Own Noises

*2018-02-04, version 7.4*

When I try to add new drills (eg “slip drill,” “footwork ladder,” and so forth) using the record function the app closes. This is terribly frustrating. Tried to email the app devs but emails bounced back. Please fix!

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2017-12-30, version 7.4*

Can’t get app to work. Crashes every time I try to record in action audio files. Haven’t gotten farther than that as that is something I need this to do for the results I want. Tried to email customer support and no response.

### 3/5 — Most recent update has some Voiceover issues

*2017-11-05, version 7.4*

Used to have great Voiceover support. Now however, there some unlabeled buttons in the timers. Please fix. Would be happy to give a 5 star rating otherwise.
IPhone SE iOS 11.1.

### 4/5 — Well done.

*2016-09-25, version 7.3.1*

Please add Apple Watch functionality. It would be very useful to have my watch vibrate/tap when it is time to change intervals.

### 1/5 — Yep they screwed the pooch on the last update.

*2016-03-10, version 7.2*

Used to be a four star app. Only thing keeping it from being a five was the set up was a bit tedious. I set up twenty new actions and went to set the event time and the minute and second part go to zero regardless of what you set it to. Only the quarter second actually registers. With out this feature it is useless. Even on the preloaded program if you touch the intervals they set to zero. Can't adjust them so they are useless. Even imd tech support but nothing.
