## What is umami?

A recipe assistant for those who want to recreate authentic flavors abroad.

umami matches your "origin region taste baseline" with "ingredients available where you live now" and proposes recipes that get as close to home-country cooking as possible — using only ingredients from mainstream supermarket chains. Unlike typical recipe apps that mix in localized adaptations, umami fixes the target at the origin region's everyday home cooking.

WHO IS THIS FOR
- Cooking your spouse's homeland dishes with local groceries
- Recreating your own home-country recipes abroad
- Making authentic Mapo Tofu, Shukmeruli, Gapao Rice, Bibimbap without the local fusion twist
- Skipping chain-restaurant adaptations and going straight to home cooking

KEY FEATURES

ORIGIN x CURRENT cross-search
Set your origin and current location independently. "Korean living in Japan", "Japanese in Korea", and other bidirectional setups are all supported.

DO NOT ADD list (our differentiator)
The unique feature of umami. We explicitly call out ingredients that local cooks habitually add but the authentic origin recipe never includes (sugar in Mapo Tofu, milk in Shukmeruli, etc.) — the things that quietly push your dish away from the real flavor.

Local supermarket constraint
Recipes use only ingredients reliably available at large chain supermarkets in your current country (Aeon/Life in JP, Emart/Lotte Mart in KR, Wal-Mart/Yonghui in CN, Safeway/Kroger/Whole Foods in EN). No specialty Asian markets, no online-only items.

Substitution blends
When an authentic seasoning isn't available, we suggest N:M blends of locally-available substitutes (e.g., black vinegar + soy sauce to approximate Zhenjiang vinegar) with notes on what flavor nuance you're trading off.

5 languages
Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), English. Ingredient names are shown in both the local language and your UI language — so you can show the local script at the supermarket.

Offline continuity
Recipes you've opened are stored on your device and remain accessible even without internet. History works on the plane, in spotty cellular areas, anywhere.

Ambiguous-name resolution
Dishes that share names ("naengmyeon" / "liang-mian" / "Morioka reimen") show a candidate list so you can pick the right one.

PRICING
10 free new-recipe AI generations per month. Recipes you've already generated can be reopened unlimited times.

PRIVACY
No account needed, anonymous use. We do not collect or store personal information. Only the dish-name query is sent anonymously for recipe generation.
