### 5/5 — Perfect

*2026-06-12, version 3.34*

I love this app. I am slowly adding all my own recipes and it’s pretty easy to scan handwritten recipes - they need a bit of a tidy up but works ok. Love the import recipe function- I reckon it’s 80% reliable, and I guess when it doesn’t work it’s around the settings of the site hosting the recipe being imported. Have just started seriously using the grocery list function, that’s super easy too. I love that it is simple and intuitive to use. Also love the idea I can export my recipes - family recipe book will one day emerge.

### 5/5 — This is awesome

*2026-05-30, version 3.34*

Works so well!

### 5/5 — Amazing app + feature request

*2026-05-24, version 3.34*

Hi, I really like this app and use it daily for sharing recipes and grocery lists with my partner. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature that allows to move checked items from one list to another. This will make it easier to create a list that serves as a food inventory since once food is bought it can be checked off the grocery list and easily be added to the pantry list and viceversa when the pantry food is used up. In general I was wondering if adding features that would allow you to keep track of your current items is possible. Other features could include a ‘best by date’ that items can be sorted by. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Best recipe saving app there is.

*2026-05-15, version 3.34*

Utterly perfect

### 5/5 — Best I’ve found

*2026-04-25, version 3.34*

Absolutely love this app. It basically made everything so much simpler in my daily life that it’s wild. Features and being able to import recipes are great but I even started adding simple things like hotdog night because it’s makes planning so simple. I bought the lifetime plan and have no regrets. Keep up the great work!!

### 5/5 — Top

Great App, easy to use with others and possible to Import recipe from other sources

### 5/5 — Reliable, easy to use, and free!

*2026-04-20, version 3.34*

I've been using umami for at least two years now and it's never let me down. I love to import recipes and it's super easy to adjust any part of a recipe as needed. 10/10 I recommend it to anyone who's looking for a recipe manager

### 5/5 — Great purchase

*2026-04-13, version 3.34*

Such a well designed app that is straightforward to use and makes it easy to import recipes. I searched for a long time for a good organization system and was happy to finally find one!

### 5/5 — Very impressed

*2026-04-08, version 3.34*

First time I have found a user friendly, intuitive recipe app. Easily imports from Facebook and allows me to add tags and scale ingredients. Love it🥰

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2026-04-07, version 3.34*

Great app! Super helpful for managing recipes. I also like the groceries list imported from recipes, and I can also choose what ingredients to import in. Hopefully there will be a Safari extension for MacOS in the future for occasions that I find via Safari. I also am grateful for the affordable subscription prices, as a college student with limited income. Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Super cool app

*2026-04-06, version 3.34*

Can bring in 99% of the recipes on social. Has ability to tag “shrimp” or “breakfast” and also to invite family members to weigh in on what they want for supper. Or to add their own recipes. Very cool

### 5/5 — A+++

### 5/5 — Excellent

Love it!

### 5/5 — Great app, but could be perfect!

*2026-03-31, version 3.34*

I've been a fan of recipe managers for decades, and Umami is one of the best available. It is well worthy of a 5-star rating, but it has one small annoyance that I hope the developer resolves someday. I have to print a lot of recipes, as my wife likes to keep them in 3-ring binders. When you print any recipe in Umami, the color picture that prints with the recipe is huge...enormous, and simply not necessary. A thumbnail would be sufficient.

This causes Umami to use at least two pages of paper for each recipe, which is less than ideal. Additionally, there is a lot of wasted white space on the printed recipe, further wasting paper and space when trying to keep a recipe to a single printed page. Please, either make the picture smaller or give users the ability to turn off printing it.

### 5/5 — The best recipe app

*2026-03-28, version 3.34*

I LOVE this app. It’s obvious thought and skill went into creating this app—the attention to detail and thoughtfulness is evident in every interaction. It’s deceptively simple (exactly what you want in a UI), but powerful and functional. I’ve used a lot of other recipe apps and this one is without a doubt my favorite. If you’re looking for a recipe app, don’t sleep on this one.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-03-26, version 3.34*

I love this recipe app. It is so easy to import new recipes, pictures and directions. I especially love that it saves the url that the recipe came from, in case I need to refer back to the website or tutorial. If only the app could tell me ahead of time, if the new recipes will taste good or not 😂😂😂

### 5/5 — Very Functional App

*2026-03-24, version 3.34*

I researched recipe apps and settled on Umami and I’m very happy I did. It’s easy to import recipes from various formats. The price is great. It’s easy to share recipes. And I can also export to PDFs as needed.

### 5/5 — Love this App

*2026-03-22, version 3.34*

While searching for a way to organize recipes I find on line I came across this App ! It’s so neat !
I bought a lifetime subscription!

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2026-03-18, version 3.34*

This app is so easy to use and easy to organize your recipes, saving from IG is so easy and you can click on a link to take you back to IG to watch the video.
Jeff the developer is super responsive if you experience any issues.

### 3/5 — Import didn’t add details

*2026-03-12, version 3.34*

The first recipe I imported was from instagram. It didn’t have the ingredients or directions in the caption and so it showed up blank in the Umami app. When I imported the same recipe into Recime app, it took the ingredients and instructions from the audio of the video and added the text automatically. Needless to say I’ve decided to go with Recime instead, even if it’s a bit more expensive because it just has better features that actually do what I need it to do.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2026-01-12, version 3.30*

Only works about 1/3 of the time. I usually get an error message. Switched to another recipe organizer and haven't run into any issues with that one.

### 1/5 — Will not transport recipes

*2025-11-08, version 3.24*

I wish so much it would have worked. I emailed umami and never got a response.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-10-22, version 3.24*

It stops being able to upload recipes after a very brief period from sources like Instagram. The app is useless if you have to add the recipe manually versus scan and upload. I am so disappointed! It was great while it worked the first couple days.

### 1/5 — Cost

*2025-10-19, version 3.24*

The app works great but the cost is way too high. I will be using paper and pencil longer. It’s too bad.

### 1/5 — You need a subscription to put more than 5 recipes in

*2025-09-26, version 3.23*

I can’t believe I have to pay a monthly subscription for having the honour of saving more than 5 recipes. I write these in myself and you want my money. TERRIBLE

### 1/5 — Sneaky practices at work here

*2025-09-21, version 3.23*

Finally when I got used to this app and really enjoyed using it, I’m hit with a pop-up that basically tells me “You have to subscribe to continue using this app” with a bunch of subscription options. The pricing is fairly cheap, but had I of know this was a subscription based app when I first downloaded it, I would’ve never downloaded it in the first place.

I’m so sick of the most simple apps being subscriptions. Everything’s gotta be a subscription.

### 1/5 — It doesn’t work

*2025-08-24, version 3.17*

I could import only a recipe. It doesn’t recognize any of the recipes I stored on my Instagram account. Useless for me unfortunately. I will go back to ReciMe.

### 1/5 — Import function not operational

*2025-06-23, version 3.10*

I downloaded this because the one time fee was nice instead of subscription base, but it can’t import recipes from social media or web browser. Seems broken and if you happen to get it to import it’s the article, the full article and not the recipe. I’d try the free trial before jumping in.

### 1/5 — Paid app disguised as free

*2025-05-04, version 3.10*

As a few other reviews have stated the fact that this is a paid app with a 30-day trial is buried on the app download page. No pop ups in app stating this until the 30-day trial is over and you can no longer use the app without paying. Slimy marketing tactic by the developer which has not been addressed even though they are aware of the issue.

### 1/5 — Disgusted

*2024-07-11*

I am so furious, I have been using this app for about two months. I wouldn’t say I love the app but it met the minimum requirement of allowing my sisters and I to share recipes with each other in a relatively easy and accessible way. All the sudden, as of today, we’re getting a pop up to pay for a subscription to continue to use it. There was no mention of a subscription when we signed up or that we would eventually need one to continue to use the app. We thought, maybe we reached the maximum number of “free” recipes. So we deleted some… NOPE! Now our recipes are deleted AND we can’t add more because it’s requiring a subscription. THANKS A LOT. Maybe warn your users you’re switching to a subscription to continue to use your app. All of us are so furious, we will no longer be using the app and will find a new (and hopefully better) way to share recipes with each other.

**Developer response:** Hello, I'm sorry that you had a frustrating experience. Umami offers a 30-day free trial. After your free trial expires, you need a subscription to continue using the app. This information is included in Umami's App Store page and the website's FAQ. I’m an independent developer and the subscription helps cover server costs. I don’t monetize through ads or by selling user data. Please feel free to email me at jeff@umami.recipes if you have additional questions. - Jeff

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Probably my favorite app on my phone

*2026-09-04, version 3.34*

I’ve had the annual subscription for this recipe app for 2 years now and it’s the only one I don’t look at and ask if I really need to pay it. I love how I can just import recipes from instagram and write up family recipes without much effort. I love how I can SCALE these recipes too (I thought that was only a recipe website thing) to make it easier on me when making bigger batches of something. The meal planning and grocery list features are also phenomenal and so easy to use. This is genuinely such an amazing (and aesthetically pleasing/nice and simple looking) app that I don’t think I’d be able to live without. To the creator of this app: I love you.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-08-30, version 3.34*

Fantastic App. Really easy to use and importing from instagram and others is simple. Worth every penny

### 5/5 — Sharing

*2026-08-17, version 3.34*

I love the sharing aspect with my family and the ease of recipe access.

### 5/5 — User friendly

*2026-08-09, version 3.34*

I love this app. So easy to use. I can add note to the recipe to remind me of something I want to try next time.
I like that I can make my own folders to file my recipes which fits my thought process & not a cookie cutter mold.
Also had great tech support when I thought I’d lost all of my recipes!
Love it!

### 5/5 — Get this app!

*2026-08-07, version 3.34*

This app is wonderful. It does exactly what you want it to do. I did the lifetime membership for $20 and I have built up a full library of recipes that me and family love.

You won’t regret this app.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2026-07-30, version 3.34*

I love this app so much! It has revolutionized the way I grocery shop and cook. It has made it so much easier to make up my list and my grocery visits are more efficient. One thing I wish I had was the ability to use it on my Amazon Echo, as the screen is much bigger than trying to read from my phone while I am prepping & cooking. Good job on the app!

### 5/5 — Excellent recipe app

*2026-07-15, version 3.34*

Really useful recipe app, along with being free and having no ads

### 5/5 — ABSOLUTELY LOVE

*2026-07-10, version 3.34*

This app is a godsend. I have so many recipes I’ve never used saved on Instagram one because it’s annoying to watch the video, too annoying to go to their link, three screenshot the recipe and never return. This app makes all of that seamless, in fact it’s so easy even my 76-year-old mom can use it and I think uses it even more than I do. I purchased the Lifetime subscription and love that you can share with a few friends and family. And customer support is excellent if you lock yourself out of your account. Thank you so much Jeff for creating such an awesome app.

### 5/5 — Favorite cooking app

*2026-07-06, version 3.34*

Does everything I want

### 5/5 — Such a great app!

*2026-07-04, version 3.34*

We have been using this app as a family for a year or so now, and we just love it. Easily search for recipes you’ve saved when you have certain ingredients to use. It’s awesome.
