I now have a place for all the things I have to hold about my three neurodivergent teens and myself. PIP is amazing taking observations and working out my strengths and how I tick. For years I tried to hold all of it in my head: appointments, strategies that worked, sensory triggers, the things a therapist said in passing that mattered six months later. It does not fit in one brain. Understanding Zoe is the first app that actually meets me where I am. Pip is a real conversation, not another form to fill in. I can type or talk, and it just captures what I need it to. The Story feature surfaces patterns across our days that I would never have spotted on my own. The Care Village lets me share the right thing with the right person, a teacher, a therapist, a grandparent, without handing over our whole lives. I use it for myself and for my kids, and both feel held. Really helpful for collaborative care. then today I was in a real moment of need with my child and Pip the AI coach came through for me in a way that saved us from a huge meltdown and inevitable rupture just by helping me manage what I could do in the moment. Much better, neuroaffirming guidance than google searching or your typical AI chat bot. I wish every neurodiverse family could use this. It gives me advice on the moment about how to handle meltdowns, how to unpack emotional and social issues and get ideas about activities to expand our lives. That is on us to make clearer, not on you. To clarify for you and for anyone reading: Understanding Zoe is not $119 upfront. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and there is a monthly option at $14.99 as well as the yearly one. You can cancel anytime during the trial and pay nothing. And it’s only after you registered, typed in your name, answered a bunch of questions, then it tells you to subscribe. Yeah nah I feel berated **Developer response:** Thanks for this, and I'm sorry it felt that way. To clear one thing up first: there's no upfront charge. Understanding Zoe starts with a free 7-day trial, so you can use everything and cancel anytime before it ends without paying a cent. Your underlying point is still fair, though. You shouldn't have to finish the whole setup before learning it's a paid subscription, and we're working on showing that earlier. Thanks for taking the time to tell us. ### 1/5 — Greedy Money Grab Targeting Special Needs Parents and Caregivers *2025-04-02* I was really interested in trying this app as my stepson is severely autistic, and I am looking for better ways to manage his conditions. This app made me create an account, input information about me and my child, then showed me a screen listing 4 short reasons I should subscribe for $10/month, with no way to exit, and no free trial, not even 3 days. A lot of special needs parents are already stretched to the max, and many are low income. I completely understand charging for your app/service, and in this hunt for an app, I have been more than willing to pay a subscription if the app is a good app for my family. But this just comes across as unnecessarily greedy, like to not even offer a free trial? I think it's especially gross when it's an app aimed at "helping" the disabled and their caregivers. Like they don't deal with enough. I'm just going to assume the app is something y'all slapped together in 5 minutes, and that's why you don't want anyone actually using it before you get your hands on their money. Deleted, and left this same review on AppRaven. We built Understanding Zoe to support our own needs with our autistic daughter Zoe and a lot of thought and detail has gone into this app. Understanding Zoe is a comprehensive platform developed over many months with extensive input from families, therapists, and educators. The subscription model reflects the ongoing costs of maintaining secure data, providing regular updates, and offering personalized support features that many families find invaluable. That being said, we are always seeking to improve and your feedback has prompted us to accelerate the review of our onboarding flow. We will be looking at making it easier to navigate and disclosing at the beginning the pricing. I look forward to hearing from you ### 5/5 — The tool I’ve been searching for my whole life *2026-08-19* Honestly, I don’t have words for how amazing this app is. I have struggled my whole life with my mental health and understanding Zoe is like having a social worker, personal assistant, therapist on call 24/7 (obviously not a replacement for actual therapy but a great option for ongoing accountability). This app is helping me pace myself, regulate myself, plan my days, work through problems, and much more. It records useful observations based on what I tell it and can create reports for my treatment team to track my ongoing progress as I often forget about things when it comes to consultations. It can set reminders also. Look there is so much this app offers that I really can’t summarise everything it does in one review, but the free trial is definitely enough for you to see how much it can benefit your life and the subscription cost is more than reasonable for what this app offers. **Developer response:** Thank you, this is such a generous review. Getting advice on documents, school, NDIS, daily behaviour and patterns as well as therapies and general everyday overwhelm. Thank you for recommending us to others on the same journey. ### 5/5 — best thing to track my ND Brain *2026-08-10* This app has been an absolute godsend for me to track my thoughts and events in between sessions for my health professionals and just for me to journal and get things off my chest. Especially as an adult with adhd and ASD with very low working memory, it’s hard to remember everything going on with me day to day. I know the app is in its early stages but one day I would love to upload multiple photos at once with text and voice note large amounts of thoughts without it getting overwhelmed!! I understand, I get overwhelmed too by my own brain. For now I use another ai software and upload out chat into Pip! 11/10 app **Developer response:** Thank you, this is a lovely review. But Understanding Zoe has been such a game changer for me that I couldn’t not leave a review to share how truly awesome it is. I was diagnosed with ASD as an adult, and am currently under the care of a psychologist and an occupational therapist. Understanding Zoe and its helper, Pip, is like having a therapist in my pocket in between appointments (or at stupid o’clock in the morning if I wake up and my brain is whizzing). It is sensational being able to run things past Pip and get an ND perspective on them, I get reminders to take my daily meds, and you can also set it up with a village consisting of support people of your choice. In just 3 days, UZ has changed my life. It’s helped me work out concrete strategies for a deeply distressed nervous system, and provides insight and affirmation I wouldn’t let myself see. This is the only one that doesn't make my daughter sound like a problem to be managed. I jot down what's happening day to day and it quietly pulls out the patterns I'm too tired to notice myself. Pip has talked me down at the end of a rough day more than once. We still have hard days, but I finally feel like I understand why they happen.
