It’s perfect for someone who already knows Spanish to improve their vocabulary, but also it’s fun puzzles and very interesting to learn about the cultural things from across the Spanish speaking world. I’ve learned so much and read articles about things I already knew about but they are still very interesting and informative. It’s helped me find movies in Spanish, books to read, and places to travel! The Sparks (articles) are written well, and can be read or listened to. I take two hours of Spanish tutoring every week, read children/teen books in Spanish, and watch a lot of TV shows in Spanish. Duolingo has been part of my daily routine, but after four years of using it, I really needed something more. Unedo is continually being improved, and customer support is great! You’ll need to have already learned a bit of Spanish to enjoy using this app, and I’m enjoying the challenge very much. The articles on this app are both interesting and just challenging enough to learn a few new words, plus more challenging words are highlighted so you can easily click on them and read the definitions in spanish or english. Really really great app idea!! I also really appreciate they have real writers instead of using AI <3 although I really wish they didn’t use AI for the photos. **Developer response:** Thanks Nicky, this really means a lot to us! The "intermediate slump" is exactly the gap we built Unedo to fill, so it's great to hear it's hitting the mark. On the AI photos: fair point, and worth being transparent about. All the writing, curation, and cultural insight behind every Spark comes from our team of real writers and editors. Where we used AI was on some images, mainly to move fast while we validated that there was real demand for something like Unedo. Now that we're seeing that interest, we're shifting toward working with illustrators and artists. It'll likely be a hybrid for a while, but the direction is clear: supporting human talent (not bot). Highly recommended! ### 5/5 — Best app for learning Spanish *2026-03-13* I never leave app reviews, but I’m genuinely so happy that this app was created and I’m going to tell everyone I know about it. I saw it on an ad, I’m only using the free version and I think it’s honestly very helpful even without subscribing, but I’m absolutely switching my subscription to this app once my duolingo subscription ends. I love that I learn about the culture while learning the language and also learn some more colloquial phrases and terms that you wouldn’t learn on a traditional language app. I read every exercise out loud to practice speaking. My only hope is that there will be a speaking practice option added at some point, along with greater variety of cultures covered…. But I’m obsessed!! Then I realized the art used in-app has been generated by AI. instantly deleted off my phone. Won't consider returning to Unedo til you use assets made by real people instead of generative AI ### 1/5 — Uses AI for images and thumbnails *2025-12-01, version 2.1.1* Don't trust a learning app that uses AI in any form. But after being greeted by AI thumbnails it's clear it's probably too good to be true - another language learning app that's actually just an LLM at worst and another company not willing to put the effort into making their own graphics and who knows what else at best ### 2/5 — AI art is really off-putting *2026-05-14, version 2.2.6* The app seems like something I genuinely want but the AI art is so ugly that it I end up closing the app almost immediately. I’m glad I got the free trial. It’s weird how ai art looks so cheap and gross and how quick this phenomenon happened. Maybe it isn’t even ai but it definitely has that “gross” quality to it that’s hard to describe. A half-assed doodle on ms paint would feel a thousand times better than what they are going with here. ### 2/5 — Flawed *2026-05-13* Excellent little three minute audio essays about interesting topics are presented with precise diction which makes this much easier to understand than other apps I have used. However, to hear each one you must complete two games: one is a silly and useless guessing game based on “wheel of Fortune”; the other requires knowing obscure vocabulary. The nice audio clips appeared daily, but there is no obvious way to go back and review them, and if you do not do the silly games on the day they are offered, there is no apparent way to go back and find these audio clips you have paid for. The audio clips are the only things of value. Finally “Smart Review”, whatever that may be, is forever “coming soon.” **Developer response:** Hola. We like a raw and honest review, it helps us understand better how user really relate to the app. With that said, it sounds like you might not have checked out the REWIND section which is essentially your activity history: all articles you view will be saved there so you can access them anytime. I also want to make sure you scrolled down on the "audio clips", as the text of the audio clips is available with highlights to help you understand the vocab. The text is hidden on smaller screens, and we are in the process of adjusting that. If this resolves your qualms about Unedo, would you consider adjusting your rating? However, the app is limited by narrow perspectives and some editorial decisions that may be questionable. That is not true. They give you free access to the stories for five days and then you have to pay for their subscription to read them. Then the only thing the app can offer you is two small puzzles every day, which is hardly enough to actually practice learning a language. I’m very disappointed because nowhere did it clarify that you couldn’t view the “sparks” after so many days. You know, the main thing anybody probably downloaded the app for? **Developer response:** Olivier here, one of Unedo's founders. Thank you for the honest feedback, and I'm sorry the paywall caught you off guard. If our messaging made it feel like the subscription was unnecessary, that's on us to say more clearly. Quick clarification, because it works a little differently than a five-day timer: Puzzles are free every day, forever. No countdown, no limit. Stories (Sparks): you get a set of free ones to read and keep for good. A lot of other features are accessible without a subscription too. And we send free Spark credits from time to time so free users can enjoy our stories. But you're right that the stories are where we ask you to subscribe, and here's the honest why: we're a tiny, self-funded team publishing original, human-written stories every single day. Passport is what lets us keep doing that with no ads and no investors pulling the app off course. Your point about being upfront is fair, and I'll take it back to the team. If you'd like more time with the stories, reach out from inside the app and we'll sort you out. ### 3/5 — Phenomenal educative app.. quality diminishes inmensely with AI voices *2026-05-31, version 2.2.7* It’s crazy how the immersion this app immediately goes away once I hear the AI voices in the stories, because you can tell how much love they put into everything else. As a result , I can’t sign in. I don’t know if I like the app or not cause I can’t sign in. The word puzzles are fun, the vocab review/flash cards are so handy, learning about different Spanish-speaking communities, *and* listening to those stories from the people who wrote them?! *Aaand* a lot of the vocab is highlighted and you can click and read the definition in Spanish and English. Je recommande ### 5/5 — Nearly perfect—especially if you’re short on time *2026-07-14* I work 60+ hours a week but don’t want to give up on reaching full conversational fluency (and having interesting, culturally-informed things to talk about). I’m not terribly far from that goal, but my learning had reached a plateau. Unedo has reinvigorated my progress, and I can feel the difference in my comfortability woth Spanish. Also, the articles are an awesome length; I can read one quietly on a break or listen while I’m doing chores or read one aloud before bed to practice pronunciation. Cheers and gratitude to the whole development team. After a few weeks of use though, what I notice is that I feel super overwhelmed by the sheer volume of new vocabulary in each article. I love learning new words, that’s not the problem, but the Flashcard and Library features doesn’t provide any context about how and when a word is used. For example, articles use a lot of different versions of “however/although” like sin embargo, pese a, a pesar de, si bien, etc. Since the writing team is from all over the world, I can’t tell which form is common, formal, or region-specific, and it feels paralyzing to not know which one to start using in daily life. The Library and Flash Card features are cool, but since each article is so zoomed-in to its own topic, what my education is missing is a zoomed-out contextual understanding of a word or phrase. Basically I need the SpanishDict App as a companion to this one to get a comprehensive learning experience and that’s a lot. It can become a barrier for me. Lastly — I’m always wondering if the graphics at the top of each article are made by humans or AI. I hope humans, and if so, it would be cool to have their work credited so we can support them outside of Unedo, too. ### 5/5 — Great app, sad to see AI being used. *2026-07-07, version 2.3.2* As a few other reviewers have said, it’s sad to see AI being used for some of the images. This app has huge potential. I just downloaded it today and really love it. If the AI stuff is removed in the future I’d 100% pay for the subscription. App feels way more useful than something like Duolingo. Happy to see the developers replying to reviews and not just denying the AI stuff. I’m fifteen years old, I’m Mexican and Puerto Rican mixed, so naturally, my family speaks Spanish around me. Though, I feel out of the loop as they talk, while I feel behind. I’m a ‘no sabo’ kid, but this app has been restoring my confidence, day by day, in being confident in who I am. I want to thank the creators of this app, and the people who helps design the app, because you guys are angels sent from above. I was so excited to be able to recite what I learned strictly in Spanish, and I understood word for word as I took my time reading what each word meant, and the flash cards helped them stick to me, that I was able to tell my mom about Maria Izquierdo, and all that I learned about her, with full confidence! I’ve only had this app for two days. TWO. I learned more than any language app had ever taught me for three years, and it’s a blessing to be able to connect with my heritage with apps like this, that give plenty for free, for kids like me, or even adults. However, my favorite part is how high quality the daily Sparks (passages/articles/sometimes even interviews) are. If you click on the bios of the authors you will see that they are generally working creative writers and journalists and it really shines through in the quality and creativity of the material. I’ve gotten so many book and film recs from this app to check out and I’ve only been using it a couple of weeks! In an era of “content” it is so refreshing to encounter such high quality, human written work in an environment where the focus wouldn’t necessarily even need to be on the craft.
