But the æsc(ᚫ) rune has a problem *2024-10-07* The app is really great, the library of letters and symbols and so forth is incredible. The ability to create your own keyboards and use them outside the app is awesome; but I ran into a little hitch whilst doing so. I assembled a runic keyboard with great deliberation, and was excited to use it outside of the app. I was aware prior to testing it that I wouldn’t be able to use any of the extended fonts outside the app, it’s a shame, but I can understand how much of a technical challenge it must be to make any of this work in the first place. My problem, however, is with the æsc rune ‘ᚫ’. All the other runes when used outside of the app use the font ‘AppleSymbols’ but æsc appears to use ‘Catrinity’, so that when I use them, it looks like this: ᚧᚢ᛫ᛒᛚᚫᚳ᛫ᚳᚫᛏ. It doesn’t really interfere with anything practically, but I’m sure you can see how it’s an eyesore. I also suspect that with such an extensive library as Unicode Pad’s is, that this is not the only instance of this issue, though I can’t be sure of that. If it’s important, I am on iPhone. Besides this I haven’t encountered any real issues so far. I love the app! Keep up the good work! ### 4/5 — No uppercase *2024-06-01, version 16.0* They new language category is nice I like it but there’s no uppercase letters and it’s only showing lowercase letters and there are some uppercase letters that I couldn’t find at all so please put uppercase letters in there too. ### 5/5 — Fun app! *2024-04-14* This Unicode Keyboard is so cool! When coupled with a font installer such as FondFont, there is simply no equal to the power for using and manipulating fonts. My iPad would be 1/3 as useful without this app. It’s simply that great. Zip around Unicode space and see the world’s languages given room to breathe on the internet. Lovely. And it respects privacy! Thank you, Žiga! Will the help of some friends, I found the necessary code set on Wikipedia. It’s “Canadian Aboriginal Syllabic”. So, note to the developer: you have at least one new set to add for your next release. The non-Latin language characters are useful though. So, this app still has utility for me for 3 / 5 stars. ### 4/5 — Catrinity needs updating *2023-06-17* BEST APP EVER FOR UNICODE!!! But one slight thing needs updating. The 'Catrinity' font has made lots more updates in languages, and private use area. Could this be updated? And i just have one question. Where did you find the suppelmentary private use area pictures? No fonts support them and i am confused. And are you able to add more fonts like Comic sans and Dylaultimatecomputer? Other than that, I use that 24/7! **Developer response:** All bundled fonts will be updated in the next release, including Catriniy. You can add your own fonts to the app, just open them with the app and they will be imported. This way you can add Comic Sans, etc - I’m not sure I can bundle it with the app. ### 4/5 — Essential, few niggles *2023-05-31* I use this so much. I would like the search function to be better though as I often fail to find something when I’m guessing the name. Tried to find the real multiplication sign. Failed several times. Tried to find greek mu- failed so many times again. Bug in search. As the developer does not do a trim() on the input, if there is trailing whitespace by accident then the searches seem to fail. Not always clear why though. Can’t find where to get support from. I would appreciate easier navigation round the code blocks and categories as it’s all rather overwhelming. Finding the first 0…FF - failed altogether. I use IPA a lot and would appreciate greater ease of access locating the block and individual characters there. I can’t see a link for where to get support from while in the app. Still a great app though, never mind all the moans. I would happily pay more money for a ++ version with some work done for a souped up UI and improved usability. ### 5/5 — Thank you for installing Character Unicode Pro. *2023-05-28* First, you need to create a new Glyphs on Character Unicode. ### 5/5 — Useful app *2023-05-24, version 15.1* I have found this app to be very useful on many many occasions. ### 5/5 — Progressively more-useful as it evolves *2023-04-23* Have been using for six or seven years now, ever since I became an iPad user. A professional in a mathematical field, I mostly use it to get mathematical symbols, which I can use in an email, Kindle note, etc. It also gives me easy access to extended characters, with which I populate a text file for a Windows environment. (Windows’ “character-map” application is borderline useless.) I observe at the time of this writing that the application now contains definitions for mathematical symbols. This obviates the need to Google-search when looking for something not top-of-mind. ### 5/5 — Ignore my previous review, I found the problem *2023-03-15* Last time I reviewed, I reported a bug with certain fonts... it turns out that the fonts I was having trouble with were fonts that had already been installed through other apps. So never mind. At any rate, my overall opinion is the same; this is an app I use heavily. It blows other Unicode apps out of the water. Been searching for something like this for a while. What can make it even better is the ability to create custom fonts from scratch WITHIN the App. I will update my review to a 5-star when the current cons are gone... Pros: • Able to create custom keyboards • Wide variety of catalogs • Able to store entire sets of letters, words and phrases (other than single characters) inside the keyboard buttons. Cons: • Drag and drop feature when reorganizing custom keyboard • There is a bug that needs to be fixed in the “Search for more keyboard option“ for example, when I select a keyboard of preference, then deselect, I cannot choose another keyboard again unless I back out of everything then re-enter the option • No Phoenician script that reads right to left. I have an iPhone Pro Max 12 with the 16.3 update. One thing that could be improved is hardware keyboard shortcuts with in the app (for example, it would be helpful if Cmd-F would start a search from anywhere within the app). The keyboard looks great too. Would it be possible to customize the default tab of the keyboard that the normal keys as well? [STILL!!] *2017-06-10* This App has always been really slow to open, & the interface & functionality a little clunky, but it has such a comprehensive character library (combined with the incredibly useful Custom Keyboards) that it was worth every cent, & a lot more. Now however it crashes 100% of the time before opening. This is really unfortunate in a fully Paid-For version, separate to the other Free versions available. [In highlighting the value of this app, note that other Font, Emoticon & Character Apps invariably do not include full libraries, which are massive, or are simply vehicles for adds & disreputable "games"] Could I suggest that loyal & appreciative purchasers of this App email the Developers politely to encourage their attention? Again, note that this is the fully Paid-For version. I feel strongly that Developers owe their customers a duty of service. Some abandon an App after finding a better profit-model, or refuse to update it to the latest iOS because of the time & expense it costs them. But if you pay money for an App, then I believe very strongly that while you don't have the right to expect improvements, you DO have the right to expect that App to keep working & not suddenly die! REVIEW UPDATE @30 May 2017 Still [100%] crashes without opening, even AFTER Apple iOS 10.1.2 Update... For anyone interested, my iDevices include: iPad Pro 9.7 iPad Air, iPad 3 iPhone 7, iPhone 6 ... updated through the last two iOS versions. **Developer response:** That's very odd. It works perfectly in testing. Please try reinstalling the latest version. If it still doesn't work, contact us directly do we can fix this. I just wanted to know if you can convert codes to the icons, for example the code U+O482 would change into the symbol it is. 😭😭 **Developer response:** In character details view one can copy any character in any font as PDF graphics or PNG image. Speaking of which, can you make private use area block attributes, like examples are tengwar, featuring fonts like code2000 and 2001, catrinity, and my requested font nishiki teki. Or Latin extended medieval featuring fonts that support medieval unicode font initiative.
