If this had the ability to work with CarPlay, I’d be all in. ### 1/5 — Ios 17 v1.5.1 of App. Still not fixed R8 *2025-10-02, version 1.5* The app connects to my R8 but I cannot make any changes to the settings. Also, I can’t select advanced. We are running firmware v 134.110.122 with database 1.53 in NZ. Please update and fix your app so I can delete R8 Companion! And where is the laser support that you promised us?!? You have to start BT connection through the app which is confusing. The map is awful to use its always at an angle you cant rotate it and its hard to remove marks you made on accident you basically have to delete everything. App is unrefined. ### 2/5 — Unfinished product *2025-07-08, version 1.3* I recently tried the new Uniden app with my Uniden R8, and while it’s a good start, it feels like an unfinished product. The app is clean and runs smoothly — no crashes or glitches so far. However, it’s extremely basic. The main feature is the speedometer, which is nice to have, but beyond that, there’s not much to work with. The real letdown is the lack of control over the radar detector itself. I tried changing a few settings through the app, but they either didn’t register or just failed completely. There’s no deep customization or meaningful integration — just surface-level stuff. Uniden really needs to improve this app. It has potential, but as of now, it doesn’t add much value to the R8 experience. Hope to see some real updates soon. ### 1/5 — R8w wifi Doesn’t work *2025-04-27* I enter the app. Select wifi. When i finish entering the password, the keyboard won’t drop down so that I can click “connect”. Keyboard stays up even after I hit enter. And it obstructs the ability to click the connect behind it. ### 2/5 — Doesn’t work for me😢 *2025-02-17, version 1.2* So connected the R8 to the app. Can’t change any settings from the app. Have to manually enter the menu on the R8 then use the app. However settings don’t show as changed on the app. Now for my major gripe. The app doesn’t make any sounds when changing settings so I presume it doesn’t make any sound when it picks up a radar signal. One of the big reasons I bought this devise was it has Bluetooth which should give the ability for the app to play sound so I can hear it in my helmet headset. Come on Uniden please sort this app out it has huge potential for motorcyclists. We need the app to make sound! Your sales are sure to increase with motorcyclists. And imagine if you made it water proof. No more zip lock bags?!🤣 ### 1/5 — Embarrassing for Uniden *2025-02-08* I can’t believe that this is the best that Uniden can do. I don’t even know why in the world you would ever even want this ridiculous attempt at making an app. I don’t understand its purpose, unless you hate changing its settings on the device and on a computer. Forces me to pay 10 bux for the R4 companion. I have an r4 and r8. They detect really well (or at least I hope the r4 does, seeing this app has shaken my confidence in the company. Gave it a 2 because I like the look of the interface. After 30+ minutes of struggle it finally decided to do a DB update using the WiFi. Then I tried pairing the device back to the app after the update and now it won’t pair lol. App is current ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — R8 update on WIFI? *2026-02-03* Best Radar I’ll ever own, all I can say is that Uniden Detector saved me from getting into trouble way too many times. ### 5/5 — Great companion app *2026-01-21* App allows you to easily customize your detector (I’m using the R8). It also allows you to run the detector “dark”, with the display off, for stealth as all display elements are replicated in the app (I look at my phone instead of the detector to see the alerts). Fantastic shipping. Did the install with my existing power hook up and everything everything went flawlessly. Connecting from the app to the right out detector was super simple with the instructions provided. Check to make sure it was on the latest firmware, which was super easy. Connected it to Wi-Fi, which took 15 seconds. Just make sure when you’re connecting to Wi-Fi you join the Wi-Fi on your phone that you want the radar detector to join so it easily picks out the SSID. Overall user experience has been great. Looking forward to using my new Uniden. ### 4/5 — Need single frequency low strength filter *2026-06-06, version 1.7* My 2026 CT5 constantly falses at Ka 35.100 one bar strength , probably from the entertainment system. Lowering Ka sensitivity to 80% doesn’t help.
