Edit: Saving presets work but can't assign any of the controllers to a parameter because you can't long press any parameter dial. I am on iOS 16.3.1. I'd love to explore the capabilities more, but at the moment it's just too slow to use. ### 4/5 — Very nice synth *2017-05-05* This is a very nice synth, with lots of rich, interesting and occasionally surprising/delightful sounds. There are some definite UI problems with navigation of presets (how did this get past QC?), hence 4 stars. For anyone wondering, the iPhone version seems to work perfectly well on an iPad, albeit with a less optimised UI (although the app has the same navigation issues evident on iPhone). ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Broken *2019-03-07, version 1.5.3* Can’t save new presets. ### 1/5 — Sneaky way to sabotage users *2018-05-08* Just ‘upgraded’ only to find I am working with a postage stamp under AUM. At first I thought it had to be a bug, right? Being impossible to use without a microscope. Then I realised what had happened. I’d bought the iPhone version for use on the iPad. Technically, it still works. But no way will I believe that the developers didn’t know full well what would happen to iPad users with this version. It is sabotage. Deleted. Still as laggy as on my iPad Pro. My older iPad Air 1 is the only device that i own on which this synth runs smooth. Go figure... the more powerful and newer the device the more laggy this app runs. It really has held me back using this app that often as my other synths. I can't recommend this app for anyone that has a newer iPhone or iPad. ### 1/5 — Really laggy visually. *2017-11-25* I'm running IPhone 7plus 256gb and this synth is super unresponsive and slow. Big disappointment. I have all of Sugar Bytes plugins. I really like them and they sound and run great. This is the first bad one I've got. I have Unique for my MacBook and use it with Ableton Live 9 with no issues ever. This is a different UI than the original. Hopefully this just needs some easy work by them to be as good as the rest. Fingers crossed!!! Update: As of 11-25-17 this synth is still unusable on my 256gb iPhone 7 Plus. It is a lot better now, but still completely unusable. The lag issues are just insane. No idea why this hasn’t been fixed!!!! I love Sugar Bytes stuff, in fact I just bought a bunch more of their newest stuff for my studio on Black Friday because it’s fantastic on my Mac. So, come on Sugar Bytes get your act together on this port to iPhone!!! ### 1/5 — Bug presets *2017-11-25* Gros bug, le son se fige quand on change de preset dans le menu déroulant (iOS 11, iPhone se) Merci de corriger le problème 😉 ### 2/5 — nice sounds, ... *2020-11-25* ... innovative approach. supports AU, which makes this app very versatile. unfortunately, the keys do not react properly which renders them unplayable, same as in ipad version. support does not seem to respond. ### 2/5 — iPhone X issues *2018-10-20* I really want to love this synth. It sounds great, looks gorgeous. But it’s barely usable on an iPhone X. The iPhone’s slide bar thing gets in the way, and the whole synth is shifted in a bizarre way on the screen. Most other synths handle the iPhone X just fine. Also a bummer that they don’t have a dedicated iPad version. That may be true if you’re into endless tweaking for sound design. Been there, done that. Nowadays I just want to make songs without spending a lot of time tweaking. So I choose a preset that sounds good to me, tweak it a little and the next thing I know inspiration strikes. That’s Unique for me. No issues with performance in NS2 either. Looks great in AUM and BeatMaker 3 now! ### 5/5 — Incredible *2018-01-09* Now most of the faults have been ironed out, this synth is superb. But, it eats batteries for breakfast, dinner and tea. Also, phone gets warm when using it. If these issues were addressed, it would be king of synths. Thank you for the Christmas gift Sugar Bytes! ### 5/5 — Durchaus ein grandioser Synth! *2017-11-20* Das Niveau der Sounds ist sehr erfreulich - und kann mit Hardware mithalten. Die GUI ist gut bedienbar, übersichtlich, ja geradezu anregend. Dennoch kann man hier in die Tiefe des Sounddesigns eintauchen und modulieren, bis der Arzt kommt! Schon zum regulären Preis ein Schnäppchen (läuft übrigens problemlos auf einem iPad), zum Cybermonday-deal (1,09 Euro) muss man hier Kaufalarm setzen! Wirklich, ein nettes Teil mit jeder Menge Potential. Der Filtersound ist großartig, wer sich für Vowelfilter interessiert, findet sehr vieles zum glücklichwerden. Die Bandbreite an Sounds ist prima. Das ist einfach ein guter Synth. Kleinere Problemchen in der GUI u.ä. werden die Entwickler sicherlich in Angriff nehmen. Hat man Attackwerte von 0, dann kommt es bei manchen Sounds (ca. 10 Prozent) gelegentlich zu Knacksern am Anfang. Aber erstens, das kommt selten vor, zweitens, nur bei bestimmten Sounds, und drittens, über Anpassung des Attack hat man das wieder sofort in Griff. Kurzum: Das Ding macht viel Spaß! ### 5/5 — Outstanding synth, needs slight tweaking *2017-05-08* I love unique. Making great sounds with little effort is the best trait of Unique. The interface is intuitive and makes producing with Unique a joy. The problem is it's laggy, a little laggy on my iPhone 6 Plus and even more laggy on my 7 plus. Unique is usable on the 6 plus but on my 7 plus, I'll have to wait for an update to use it normally.
