## What is United States Coast Guard?

The official U.S. Coast Guard app gives you 24/7 access to the most commonly requested information and resources for the recreational boating public. http://www.uscg.mil/mobile

With the U.S. Coast Guard app, you can:
- Identify the boating safety laws, requirements and resources available in your home state, the state where you keep your vessel or the state where you are planning to operate.
- Request a vessel safety check from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
- Determine what safety equipment you are required to carry by law based on the size and type of vessel you are operating. The app also recommends additional safety equipment you might want to consider.
- File a float plan with up to three friends, loved ones or other responsible parties. While you cannot file a float plan directly with the Coast Guard, the app helps you develop a float plan that will allow your responsible party to provide search and rescue coordinators with important information they can use to facilitate a missing or overdue boater case.
- Review the most commonly sought out navigational “rules of the road.”
- Access weather information from the closest NOAA buoy to your current location.
- Report a navigational hazard to the Coast Guard – this could be a buoy or marker out of place, a sunken vessel or some other obstacle obstructing safe passage of a Federal waterway.
- Report pollution to the Coast Guard – from a minor oil sheen at the dock to a major pollution event, you can help protect our marine environment.
- Report suspicious activity to the Coast Guard – if you see something, say something! We all have a shared responsibility for homeland security.
While the U.S. Coast Guard app will help you better prepare for your time on the water and may help you contact the Coast Guard in an emergency, it is not a replacement for a VHF-FM marine radio, EPIRB, safe boating classes and common sense. Learn more about being a responsible boater athttp://www.uscgboating.org/.
The U.S. Coast Guard app is a self-contained mobile application that resides solely on your mobile device. Information about yourself, your vessel and your current or past locations is only shared with the Coast Guard when you choose to do so.

### 1/5 — Won’t work

*2026-06-26, version 1.1.3*

Can’t get anything to work on my iPhone. App may be outdated

### 1/5 — App crashes

*2026-04-20, version 1.1.3*

This app continues to crash. I hope the creators and developers can take another look at it. When my screen opens up, it goes to profile that I cannot edit and will not let me go to the home screen.

### 1/5 — Very Disappointed

*2025-07-01, version 1.1.3*

Doesn’t work. Literally every link does not work. Will not help in the case of emergency, let alone in the case of planning a safe trip out to sea. Terrible. Expected much better from the USCG.

### 1/5 — Outdated. Doesn’t work. Incompatible with latest iOS?

*2025-05-03, version 1.1.3*

I just installed this after doing an online safety at sea course. I was excited to have the coast guard directly on my phone and be able to make float plans. However, the app buttons don’t work. Cannot make a profile, and there are no functions that can be used it seems unless you login. I noticed the last update was 6 years ago. It must be seriously outdated, probably the server is not being maintained or something like that. Very unreliable from a public service that promotes being reliable and dependable? I’m am negatively amazed about how bad this app is.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t seems to work at all

*2025-01-16, version 1.1.3*

I downloaded the app tried to enter information but nothing will open. I thought perhaps you had to “Agree” before you could enter. So I read thought all the information to the bottom but still could get the toggle switch to move. I deleted the app and tried reinstalling it to no avail. So I deleted it. Sad

### 1/5 — It had great potential but…

*2024-08-30, version 1.1.3*

I eventually found that I could neither edit or remove my boats once they were entered. This is now very problematic because they have been sold and new ones purchased. All my the details for my boats is outdated/inaccurate The SAVE button on the bottom of the screen cannot be reached and used. I finally just deleted the app.

### 5/5 — Great APP and a MUST have for all boaters

*2022-08-10, version 1.1.3*

Great App. Totally encompassing! Report a missing or AID outage, file a float plan, weather, Anonymous reporting of a crime, request a safety check of your vessel, look up NAV rules or rules of the road, Anonymous reporting of a pollution spill or Bolshevik pumping, NOAA buoy locations! This app is freaking awesome and will help boater immensely! Thank You Coast Guard

### 2/5 — Good info but amateurish coding

*2022-03-29, version 1.1.3*

I really want to like this app. It has good information and could potentially be a literal lifesaver. But it looks like it was also written by Coasties instead of professional coders.

When you save a vessel profile, there is no way to return to the home page. There are many other odd things about this app that limit its functionality and usefulness.

Could be very useful and a needed safety app, but not in its present state.

### 4/5 — Please fix vessel edit!

*2021-12-27, version 1.1.3*

I love being able to file a float plan with the USCG, but I need to update the photo of my vessel as the color has changed. This is too important in an emergency!

### 1/5 — App Crash

*2021-11-16, version 1.1.3*

App crashes anytime you want to look at the NOAA buoys. App needs to be updated with all bugs that other users have previously mentioned, too.
