### 2/5 — Good info but amateurish coding

*2022-03-29, version 1.1.3*

I really want to like this app. It has good information and could potentially be a literal lifesaver. But it looks like it was also written by Coasties instead of professional coders.

When you save a vessel profile, there is no way to return to the home page. There are many other odd things about this app that limit its functionality and usefulness.

Could be very useful and a needed safety app, but not in its present state.

### 4/5 — Please fix vessel edit!

*2021-12-27, version 1.1.3*

I love being able to file a float plan with the USCG, but I need to update the photo of my vessel as the color has changed. This is too important in an emergency!

### 3/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2021-03-13, version 1.1.3*

The concept is great, but the application crashes a lot. Any time location services are used, like in the buoy selection, it just crashes.

I will see how the float plan works this summer

### 2/5 — Long overdue for an update

*2021-02-05, version 1.1.3*

Long overdue for an update

### 3/5 — NOAA buoys part not working.

*2021-01-10, version 1.1.3*

It is a great tool but the NOAA buoys part stopped working about a month ago. As a professional boat delivery Captain I rely on that real time information to evaluate the reliability of other weather forecasts.

### 1/5 — A For Effort

*2019-08-21, version 1.1.3*

Very neat idea but designed poorly. Lots of bugs, several parts don’t work and already looks outdated. The NOAA beacon finder is about the only useful piece. Needs updating.

### 3/5 — Could be a great app if the bugs are fixed

*2019-06-17, version 1.1.3*

Once you save your vessel information, if you need to edit it, the Emergency Assistance button covers the save button. You can’t get to Save to update your profile. The navigation needs to be fixed. But good features if they can fix the small issues.

### 1/5 — Can’t send float plan

*2019-05-29, version 1.1.3*

A snag with the emails makes sending a float plan impossible. It says to resolve the issue by going to “settings -> mail, contacts calendar” but there is no such option under settings.

### 4/5 — Good when it works correctly.

*2019-05-26, version 1.1.3*

This app is great when it works correctly. By this I mean the Emergency button is in the way when attempting to click save for your vessels profile. I like the float plans and liked the simple interface to get a safety inspection. However that stopped functioning too. I really hope they get these two major bugs fixed soon. I know it’s a memorial app and probably not getting paid to work on but please get the vessel save button bug fixed. It’s indispensable function to have at my finger tips.

### 4/5 — Boating Safety Essential

*2018-12-18, version 1.1.3*

I appreciate having my vessel info stored for emergency reporting. EPRIB info is missing, however, hence 4 stars.

### 1/5 — Profile has no button to save profile

*2018-10-07, version 1.1.2*

App asks you to enter personal information, but does not have a way to store that information so you always get “no profile saved”

I will look for another way to share float plans

### 2/5 — Cannot save profile

*2018-10-01, version 1.1.2*

Could save a vessel, but no save button for the profile.

### 3/5 — Why no scanner when it’s so needed

*2018-08-17, version 1.1.1*

Hello is there any way you could add a coast guard scanner

### 1/5 — Unable to save vessel information

*2017-12-14, version 1.1.1*

I entered my vessel information but cannot save because the virtual number key pad covers up the save button at the bottom of the screen. Closing and reopening the app has not solved the problem. This bug needs to be fixed ASAP.

### 2/5 — Not Voice Over friendly

*2017-11-29, version 1.1.1*

This app would be nice if it was coded correctly to work with Voice Over.

### 2/5 — No Locations

*2017-10-24, version 1.1.1*

Without locations on what good is this app. I cannot find how to turn them on.

### 2/5 — Not all that helpful

*2017-07-17, version 1.1.1*

The app should be able to tell you what is required. Instead it pushes you off to CFR's and state websites. There should be a simple way for boaters to know what is legally necessary. Can't figure that out from this app. Easier to use the web and that takes research.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Won’t work

*2026-06-26, version 1.1.3*

Can’t get anything to work on my iPhone. App may be outdated

### 1/5 — App crashes

*2026-04-20, version 1.1.3*

This app continues to crash. I hope the creators and developers can take another look at it. When my screen opens up, it goes to profile that I cannot edit and will not let me go to the home screen.

### 1/5 — Very Disappointed

*2025-07-01, version 1.1.3*

Doesn’t work. Literally every link does not work. Will not help in the case of emergency, let alone in the case of planning a safe trip out to sea. Terrible. Expected much better from the USCG.

### 1/5 — Outdated. Doesn’t work. Incompatible with latest iOS?

*2025-05-03, version 1.1.3*

I just installed this after doing an online safety at sea course. I was excited to have the coast guard directly on my phone and be able to make float plans. However, the app buttons don’t work. Cannot make a profile, and there are no functions that can be used it seems unless you login. I noticed the last update was 6 years ago. It must be seriously outdated, probably the server is not being maintained or something like that. Very unreliable from a public service that promotes being reliable and dependable? I’m am negatively amazed about how bad this app is.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t seems to work at all

*2025-01-16, version 1.1.3*

I downloaded the app tried to enter information but nothing will open. I thought perhaps you had to “Agree” before you could enter. So I read thought all the information to the bottom but still could get the toggle switch to move. I deleted the app and tried reinstalling it to no avail. So I deleted it. Sad

### 1/5 — It had great potential but…

*2024-08-30, version 1.1.3*

I eventually found that I could neither edit or remove my boats once they were entered. This is now very problematic because they have been sold and new ones purchased. All my the details for my boats is outdated/inaccurate The SAVE button on the bottom of the screen cannot be reached and used. I finally just deleted the app.

### 1/5 — App Crash

*2021-11-16, version 1.1.3*

App crashes anytime you want to look at the NOAA buoys. App needs to be updated with all bugs that other users have previously mentioned, too.

### 1/5 — Cannot send float plan

*2021-06-18, version 1.1.3*

No way to use at this time. Error message gives poor instructions. Finally taking a trip that warranted a formal plan and I can’t use the app Ive recommended to many others. Disappointed to say the least.

### 1/5 — It had great potential

*2021-03-28*

I found that I could neither edit or remove my boats once they were entered. This is now very problematic because they have been sold and new ones purchased. The SAVE button the bottom of the screen cannot be reached and used. I finally just deleted the app.

### 1/5 — It’s crashing on NOAA Buoys.

*2021-03-02, version 1.1.3*

Every time I press NOAA Buoys the app shuts down.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great APP and a MUST have for all boaters

*2022-08-10, version 1.1.3*

Great App. Totally encompassing! Report a missing or AID outage, file a float plan, weather, Anonymous reporting of a crime, request a safety check of your vessel, look up NAV rules or rules of the road, Anonymous reporting of a pollution spill or Bolshevik pumping, NOAA buoy locations! This app is freaking awesome and will help boater immensely! Thank You Coast Guard

### 5/5 — Great App

*2021-08-19, version 1.1.3*

I especially like the Vessel Safety Check checklist. It helps refresh my mind on important equipment especially if I have not been on the water in a while

### 5/5 — Helping the public

*2018-10-09, version 1.1.2*

This is a fast way to make sure you are safe while at sea and to protect you and the environment for example you can request emergency assistance or report something. This app is great and so is the US Coast Guard I feel like everyone for sails a lot should have this app.

### 5/5 — Great app! Just add tides and marine wx please!

*2016-06-09, version 1.1.1*

Great app! I tell boaters to download it all the time. Has almost everything you need. Just add tides and NWS marine wx along the already-present NOAA buoys please!

### 5/5 — EPRIB REGISTRATION

*2015-09-04, version 1.0.1*

Great App!! As a CC Watchstander I wish you would add an icon on how to register/reregister and EPIRB.

### 5/5 — Only boating app endorsed by such

*2015-08-22, version 1.0.1*

Dan....it's real. I work at USCG Sector St. Pete, fl where this app was developed. 2 years in the making and tested by one the busiest search and rescue areas in the entire Coast Guard. The Comdt approved this app and you can call me anytime and speak with our command center who was the test bed.

### 5/5 — EXCELLENT!!!

*2015-06-02, version 1.0.1*

A must have app for any boater! File a float plan. Check up on the Rules of the Road. Call for help. Review safety equipment. You name it, this app does it.

### 5/5 — Wonderful Resource

*2015-05-22, version 1.0.0*

This is a comprehensive, easy to use app and should be with every recreational boater on the water. Not only is it a treasure trove of useful info, that red "Request Assistance" button is a must-have. Things can change fast on the water, and having a call for help at your fingertips is a no-brainer. I'm a fan of privacy, but I entered my Profile and vessel description--also a no-brainer. Hoping I never need the red button, but glad to have it. Thank you USCG.

### 5/5 — Long overdue but a great tool nonetheless

*2015-05-21, version 1.0.0*

Overall a great start to a "one stop shop" for recreational boating safety. The app has a few bugs when entering data where the keyboard swaps between numeric and letters. The NOAA buoy interface is quick and responsive. I used to draft up my own float plans on my computer but this app handles the task easier. I like how you can save your vessel details within the user profile.

It'll be interesting to see if there are false emergency reports if a child plays with the phone and accidentally calls for help. Maybe incorporate a password that has to be entered first before the call goes through. Otherwise great job!

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2015-05-18, version 1.0.0*

Perfect app for my boating needs!
