## What is Universal TV Remote?

Lost the remote again? Your iPhone is now the remote.

A Decent Remote turns your phone into a fast, reliable remote control for your smart TV, streaming box or stick. Connect over Wi-Fi in seconds - no cables, no account, no setup headaches.

ONE APP FOR EVERY SCREEN
- Works with most smart TVs and streaming devices
- Add all your TVs and streaming boxes and switch between them with a tap
- Smart TVs, boxes and sticks are all supported

EVERYTHING A REMOTE DOES - AND MORE
- Full control: directional pad, swipe touchpad, volume, playback and power
- Launch your streaming apps in one tap
- Type with your phone keyboard instead of pecking letters with a D-pad
- Power on your TV over Wi-Fi

SET UP IN SECONDS
Put your phone on the same Wi-Fi network as your TV, open the app, and it finds your TV automatically.

A NOTE FROM KLAUS, THE DEVELOPER
1. No ads. I don't like ads interrupting you, so there are none in the app.
2. Try it first. The remote works free for your first 50 button presses - no account, no card.
3. After that, Premium keeps it unlocked. A year costs less than half of paying month by month.
4. Some remote apps charge more per week than this one costs per month.
5. Were you already using the app before Premium existed? You keep everything free, forever - my thank-you for being here early.
6. If you subscribe, thank you. Send me feedback from inside the app anytime and I'll keep improving it.

Compatibility depends on your TV model and network. Your TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. A Decent Remote is not affiliated with or endorsed by any TV manufacturer. All product names and brands are the property of their respective owners.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3.22 — 2026-10-19

Finds and pairs more TVs:
- Finds more TVs on your network, including ones that are slow to answer, and searches again by itself when you're back on Wi-Fi.
- If your TV takes the pairing code off the screen too soon, the app asks for a new code by itself.
- Fewer false messages saying your TV blocked the app, and "Retry" no longer cancels a request that is still on the TV screen.
- Streaming players set to limited control by mobile apps now pair right away and can open apps; the remote shows how to turn on full control.
- Some TVs and boxes that refused to connect now get the full remote instead of volume only, and waking a TV from standby works on more TVs.

### 2.3.21 — 2026-10-13

Easier pairing and more reliable buttons:
- Simpler setup: "Turn on your TV" and "Same Wi-Fi" are now one page, and the extra Wi-Fi questions are gone.
- Your iPhone stays awake while you pair, and if you leave the app while the TV asks for permission, the app tries again when you come back.
- More TVs can be paired, including older models; a TV in standby is woken up, and your TV reconnects by itself after a dropped connection.

### 2.3.16 — 2026-10-02

Smoother pairing and a faster remote:
- Sort your app shortcuts: press and hold an app at the top of the remote, then drag it where you want it.
- If the app can't work with your TV yet, leave your email and we'll write once it does.
- Samsung: pairing no longer stops after you select Allow on the TV. The same fix helps Roku, Sony and Toshiba TVs.
- Hisense VIDAA: if your TV shows a code, the app now asks you for it instead of carrying on without it.
- The remote connects faster, and some Hisense TVs no longer get stuck connecting.
- Switching the TV on from the app: the app again saves what it needs while the TV is on, so Power can switch it on later.
- Android and Google TV: if switching the TV on fails, you can add its MAC address right away.
- After pairing, the app takes you straight to the remote. You can rename your TV later.
- The Local Network permission now explains what it is for.
- Fixed a problem that could keep the app from opening properly when iOS started it while your iPhone was locked.
- Fixed a crash when tapping Re-pair after leaving the remote.
Thank you for your feedback. Keep it coming via Send feedback in the app!

### 2.3.15 — 2026-09-29

Easier pairing for more TVs:
- Roku: if your Roku blocks remote-control apps, the app shows which setting to change and continues by itself once the Roku allows it.
- Samsung: if the Allow request on the TV runs out of time, the app asks again by itself, and the instructions are now in your language.
- Samsung and Sony TVs now show the app as "A Decent Remote" when you pair them.
- LG: an LG TV with phone control switched off now shows up, together with the setting to turn on.
- LG: the remote now waits for a TV that is still waking up, instead of giving up after a few seconds.
- LG: pressing Power on a TV in standby now switches it on, and after waking the TV the app opens the remote only once the TV is ready.
- Hisense VIDAA TVs that don't ask for a code now pair without one.
- Android and Google TV: the app now keeps the TV's network address when you pair it again, so turning the TV on from the app keeps working.
- Android TVs and boxes controlled over ADB: connecting no longer gets stuck when the app still had an older connection open.
- Apple TV: every app installed on your Apple TV can now be opened from the app, including Apple Music.
- Older Philips TVs: the Play button now works.
- Not sure about the Wi-Fi questions? Tap "Search anyway" to look for your TV.
- Finds more TVs that answer from a second network address.
- Adding a TV by IP address now tells you when the last number is missing.
- One spin of the volume wheel now counts as a single press.
Thank you for your feedback. Keep it coming via Send feedback in the app!

### 2.3.14 — 2026-09-26

Your TV, now on the lock screen:
- New: pause, play and mute from the lock screen without unlocking your phone (iOS 17 or later). Open your remote, then lock your phone. Turn it off anytime in Settings.
- Swipe and keep your finger down to keep scrolling through long menus.
- More reliable pairing for Android and Fire TV devices using ADB: cancelled attempts no longer interfere with retries, and translated help guides you if no approval message appears on the TV.
- The screen stays awake while a remote is open and dims after 10 seconds without a touch. A touch brightens it and still controls your TV. Turn off "Keep screen awake" or "Dim when idle" in Settings.
- Text you type on Apple TV now reaches the TV, and iPhones, iPads and Macs no longer show up as possible TVs.
- An Apple TV that has restarted now reconnects without pairing it again.
- Better help when no TV is found, including how to get a TV online without its remote. After you turn on Local Network in Settings, the app searches again by itself.
Lock screen controls and swipe-and-hold both came from your suggestions. Thank you, and keep them coming via Send feedback in the app!
