### 5/5 — Telegram

*2025-12-17*

Can you please add reading public Telegram channels?

### 2/5 — Gut und schlecht

*2025-12-05, version 4.6.8*

Was man anklickt ist dabei egal. Er erscheint immer wieder, jeden Tag aufs neue.

### 4/5 — RSS Feed reading made easy

*2025-12-03*

Down 1 star from my first review from 3 years ago. Still the best RSS Feed Reader IMO. But it could really do with article filters based on keywords - in titles if nowhere else. Every year I get at least 2 weeks of almost nothing but “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” sales pitches.

### 4/5 — The Bear of RSS readers!

*2025-11-25, version 4.6.6*

The Bear Note app is known for its wonderful UX, and Unread meets that definition for me.

### 5/5 — Minimalistic yet elegant

*2025-10-14*

Unread is really fantastic for its use case. The UI is very minimal, clean which is easy on the eyes while reading articles. It supports login with a few reputed RSS apps which is an advantage. I would love to have a notification feauture too.

### 5/5 — Website Accounts feature: game changer

*2025-10-05*

I just came back to Unread from a couple of years with Reeder Classic because of the promise of Website Accounts. I subscribe to The Economist which only shows partial content in its RSS feed, forcing you to click through to the website in Safari. Now Unread can save your login and extract the full text of the target page, meaning I can read continuously in a single app. Very polished and convenient, well done dev!

### 4/5 — Please update custom app icons to match dark mode

*2025-09-15*

Only the main app icon adapts, but I dislike the red badge looking icon and I‘d like the theme color to match the icon.

Could maybe at the least the alternative icons with a dark background match the dark mode icon background? That slight gray tone difference is driving me insane on my main Home Screen.

In general I really love the app.

### 4/5 — Miniflux Support

*2025-09-06, version 4.5.2*

I hope to support miniflux instances, although the fever api can indirectly support miniflux, but fever does not support slide read, and also in the phasing out, the official are not recommended.

### 4/5 — Good replacement for Reeder

*2025-08-30, version 4.5.2*

Reeder Classic has started having issues with Newsblur, but this RSS reader is SOLID. Only thing I’d like is the ability to remap keyboard shortcuts.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2025-08-17, version 4.5.1*

Great UI, easy to use, very responsive. Highly recommend for RSS users.

### 4/5 — Adding A Subscription

*2025-08-03*

So far, I'm enjoying it and understand all of the rave reviews.

However, adding a Subscription became such a cumbersome task it almost made me want to remove the app from my compter all together.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, and I'll own it, but is the only way to add a new subscription in the MacOS app by clicking on "File" and "New Subscription" or command N? Why isn't there a way to do it in the app itself?

**Developer response:** Thank you for using Unread and leaving a review.

It is not shown by default, but you can add a New Subscription button to the toolbar by choosing Customize Toolbar from the View menu. Perhaps it should be in the toolbar by default; I will consider this.

There is also the Subscribe in Unread share extension that lets you subscribe to a website's feeds while visiting that website in Safari or any other web browser:

### 5/5 — Simply the best

*2025-07-16*

I have tried just about every RSS reader for Mac, iPad and iPhone. Unread is far and away my favorite. The design helps me focus on the content, not the interface. The article actions allow me to save posts for later with a double tap of my finger. And the latest update now allows full articles to display from my New York Times subscription. Outstanding app by a terrific developer.

### 3/5 — Doesn’t remember place

*2025-05-29, version 4.4.3*

I’ll leave an article half read then come back later, and it’s lost my place. (It’s been like this for months, not a recent bug.)

Footnotes (tapping …) show up in a white background even though I’m in dark mode, resulting in the dark bedroom being blasted with light as my partner sleeps.

### 5/5 — Fix social media habits with RSS

*2025-05-15, version 4.4.2*

Amazing tool especially for those of us trying to avoid corporate websites and timeline algorithms

### 2/5 — Subscription for basic features

*2025-05-02, version 4.4.2*

30 dollars a year for basic features like changing the icon and article actions. And yet I can’t do something basic with the text like change the font. No thank you.

### 4/5 — Disappointing different to the desktop app

*2025-04-01*

Generous amount of free subscriptions before premium and a simple easy to use layout. Just disappointed this is so different in design to the Mac app that it feels like a different product altogether. No drop downs for each tagged section and mark as read acts differently, very inconsistent.

**Developer response:** Thank you for using Unread and for writing a review.

Unread for iPhone and iPad long predates Unread for Mac. The iPhone/iPad app was originally released over 10 years ago. I just released the first version for Mac within the past year. I tried to make the Mac version as much like the iPhone/iPad app as makes sense, but I also did not want the Mac app to feel like just a port of an iPhone app. Unread on iPhone and iPad is very gesture-based, and I do not think a gesture-based interface would be good on Mac.

There are some ways in which the Mac app is ahead of the iPhone/iPad app. Incorporating those improvements into the iPhone/iPad app is a high priority.

When you say “Mark All Read” works differently, I assume you are referring to the fact that on the iPhone and iPad Unread brings you to the parent view after marking all articles read. Since there is no concept of a parent view in the Mac version, I think this is an area where the divergence makes sense. If I misunderstand, please let me know.

I do not know what you mean when you say there are no “drop downs for each tagged section”. If you could elaborate that would help me.

Feel free to contact me directly at support@goldenhillsoftware.com anytime.

Thank you again.

### 5/5 — Superior RSS reader now on all platforms

*2025-03-31, version 4.4.1*

Unread has an elegant and effective user interface that is consistent between macOS and iOS/iPadOS. For those of us who use both macOS and iOS/iPadOS, it’s the ideal cross-platform solution to following RSS feeds. The developer is responsive and open to suggestions.

### 3/5 — Where are settings?

*2025-03-09, version 4.4*

I’m not seeing any of the menu options shown in the description. I cannot change color theme nor am I finding how to save to something like Instapaper. What am I overlooking? Where is the settings menu hiding in this minimalist app?

### 5/5 — Love It

*2025-02-16*

I recently switched to unread from reeder, app is really a killer. kidos to the team of unread.

I would like to see ability to add tags for saved article in unread and also ability to add tags to article action(eg adding tag to an item when added to raindrop)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Needs Simplifying

*2025-11-08, version 4.6.5*

Difficult to Figure Out Setup

### 1/5 — Headline grösser

*2025-01-17*

**Developer response:** You can adjust the text sizes in the article list and in the article view under the Font Sizes tab of the Settings screen. But there is no way to set sizes of just headlines without affecting body font sizes.

### 1/5 — Information density sorely lacking.

*2023-11-24, version 3.5.3*

The layout of the app is hardcoded to font size. If the smallest font size is selected, information density does not change rather the amount of whitespace in the app increases. Which is a horrible design decision. One which apparently will not be fixed as it has remained consistent since the app was acquired by the current developer. This may seem like a small complaint but in the age where 11"+ iPads exist, it's simply ludicrous.

### 1/5 — Clunky and poorly thought out

*2023-02-03, version 3.3.1*

- Does not show all articles
- No navigation buttons, and the “swipe” does not work most of the time; there’s a reason people put in navigation buttons
- There should be no reason to make an account. If’s literally just news articles why do I have to make an account to view the news???

Overall a very miserable 5 minutes. Uninstalling and not reinstalling :(

### 1/5 — Komme mit dem Aufbau nicht klar

*2023-01-25*

### 1/5 — Suscripción no, gracias

*2021-05-15, version 2.5.2*

### 1/5 — Existing users forced to pay again via subscription

*2021-04-02, version 2.5.2*

I had previously paid for the app but now a subscription is required to update to the new version. Price is ridiculous for this type of app.

### 1/5 — Bad commercial policy

*2021-01-08*

My good, is insane to pay 80 reais per year for a RSS reader.

### 1/5 — Why is this so highly rated?

*2020-09-23, version 2.3*

Unintuitive UI. I open the app, and it goes to the settings page where I must select a pre-existing news reader account, then a category...?
Why not just go to your feed directly? Plus no OPML support. Even Feedly supports that.

This is not a simple feed reader. It’s yet another “bright idea” that fails in it’s most basic function in favor of cramming in “features” nobody asked for.

Guys, we figured out RSS readers a long long time ago. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

### 1/5 — When did this start costing $20 a year to use

*2020-08-05*

Useless app that stops working unless you pay $20 a year. I’d pay a reasonable one time fee, but there are too many free alternatives. Look elsewhere.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-11*

Best RSS Reader I have found so far. Only gripe, a very trivial one at that, is I can’t seem to find how to change the font both in the article and outside. Otherwise, this is amazing.

### 5/5 — A perfect RSS reader for me

*2026-06-03*

I landed on Unread after trying a number of RSS readers out there. There are lot of features that are provided - some more that I hope will come (font customization) - such as sync options, shortcuts/gestures. Most importantly, the fast feed updates, icloud syncs work in favour of this app. I also have been able to get responses from the dev for problems and on suggestions too. look forward to a long relationship with unread. Finally I am very happy that the app has regional pricing parity which makes it affordable though it (unfortunately) is a subscription mode.

### 5/5 — Application agréable, fluide et design !

*2026-05-18*

Utilisée depuis plusieurs mois, application agréable, fluide et design. Les thèmes sont magnifiques. La hot line est sympa et réactive.

### 5/5 — great app, lovely developer

*2026-04-26, version 4.8.2*

after years of being on Reeder I somehow discovered this app that solved a lot of the little needs I had and some that I didn’t realise such as full article loading (with login credentials for paywalls) and the link+article support/view

### 5/5 — Sharing selected text exactly what I was looking for 👊🏽

*2026-04-25*

Wish I’d known this app existed before since I was looking for a way to share the highlighted text with the article and I just couldn’t find any app that did that in fact I was even thinking of writing my own until I stumbled across Unread 👍🏼

And shoutout for loading full articles whether from a link post or otherwise. After years of using Reeder I hadn’t realised how much of a boon this would be.

### 5/5 — One of my favorite apps!

*2026-03-08, version 4.7.2*

Fantastic tool for those that love a good long read! Between this and Raindrop.io, I’m set!

### 5/5 — Excellent RSS Reader

*2026-01-31, version 4.7*

I’m using Inoreader as my RSS backend and Unread as my frontend. It has a really nice, clean interface, it works and syncs great across MacOS/iPadOS/iOS, and has some really nice little features like letting you log into paywalled sites where you have an account.

### 5/5 — Superb RSS reader

*2026-01-18*

I’ve used a number of RSS readers over the years in the search for one that was powerful and flexible in its feature set. Unread is the app which really does this.

Importantly, it has support for iOS and the iPad allowing you to track your reading of items across multiple devices. It can also pull in full feeds from sites like The Verge and Ars Technica where you may have a login.

Best of all it offers quite a bit of flexibility in the presentation of feed items which means that you can get things looking as you wish. If you subscribe you get incredibly responsive support responses from John as well as some really nice additional features.

### 5/5 — Please integrate FreshRSS.

*2025-12-28, version 4.6.9*

Thank you
