## What is Unsent?

The message you can’t send needs somewhere to go.

Unsent is a private space that feels like messaging—except nothing you write is sent by Unsent or shared with us. Write to a person, a memory, your past self, or anyone else on your mind. Get the words out, reflect, rehearse something you may send, or unleash your creativity. No reply. No judgment. No consequences.

JUST WRITE

Say exactly what you mean in a format that already feels natural. One sentence or twenty messages. Messy thoughts welcome. There is no blank page to fill and no “right” way to begin.

MAKE SPACE FOR WHAT YOU FEEL

Use Unsent to:

• Rehearse a difficult conversation
• Vent without turning a feeling into a fight
• Find closure without reopening contact
• Write to someone you miss
• Speak to your past or future self
• Quiet your mind before bed

MAKE IT YOURS

Create a contact for a person, memory, moment, or version of yourself. Choose a photo, search hundreds of symbols, or pick from more than 1,900 emoji. Organize chats with built-in categories or create your own, with colors that fit what each conversation means to you.

RETURN WHEN YOU NEED TO

Keep drafts, search across your words, pin what matters, and archive conversations when they feel complete. Open any contact profile to see its category, message count, and history.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• Stored on your device, not on our servers
• No account or cloud sync
• No ads or tracking
• Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode protection
• Privacy blur in the app switcher
• Deleted messages are removed immediately, with no in-app trash or undo

Unsent is independent and founder-built: a quiet place for honest words, designed with care for people who value privacy.

Some things are better left unsaid…but Unsent.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-09-07

More room to write, new ways to back up your chats, and a sturdier Unsent.

Backup and recovery
Create dated .unsent backups and save them to On My iPhone or iCloud Drive. Restore from Settings when you need to. Restoring replaces your current chat data rather than merging it.

Safety copies
Before a restore replaces existing chat data, Unsent creates and verifies a safety copy. Manage, export, restore, or permanently delete up to five copies from Settings.

A refreshed chat experience
Floating controls and a floating message composer give your words more room. Improved in-chat search controls and subtle chat-list separators make everyday writing feel cleaner.

Stronger privacy protection
Improved file protection while your iPhone is locked and full-interface protection in app-switcher previews help keep your writing private.

Safer copying
Copied message text stays on your iPhone by default and expires after two minutes. You can enable Universal Clipboard in Settings when you want to copy between Apple devices.

More care behind the scenes
Safer draft handling, stronger safeguards during updates and restores, and clearer recovery options when something cannot finish safely.

Help, built in
Read the Privacy Policy and FAQs offline, or contact us through the new Support & Legal section in Settings.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-26

Based on early feedback, we made Unsent clearer, easier to read, and more welcoming.

• A new introduction explains what Unsent is for—and makes it clear that messages are never sent by Unsent or shared with us.

• Larger, more comfortable text makes writing and revisiting your thoughts easier on the eyes.

• Chat rows now feel more balanced across different screen and text sizes.

• When no active chats remain because they’ve all been archived, the welcoming empty state returns while your archive remains close at hand.

• We also refined onboarding, animations, launch branding, and many smaller details throughout the app.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-24

Unsent 1.2 is our biggest update yet — more personal, more expressive, and sturdier everywhere.

• A proper welcome: beautiful new onboarding introduces Unsent, its privacy promise, and how everything works.

• See what’s new: existing users will receive a dedicated What’s New sheet highlighting the update. Revisit it anytime under Settings → About → What’s New.

• Return to the introduction: the complete onboarding experience is always available under Settings → About → View the Intro Again.

• Expressive new avatars: choose a photo, search hundreds of symbols, or pick from more than 1,900 emoji.

• Categories in your colors: create custom categories in ten colors, then rename, recolor, or delete them from the new category manager.

• Contact profiles: tap the name at the top of a chat to see its avatar, category, message count, and history — and edit everything in one place.

• A redesigned input bar: write inside a clean, borderless glass composer. The new send button appears smoothly inside the field when you begin typing.

• A calmer new look: enjoy a softer light mode, a deeper purple-black dark mode, refined message bubbles, and glass surfaces throughout.

• Safer control over your data: clear messages, delete chats, or erase everything with separate, carefully confirmed actions.

• More reliable by design: failed saves no longer cost you a message or unsaved contact changes, alongside performance, privacy, and stability improvements throughout.

Thank you for making space for Unsent.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-08

Version 1.1: Performance & Polish Update
New & Improved
•	A Fresh Look: A brand-new, modern app icon optimized for Light, Dark, and iOS Tinted home screens.
•	Responsive Launch Screen: Added a striking new custom launch screen so you always know the app is active and loading, eliminating those empty black screens.
•	Refreshed Color Palettes: We updated the category colors, custom-tuning dedicated palettes so they look great in both Light and Dark modes.
•	Custom Action Menu: Replaced the system default with a custom-built, focused overlay for long-pressing messages, making text selection and message actions much smoother.
•	Oops-Proof Deletion: Added a safety confirmation alert when swiping to delete a chat so you never accidentally lose a conversation.
Privacy & Security Enhancements
•	Smarter Face ID Setup: Enabling Face ID now verifies your identity immediately before turning on, and smoothly applies to your next session rather than locking you out mid-conversation.
•	Reliable Unlocking: Upgraded the lock screen logic so the unlock button is more responsive, shows authentication progress, and correctly falls back to your device passcode if biometrics are unavailable.
•	App Switcher Privacy: Your messages are now properly blurred and hidden when viewing Unsent in the iOS app switcher.
Under the Hood (Stability & Bug Fixes)
•	Smoother Scrolling: We rebuilt the chat rendering engine from the ground up. You can now send and scroll through long texts without any issues.
•	Crash Prevention & Data Integrity: Squashed several hidden bugs that could cause crashes during launch or when clearing data. Drafts and scroll positions are now safely preserved if a mass-deletion fails.
•	Intelligent Error Handling: The app is now much smarter about catching and explaining issues.
•	General Polish: Fixed issues with clearing categories, ensured pinned and archived chats save correctly every time, prevented invisible blank contact names, and ensured old message drafts are properly wiped when a chat is deleted.
