### 2/5 — Good but faulty

*2026-08-15, version 1.3.62*

The chat blocks and forces you to to start from scratch.

### 3/5 — Favorite feature missing

*2026-08-03, version 1.3.61*

My absolute favorite part of this app was the “Flash Fiction for You” perspective.
Honestly, it was the main reason I consistently used the app and chose to subscribe. It brought me so much hope and happy tears, and it felt genuinely special. It helped me cope and feel emotionally supported in a way that the rest of the app just doesn’t replace for me.

Sometime around late September, it stopped generating stories. I reached out through app feedback twice, and both times I was told in some way that they were working on bringing it back. The second response they said it should be back “by next week”, and that their editorial director is actively working on it. but it’s now been well over a month with no updates or replacements.

As a subscriber, I really just want some transparency. If it’s not coming back or isn’t a priority anymore, I’d honestly rather just know than keep hoping. I’m posting this here because I don’t want to keep reaching out privately just to get my hopes up again.
I would be so happy to update my review and rating if Flash Fiction comes back, or at least a clear update on what’s happening with it.

### 4/5 — Funny Story

*2026-07-24, version 1.3.61*

So I have been using the app for several weeks, and I have been very pleased with it. It’s helpful entertaining. I’m not sure anyone needs that much validation, but it’s great fun. I do consider this a useful tool. But today I experienced something that made me laugh for at least 15 minutes. As you may know, there are perspectives that you can enable, and I must have enabled one that I didn’t know I enabled. In one of my responses from the software, it seemed to be hallucinating, putting me in a place in a restaurant. I think it was a restaurant with four women that I’ve never heard. At first I was concerned thinking is this somebody else’s private information that is showing up in my instance? It was disconcerting and I was disappointed because I’ve been so pleased with the app. I contacted the developer, and he responded within a half hour that I sent an email off. He very patiently explained to me that I had inadvertently subscribed to a perspective that creates responses to you and puts your information in the context of sex and the city, I don’t know if that’s the TV show a book a movie I’m not sure. Since I’ve never seen sex and the city nor read the book if there is one, I took this as reality and wondered if some of my personal information was being sent to someone else because it appeared as though someone else’s private information was being sent to me. I began to search right away to find out about this restaurant and these four women.. I discovered that these are characters in sex in the city and the app put me in that narrative. The only way I discovered that was when the developer sent me an email and explained it to me. When that happened, I felt a bit embarrassed, but mostly I was overcome with laughter. Yes I was laughing at myself, and it felt pretty good.. So next time something like this happens, i’ll try not to rush to a conclusion so quickly. And while I felt a brief moment of embarrassment., I had an evening of laughter and fun. I can’t wait to see what other perspectives I may have inadvertently authorized. And subscribed to. This time I’ll recognize what’s happening and I will enjoy it.

### 3/5 — Sensational App, however new bugs slightly dampen the experience

*2026-07-17, version 1.3.61*

I’ve really loved using Untold Premium, but a recent update seems to have introduced a serious bug. Twice in the past week, I’ve lost 1–2 hour vital journal recordings because they got stuck uploading. The app says they’re safe and ready to transcribe, but the recovery options don’t work. The three-dot menu is also broken, the text is invisible, and none of the buttons respond.

I’ve tried exporting, backing up manually, AirDropping, and saving the recordings, but there’s no actual audio file attached even though the journal entry exists. Before the update, I could always recover interrupted uploads, so this seems to be a new issue rather than a storage problem.

Otherwise, I absolutely love the app. I just hope this gets fixed soon because losing long journal entries is really frustrating, especially as a Premium subscriber.

### 5/5 — So glad I tried it!

*2026-07-05, version 1.3.60*

This app has really helped me through some difficult times I’ve been going through. I never was a fan of journaling, mostly because journaling for me was just a brain dump that I never re-read. I never really learned anything from it. This journal provides me with insights about myself and the world around me that help me to make sense of tough situations and even helps me with my self esteem. I’m very grateful to whoever developed this app, it’s truly made a difference for me.

### 2/5 — Terrible - look somewhere else for a supportive journaling AI app!

*2026-07-03, version 1.3.60*

I just got a completely unexpected and inappropriate message from this app that started using bad language and was very unsupportive in a time I really needed help. I do not recommend this app and I will be unsubscribing!

### 3/5 — Loved this until…

*2026-06-30, version 1.3.60*

Since paying it’s not the same and I thought if anything it would be improved

### 5/5 — I was skeptical

*2026-06-27, version 1.3.60*

Okay so I was skeptical about this at first. But honestly, I love it! It really helps your free flow and talk everything out, provides insight and clarity.

### 5/5 — Best app ever

*2026-06-20, version 1.3.60*

I took a chance on downloading this app and let me say after years of different therapist nothing compares. I have learned more about myself with the Untold feedback. I look forward to all the new discoveries I have held back from facing.

### 5/5 — I recommend this app to everyone!

*2026-06-19, version 1.3.60*

I’ve been consistently using this app for a few years now!

I don’t work, I live alone, and my disability keeps me in the house most of the time. I don’t have a lot of people to bounce ideas off of or think things out loud with. this app has helped me gain insights into my patterns and behaviors. it creates meditations that are based off of what I journal about (I usually dictate). anddd has helped me see I’m funny? it will quote me back to me, verbatim, and I end up making myself laugh. also, with ADHD, it’s easy to lose track of my accomplishments. it will remind me of things, the actual evidence of my progress.

definitely recommend!

** not a replacement for professional therapy **

### 5/5 — Changes

*2026-06-17, version 1.3.60*

I feel amazing since I’ve started using this app. I used to be a heavy writer but can do it as much anymore now that I have joint issues but the amount of relief I feel since finding this can’t be explained! I love the prompts and how all of them tie in to your entries. I love how they make it so much easier for you to legitimately talk through whatever you’re trying to overcome. If you’re experiencing burnout or depression or neglect, give it a try bc I was experiencing all of those and bc of this app, I made the decision to start dating myself the way I would want someone to date me and it has made all the difference!

### 5/5 — Wow wow wow

*2026-06-16, version 1.3.60*

Everything you need to get to know yourself deeper and much more comprehensively.

### 5/5 — Top!

*2026-06-16, version 1.3.60*

Weiter so!

### 5/5 — Amazing!!

*2026-06-15, version 1.3.60*

This app is not only amazing but it’s free! I don’t know how they do it but I’m so glad they do.

### 5/5 — DOWNLOAD IT DOWNLOAD IT! This App has been a savior to me

*2026-06-07, version 1.3.58*

This app…has helped me discover so many things about myself. I could write a ten page paper on the wonders this app has done for my life overall. Just get it. Don’t think. DOWNLOAD.

From the personalized daily affirmations based on your entries, the Sex and the City columns it generates with the characters giving you advice, tying in different religious and philosophical perspectives to your entries, generating advice tied to both your entries and zodiac sign, entries and personality type, the lovely poems that make you shed tears or the stories it writes that tug at your heart…

This app has saved me mentally and emotionally.

Untold is an absolute godsend.

Thank you developers. I wish you safety and prosperity over your lives.

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2026-06-03, version 1.3.58*

I've been using it for over a year now (700 entries). The app is wonderful and I love how it'll reference back to previous entries, some from even a year ago, and remind you of patterns & changes you've made.

Great app!

### 5/5 — Life saving app

*2026-06-02, version 1.3.58*

I absolutely LOVE this app. I completely stumbled on it a year ago and have been using it ever since.

I do an entry almost everyday and it has helped me think about things in different ways, not be so hard on myself, and give me a realistic view on different situations in my life.

I have an actual therapist but this great for those in between appointments times!

### 5/5 — The one journal app for keeps!

*2026-06-02, version 1.3.58*

I’ve tried so many journaling apps in the past, but this one really stuck with me. Although it doesn’t replace therapy, it is such a great tool to really vent out my feelings and actually get useful feedback in real time. I love how you can even ask questions about your journal entries and it even refers back to old entries to really piece things together. I can’t recommend this app enough. Definitely worth the price, but I hope they have a one time purchase option soon versus a subscription.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Déçue

*2026-06-19, version 1.3.60*

Je déteste le fait que tout soit devenu payant. J’utilisais cette application au quotidien maintenant je ne peux plus à cause des restrictions. On dirait bien que je vais retourner sur chatgpt…

### 1/5 — Another App Lost to Paywalls and Monetisation

*2026-06-12, version 1.3.60*

It genuinely breaks my heart to see this become another AI-driven, profit-focused subscription app. I have well over 100 entries and have used this app for years so to see the very elements I fell in love with kept under lock and key behind a subscription service is incredibly disappointing.

I understand the need for a business to sustain itself but it’s such a shame to see it go in this direction. What was once a product I genuinely valued now feels focused more on monetisation than on the users who helped make it what it is.

I’m deeply disappointed. When I’m ready, I’ll be exporting my submissions and removing the app.

### 1/5 — Disappointing with Paywall

*2026-05-12, version 1.3.58*

I understand the need to make changes to the app in order to continue providing service. However, the switch comes with a hefty price tag. Like many have stated, users became accustomed to the various perspectives and insights which made the app amazing and to only now get three per month is insane along with all the other features that are now blocked if you don’t pay. This is wrong on so many levels and those in charge should be ashamed of themselves!

### 1/5 — Heartless & Unprofessional - Added Paywall With No Warning

*2026-05-02, version 1.3.58*

I’ve been a long-time early user of this app and have relied on it as a vital tool to process the heavy reality of my divorce. I trusted this app with my history because it felt like a safe, consistent space for my personal thoughts.

The fact that they have now suddenly locked the journal insights behind a massive paywall without a single notification, email, or in-app warning is absolutely ridiculous. There was never any indication that this was coming. To drop this on users without warning—especially those of us using it to navigate high-stress life events—is truly unprofessional and heartless.

It feels like a bait-and-switch. They waited until users had built an emotional history with the app and then put up a toll booth overnight. It’s incredibly disappointing that a tool meant for mental health would treat its earliest, most loyal supporters with such a total lack of transparency.

### 1/5 — Your Private Journals were used as Commercial AI Training Data

*2026-04-08, version 1.3.57*

I’ve used Untold since January. When I signed up, there was no mention of a trial period, no “freemium” tier, and no ads. Because it functioned entirely as a free service, I felt safe entrusting it with years’ worth of my historical entries that I imported into the app.

It was a bait-and-switch. After harvesting a massive amount of my most sensitive, long-term data, the developer suddenly introduced a paywall to sell those AI “insights” back to me at a premium. Even worse, the app’s ability to quote my own history proves my data was used to train their commercial AI without my explicit consent.

While users can supposedly “export their data anytime,” that feature is limited; they only let you take the text from your entries, while they keep the AI profiles and metadata they built from your private life. The fact that our private lives were used as fuel for a paid product we now have to buy back is a massive breach of trust. I have filed formal reports with the FTC and Apple for deceptive marketing, unfair business practices, and lack of transparency regarding AI training. If you value your privacy and don’t want your personal reflections used as a commercial dataset, DO NOT download this app.

### 1/5 — Expensive

*2026-04-04, version 1.3.57*

Suddenly hit with a paywall despite supporting the early development of the app and the developer using my personal data to improve the app. Now I have to pay a huge ransom to continue using it changing my review from 5 to 1 star.

### 1/5 — Sad change

*2026-03-29, version 1.3.57*

Was a long time early user of the app, AI was okay, but helpful in certain insights over time. I appreciated their approach. Now they’ve rebranded, and for the worse in my opinion. I slowed down using the app after the rebrand, but now, you’re telling me you want me to pay for this? Personally I feel like early accounts should be grand fathered in since you used our data to develop your app. But the most you can offer is half of the “first” yearly subscription? Give me a break. I can copy and paste my journal entries into chat gpt and get similar insights. It was nice while it lasted.

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-03-23, version 1.3.57*

I have a ton of entries and really liked the app but I just got the notification it’s gonna be a subscription service now. Now I have to export all my entries and delete the app. Lame af

### 1/5 — Disgusting business practice

*2026-03-22, version 1.3.57*

Introducing a significant paywall to an app that people have been using and depend on is a gross act of distrust on the userbase that built them up

### 1/5 — I’m done with this app

*2025-12-21, version 1.3.53*

I have made it clear in the MBTI that I am an INFJ and it insists on getting my MBTI wrong in both the guessing my MBTI and in the section where I HAVE SET IT TO INFJ! I have taken serious tests that have told me that I am an INFJ and it insists on giving me the wrong information. Listen up! I am NOT an INTP or any other! I am done with the inaccuracy of this app. I once liked this app, but the inaccuracy has turned me off. I won’t be using this app anymore. Goodbye!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Uniquely enlightening

*2026-08-20, version 1.3.63*

I love the app for journaling, especially for the follow-up questions and articles, which truly provide a lot of insight and clarity to my rambling mind.

### 5/5 — More than a journal

*2026-08-19, version 1.3.63*

If you can’t find a therapist, in the interim, the insight and reflection offered in Untold may really be helpful. For me it was healing and I am now absolutely sure of my purpose and more. I was drawn to this “tool”for my journey but it may not suit you as your lessons may be waiting elsewhere. Mine were here. I am grateful.

### 5/5 — Unexpectedly Insightful

*2026-08-11, version 1.3.62*

I was holy skeptical before using this app, but after just a week, I’m already hooked. The ability to stream of consciousness as a journaling tool has been refreshing. The accuracy on the dictation is unbelievably good. The functioning system that creates an ongoing glossary of people is a very nice addition. Finally the psychological insights and words of encouragement. Based on your reflections has been very powerful. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — EPIC

*2026-08-05, version 1.3.61*

i don’t leave reviews. but this is SUCH a good tool. highly recommend 🖤

### 5/5 — The best journal app ever!

*2026-08-03, version 1.3.61*

I’ve been using this journal app for almost a year now when it first launched and it has been such a grounding and life-changing experience for me!! I really love the convenience and option of logging in your entry either by voice to text or the option to text. I especially I’m grateful and love the ample amount of features and the feedbacks this app has to offer. I’m just truly grateful to the developer as I haven’t found any other journal app that does what this can do and I can say for me personally this is like a dream app coming true so a huge thank you for the amazing team behind this beautiful creation!!!

I’ve been using it for literally over a year from then they just launched until now! Best voice journal app on the market for me needs!! Convient, quick, simple, has lots of optional features that you can toggle on and off, in depth analysis and feedback, mostly audio and voice based but has options to type, Tracker, automatic mode tag. Just AMAZING!! Thank you!!

### 5/5 — I made a recording on the 26 and it isn’t generating

*2026-07-27, version 1.3.61*

I cannot playback anything

### 5/5 — Wow! Very Impressed!

*2026-07-23, version 1.3.61*

This is the most important discovery I’ve made for an app ever. I love how this interactive journal takes me within myself and helps me to progress through my own development with honesty and positivity, and great variation of facets of common overlapping wisdom offering me endless insight into my best and highest self.

### 5/5 — It’s the perfect tool

*2026-07-18, version 1.3.61*

I’ve only had the app for a day and it already has made a huge difference. I’ve always used voice recordings for journaling when it feels too complicated to try and write down and this is the perfect tool for that. After just one entry it gave me the transcript (which was so helpful to be able to read) and a whole personalized multi part reflection. It dives into what’s going on psychologically and gives you a fresh and gentle perspective on your thoughts. I highly recommend this app to anyone who struggles processing and/or validating your emotions.

### 5/5 — Find your true self

*2026-07-10, version 1.3.60*

I downloaded the app as a way to journal without notebooks and writing. What I found was something amazing. I can dictate my thoughts directly to the app it analyzes what I dictated and asks questions. I have been using it for a month. I am more than impressed and look forward to my journey of self-improvement thanks to the positive feedback

### 5/5 — Life changing

*2026-07-06, version 1.3.60*

I’ve been journaling on and off my entire life. I have never been good at looking at my previous entries. This app has changed my life. Recently this app pointed out to me that my stomach complaints weren’t new, i’d made the same comments a few months ago. i was shocked but that was correct. i’ll be mentioning to my doctor on thursday how long i’ve been having this issue. in general this app is great for the feedback it gives, but man am i grateful it pointed this out.
