## What is Upgrade Muslim?

Upgrade Muslim: Prayer is a calm everyday companion for Muslims. Prayer times for your city, azan and reminders, the qibla direction, a Hijri calendar with Ramadan mode, a tasbih counter, morning and evening adhkar, 267 du'as from "Fortress of the Muslim" with audio, the whole Quran and widgets.

No sign-up, no ads, no in-app purchases. English and Russian.

PRAYER TIMES
• Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha for today; the next prayer is highlighted
• Calculated right on your phone — works without internet
• The method follows your place automatically (the muftiate's own method in Russia, Diyanet in Turkey, Muslim World League elsewhere), or choose one yourself: Muslim World League, ISNA, Egyptian General Authority, Umm al-Qura (Makkah), University of Karachi and the Russian muftiates
• Asr — Standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) or Hanafi

AZAN AND REMINDERS
• Azan at each of the five prayers, with a separate morning azan for Fajr
• Choose the azan, the default sound or silence for each prayer
• A reminder 10, 15 or 30 minutes ahead
• Optional: Duha prayer, tahajjud (the last third of the night), Friday (Surat al-Kahf, salawat and Jumu'ah), fasting on Mondays and Thursdays

WIDGETS
• Small (next prayer, time, countdown, city) and medium (all five prayers) widgets
• Lock Screen widgets on iPhone
• They switch to the next prayer by themselves

HIJRI CALENDAR AND RAMADAN
• Today's Hijri date on Home — the new day starts at Maghrib
• Dates for the year ahead: start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, the Day of Arafah, Eid al-Adha, Ashura
• Muftiates announce months by the moon — adjust the date by a day in Settings
• In Ramadan, Home shows the day and the time left to the end of suhoor or to iftar; the end of suhoor can be Fajr or imsak
• Optional reminders: suhoor is ending and time for iftar, with the du'a for breaking the fast

LOCATION AND QIBLA
• Your city by GPS or chosen by hand — search works even offline
• Times in the local time of the chosen city
• A compass pointing to the Kaaba from your location

TASBIH
• 6 adhkar with targets and a rounds counter; the count is saved for each dhikr

MORNING AND EVENING ADHKAR
• A short checklist with marks kept until the end of the day; optional reminders by prayer times

DU'AS — "FORTRESS OF THE MUSLIM"
• 267 du'as in 132 chapters and 13 categories: morning and evening, home, food, feelings, travel, prayer, Hajj and Umrah, illness and more
• Arabic text, transliteration and English translation
• The audio of every du'a is inside the app — listen without internet
• Repeat, counter, search and favorites

THE QURAN
• All 114 surahs: the Arabic text (Uthmani, from the Tanzil Project) and the translation by Marmaduke Pickthall in English or Gordy Sablukov in Russian — works without internet
• Search by number or name, "Continue reading" where you stopped, bookmarks on ayahs, the size of the Arabic text
• Transliteration for the short surahs
• Verse-by-verse audio by four reciters, played in the background with Lock Screen controls; what you have listened to is kept on the phone (the first listening needs internet)

PRIVACY
• No account, no ads and no ad tracking
• Prayer times are calculated on the phone — your coordinates are not sent for that
• Coordinates go only to the weather service Open-Meteo, for the rain reminder
• Settings, favorites, bookmarks, the tasbih count and the adhkar marks stay on your device

May the app help you keep your prayers every day.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.1 — 2026-11-05

• Minor fixes and stability improvements

### 1.6.0 — 2026-11-04

• An easier first launch: the app asks for your city and offers to turn the azan on, and asks for permissions only after that
• When the azan is off, Home shows a «Turn on» button
• The Qibla and Du'a circles on Home open the compass and the du'a collection right away; the adhkar live in the collection
• «Share» opens the share sheet, «Write to us» opens your mail app
• City search: the keyboard comes up at once
• The tasbih has been removed
• Fixes: words no longer break mid-word, no underline under Arabic text in the stories, the widgets guide shows your phone's steps

### 1.5.0 — 2026-10-29

• New design: warm calm colours instead of green, light and dark themes, and an evening mode from Maghrib to Fajr that makes the screen warmer and dimmer
• New home screen: the Quran, Dua, Qibla and Tasbih circles open short stories — the ayah of the day, adhkar for the time of day, the compass and the counter
• A card with the next prayer and all today's times, quick access to the sections, a Quran tab in the bottom bar
• Recitation check: the words are marked as you read — read words turn green, doubtful ones yellow, the current place is underlined. When you stop, the summary of the whole recording, as before. The words are checked, not tajweed; recognition runs on the phone, without the internet
• Settings gathered into five clear groups
• Fixes and improvements

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-28

Background modes: "audio" and "fetch".
- audio: ONLY for Quran recitation and du'a audio that the user starts with a tap (Home > Quran > any surah > Play; Home > Du'a > Play). It keeps playing on the Lock Screen with Now Playing controls. No silent or keep-alive audio; it pauses on calls and when headphones are unplugged.
- fetch: a BGAppRefreshTask ("com.muhammad.upgrademuslim.rainCheck") that runs only if the user turns on "Remind me about rain" in Settings > Azan and reminders. It makes one small weather request for the saved city and shows a local notification with a du'a if it rains. No tracking, no background location.

Microphone, new in 1.4.0: used only by the optional Recitation check (Quran > any surah > the recitation icon in the top bar, or Quran list > "Recitation check"). The user reads verses aloud; speech is recognized entirely on the device (whisper.cpp with an open-source Apache 2.0 model) and compared word by word with the Quran text. No audio or text is sent to any server; the temporary recording is deleted right after recognition. The microphone is never used in the background. On first use the app downloads the recognition model (57 MB) from GitHub.
Test: Quran > Al-Ikhlas (112) > recitation icon > Start > Download > Start recording > read the surah aloud > Stop — the words are marked correct / missed / replaced.

No login is required.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-10-26

• A reminder to make dua when rain starts, even with the app closed (turn it on in Settings → Azan and reminders)
• Fixes and improvements
