## What is Uposatha by the Suttas?

Six Uposatha days a month, the 8th, 14th and 15th, as the Buddha names them. Real lunar days, notifications, meal time and offline reminders, each rule from the suttas.

THE DAY BEGINS IN THE EVENING
In the suttas a day is "night and day" (AN 3.70), so an Uposatha begins at sunset and lasts through the night and the next day. The app gives the exact moments for your place: when it begins, what it covers, when it ends.

REAL LUNAR DAYS
A lunar day changes at a moment, not at midnight, and lasts 19 to 26 hours. The app reads it from the real Moon (astronomy-engine, accurate to about a minute), and when a lunar day is skipped or repeats against the calendar, it says so under the date.

MEALS: THE TIME FOR FOOD AND VIKĀLA
The card shows how long is left until midday, and after it, vikāla, "the wrong time", until dawn (Pc 37). Midday by the sun or by the clock. Optional reminder: the Vinaya definition of vikāla read aloud.

THE THREE PARTS OF THE DAY AND OF THE NIGHT
Morning, midday, evening; first, middle and last watch (MN 53, SN 28.1). The app divides today's daylight and darkness for your place, marks the part going on now, and shows how the monks of the suttas spend it: alms, seclusion, meeting; walking, the lion's posture, rising. A reminder at the start of each part can name it in Pali.

READ THE SOURCE
"From the suttas" and "Key suttas": about 20 passages in Pali and English (AN 3.70 on the cowherd's, the Nigaṇṭha's and the Noble One's Uposatha, AN 10.46, MN 146, Kd 2, MN 65, MN 66, MN 70 and more). "Read" opens the sutta at the exact line in Dhamma.Gift.

WIDGETS ON THE HOME SCREEN
The next Uposatha with a countdown, the Moon as it is now, the part of the day with kāla and vikāla, and the month calendar. Small, medium and large; the larger ones turn between their slides with a tap, without opening the app.

REMINDERS THAT WORK OFFLINE
Set on the device: they come with the app closed, from "when it begins" up to two days before, for the 8th, 14th and 15th, each with its own sound.
