Don’t know how to get help. ### 1/5 — Upwork is is obsolete *2025-05-05, version 1.88.0* I thought about writing a negative review about how Upwork failed to protect me against a fraudulent developer from Ecuador, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized why they wouldn’t step in to force the dev guy to reimburse me. Heck, they didn’t do anything about it. I lost $1600 to the guy and had nothing to show for it. And here’s why: Upwork is already obsolete. I got quotes for design and dev teams for $100,000 to build the app I need. I’ve replaced all of those and the need for a design team with sites like Lovable.dev. I have a robust working prototype and pitched it to a backend dev guy who is willing to build with me for $30k. No need for Upwork. Why would I have them in the middle anyway? They were supposed to protect me as a client as my escrow agent. They did nothing to protect me. Upwork is 90% scams. The few good people who are on Upwork are going to have to pivot to work with these new ai dev apps. And I don’t work or get a plug for any of them btw. Upwork is already dead on arrival. It’s like the Blockbuster chain getting replaced by Netflix. Won’t even let me take the picture of my drivers license, the camera won’t focus properly. It’s a glitch in the system they need to fix ASAP. I try for days to contact upwork support. They never responded me back. The freelancer even threat me to attack my YouTube channels if I didn’t change the review of them. Well they promised 2 videos per week. Week one zero. Week 2 zero. Nothing nada. upwork support literally don’t exist at all. And if u get a response, will be an email twllling u nothing. This is what they sent: “Unfortunately, we're unable to share the action we have taken on the reported user as we hold such a report with the utmost confidentiality. ” Translation : they did nothing. also they banned my upwork account now. Seems is their response to everything nowdays. I had to call my bank to dispute charges cause even today upwork charged me 100 extra automatically out of nowhere. and I’m disputing that again. ### 4/5 — Compliment to projects *2025-03-19, version 1.84.1* Do not get excited! This is hard to use. This can burn time and money. If you stick with it though you can find quality remote professionals to help you get difficult tasks produced. My fourth freelancer sent me a proposal that mentioned ACH payments. I was immediately permanently banned from the platform with no warning. All of my contracts were cancelled and I am not allowed on the platform for…receiving a message. ### 2/5 — Annoying fees *2025-03-07, version 1.84.1* The constant hidden fees are just annoying - contract initiation fee? Makes no sense and it’s just a money grab for no reason and zero value. Some fraudulent company—going by the name Compendious Network—used my personal phone number with their fake email address. I have no idea how Upwork “verified” it, but now I can’t even link my own number to my own account. Let that sink in. There is no customer care number. No real email support. Just some labyrinth of a support page that jumps around and loses your entire chat history like a bad video game glitch. I was messaging someone named “John” and now even that thread is gone—poof. Zero accountability. Zero transparency. Their so-called “Trust & Safety” team blocked the fake account (great), but that still doesn’t fix the underlying issue: my phone number is still locked to someone else’s account, and I can’t use it for my own. How is that even acceptable in 2025? The platform is riddled with inefficiencies, broken support channels, and a complete lack of real-time human assistance. This is not just bad UX—this is negligent customer handling. Upwork has lost my trust. Easily the most frustrating experience I’ve had with any professional platform. ### 1/5 — Moving on *2025-06-16, version 1.91.1* There is no contact for phone via customer service which isn’t uncommon, however they use bots to respond to client issues and concerns, never quoting policy and giving very generic responses. I have spent ample amounts of money over the years as a client and recently had a terrible experience as it seems The freelancers have a hard time living up Their portfolio, had someone take money from me and threaten to return it only after I promised to lie and say they completed the work and give a 5 star review, they lied and after I paid them they left me 1 star. All work customer revive keeps giving me auto responses and bot messages.
