## What is uSaid?

uSaid is a journalling app for parents. It records your kids in their words. A story worth documenting.

— Why does it exist?

Like any parent, I snap photos of my kids all the time. They capture many things, but miss one: their brains opening up. 

When my kids say anything memorable (every day!), I’ll jot it down somewhere random. Or — much worse — don’t because it’s inconvenient.

For many years, I wished I had a dedicated space so these moments — when your phone is in the pocket — are preserved. That’s why I built uSaid.

— How does it work?

Simple. There’s a “What they said…” textbox. Type into it when your kid has said something you want to record. It could be their first words, wild imagination, adorable nonsense, big questions, important feelings, teenage snark etc.

— Is that it?

Almost. A couple of other little things:

1. A bit of context gives more meaning to what was said. You can offer it by tapping on a bubble.
2. You can also long-press on the bubble to add a reaction, like in a chat app. The emoji represents how you felt at the time.

# Pricing

uSaid’s free version can only record 10 moments. 

If you want to remove the limit (and record as many), you’ll need to upgrade to the Unlimited plan.

uSaid Unlimited is available as a lifetime deal for a small fee. No subscription required. All payments will be charged to your Apple ID account at the confirmation of purchase.

uSaid takes your privacy very seriously. It does not store any personal data. Everything always remains on your device.

**Improvements**

- No unnecessary bottom padding under text input area when editing a moment.
- More compact UI when editing a moment, so you have a larger writing canvas.

- Should not crash if you are editing a moment, and have less than 2 kids.

### 1.6 — 2024-06-11

**New**

- To make it easier to add context to a moment, I’ve forked the behaviour when adding a moment based on what you press after you’re done typing:
    
    1) if you hit [next] on the keyboard, then you can add another moment (previous behaviour)
    
    2) however, if you hit the [up] arrow you’re now presented with options to add a reaction and context right there for a quick 1-2.
    
    Presumably you — like me — are recording one moment per session, so hopefully the addition of 2) will make the process smoother and make it more likely that you embellish the moment immediately.
    
- [Edit] is now an option when you are on a Moment screen. This opens a sheet which is now where you can edit what was said and the context with no fear of the keyboard blocking your text input anymore. You can also hit [return] to have multiple paragraphs in both from here if you wish (unlike the first port of entry).
- When the app updates, you’ll be welcomed with an announcement of changes.

**Improvements**

- Should feel more responsive due to improved UI performance.
- Nicer translucent material effect on top navigation bar.
- You should not see a mid-scroll animation to the bottom when opening up the app.
- When you have the keyboard up, scrolling your content will auto-dismiss it.
- ”Delete record?” text changed to more descriptive ”Delete moment?” string.
- Onboarding series of tips are more helpful with extra additions.
- Toolbar icons on a Moment’s screen are bigger (and nicer), more noticeable on the light theme.

- Bubble will be trailing aligned correctly on the Moment screen regardless of text length.
- Privacy text in bottom container when adding your kids’ names during onboarding will be correctly leading aligned.

**Improvements**

- Better distinction between sections when you tap on a bubble to view its details screen.
- Details screen buttons/menus have increased interaction affordance, particularly improved on dark mode.

**Fixed**

- Any edits you make to a moment are always saved (sometimes it might not if you did not hit [Done] on the keyboard post-edits).
- If the context you are adding to a moment is lengthy, keyboard should never obstruct the content.

# Improvements

- When you’ve tapped into a Moment screen, tapping on the bubble or context text field will clearly enable edit mode. The caret colour is visible always, and its position will be at the end of the text.
- No unnecessary scroll bounce on a Moment screen.
- You can tap on the version number on the About screen to access this changelog.
