## What is USBridge Client?

USBridge Client is a powerful, unified ecosystem designed for seamless infrastructure management and remote administration. It provides a single, clean interface for hybrid access: connect directly to your USBridge-KVM hardware for bare-metal control (Layer 0), or connect to lightweight OS-level software agents for quick remote desktop sessions.

Whether you need to fix a server that won't boot or quickly manage a running operating system, USBridge has you covered.

KEY FEATURES:

• Hybrid Access Architecture
Manage your entire infrastructure from one application. Switch instantly between low-level hardware control and standard software-based remote desktop management based on your current task.

--- HARDWARE-LEVEL FEATURES (Requires USBridge-KVM Device) ---

• Ultra-Low Latency IP-KVM Streaming
Powered by the Moonlight protocol, the app delivers crystal-smooth mouse movement and instantaneous text input response directly from your KVM hardware, eliminating input lag during BIOS configuration.

• BIOS-in-Terminal & In-App Scripting
Leverage onboard offline OCR to interact with pre-boot environments. Write, edit, and execute robust Starlark (Python-syntax) automation scripts right inside the client app to handle routine low-level infrastructure tasks.

• Virtual Media Emulation
Mount bootable images (ISO, VDI, VMDK) directly from your workstation. The target server detects it instantly via the KVM hardware as a physical USB drive, allowing for easy OS installations and bare-metal recovery.

• Hardware Power Management
Take absolute control over your server's hardware. Reboot, power on, or shut down your target machine using the integrated hardware-level power management adapters.

• Immutable Hardware Snapshots
Manage and protect your backups with block-level immutable snapshots (Btrfs) ensuring strict hardware isolation. Keep your source golden images completely untouched and fully protected against external threats.

--- SOFTWARE-LEVEL FEATURES (Requires USBridge Agent) ---

• Lightweight Remote Desktop
Connect directly to running operating systems via lightweight software agents for rapid desktop control, support, and routine system maintenance.

• Secure Connectivity
Built-in Tailscale integration protocol support ensure secure, low-latency NAT traversal, allowing you to access both your KVM hardware and software agents reliably from anywhere in the world.

Take absolute control of your servers and workstations with USBridge Client.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.16 — 2026-08-08

Fixed an issue where some keyboard characters could appear incorrect when typing on a remote session.

### 2.1.12 — 2026-08-06

Fixed

  - Streaming over the Metal renderer could falsely look frozen and force a reconnect on a strict ~5-second cycle a few seconds after connecting, even on a
perfectly healthy 60fps stream — the Metal zero-copy fast path stopped updating frame-time stats once it took over, so the app's own silence watchdog
mistook a working stream for a dead one.
  - The native Metal video overlay could pop up over the wrong screen after backgrounding the app mid-connection and returning to it — a connection attempt
frozen in the background could "thaw" after the app had already shown a different screen, and its video would appear on top of it uninvited.
  - The iOS build showed a hardcoded "1.0.0" as the app version everywhere in the UI instead of the real version

### 2.1.3 — 2026-07-30

Audio

  - Fixed garbled/robotic audio — the AES-CBC IV used to decrypt audio packets was packed in the wrong byte order, corrupting the first 16 bytes of every decoded audio frame (Opus header
included). Audio encryption is now also requested explicitly instead of relying on host fallback.
  - Fixed CoreAudio's stream-restart path silently dropping the audio frame it was about to play.

  Input & connection reliability

  - Fixed input (touch/keyboard) going silently dead after certain reconnects — a race between connection start/stop could leave input marked inactive even though video/audio kept streaming.
  - Fixed a race between LiStartConnection/LiStopConnection that could corrupt shared connection state and silently drop all input.
  - Fixed the client sometimes racing its own stream-restart logic against native Moonlight teardown.
  - Fixed a leaked network relay session that wasn't cleaned up when a stream ended.
  - Fixed the client silently reconnecting video/audio right after the user had just disconnected.
  - Fixed video overlay teardown ordering so it no longer waits unnecessarily on network disconnect.

  Networking / Tailscale

  - Tailscale now always runs in userspace mode on every platform (dropped the old system-mode path) — improves reliability on sandboxed platforms like iOS.
  - Fixed stale Tailscale identity not self-healing, decoupled the connect-time network wait from the API timeout, and added a loading spinner to the Tailscale toggle.
  - Fixed the client silently bypassing Tailscale for a same-LAN direct IP when it shouldn't.
  - Fixed connections incorrectly being forced onto the physical LAN interface for loopback cases.
  - Client now prefers the real LAN interface when determining the pairing IP.

  Clipboard

  - Added shared clipboard sync (text/image/file) between agent and client, including native image/file clipboard sync on iOS.
  - Fixed clipboard resync on reconnect and hardened it against backend races.

  UI / GUI

  - Fixed UI stutter/freezing during input — sends are now queued asynchronously instead of blocking the UI thread; also removed noisy per-frame logging.
  - Enabled the video Config button on software-only agent hosts.
  - Hardware-only features are now correctly locked/hidden when connected to a plain-OS (non-hardware) agent.

### 2.0.6 — 2026-07-16

Video
• Added H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 codec selection to the video start dialog, with correct codec names displayed in the UI.
• Fixed duplicate entries in the resolution dropdown by filtering based on the actual pixel format and labeling each option with its corresponding pixel format.
• Added support for Auto / Default pixel format selection.
• Fixed CapturePixelFormat not being passed correctly from the UI to the server.

Audio
• Fixed audio remaining silent after network stalls instead of recovering when video resumes.

Input & Gestures
• Fixed conflicts between two-finger scrolling and pinch-to-zoom gestures on iOS by making gesture detection mutually exclusive based on finger distance, using a new proper activation threshold.
• Improved the mobile virtual keyboard's function key panel: replaced the F1–F24 layout with a more practical F1–F12 layout and added an explicit Back button.

UI & Experience
• Video playback now correctly pauses and resumes when switching tabs using Fyne's overlay lifecycle hooks.
