## What is UV Index?

UV Index tells you how strong the sun is right now, where you are. One number, one colour, one line of advice.

No accounts, no sign-up, no tips popping up while you are trying to read a number. You open the app, the screen colours itself to the UV level, and you get on with your day.

WHAT YOU GET

• The current UV index as one clear number, with the background colour showing the level at a glance — blue for low, through to deep purple for extreme.
• Plain, practical sun-protection advice for every level, on the WHO/WMO five-band scale.
• An hourly forecast for today and tomorrow, so you can plan the walk, the swim or the garden around the harshest part of the day.
• Skin-type personalisation, Fitzpatrick I to VI: set yours once and the advice shifts to suit you.
• One optional daily reminder, at a time you choose. Off by default.
• A home-screen widget with the current reading and today’s peak.

IT NEEDS YOUR LOCATION

That is the whole point of the app, so it asks plainly. Your approximate coordinates go to the weather service to fetch the forecast for your spot, and to your phone’s operating system to look up the town name — nowhere else. We run no servers of our own and keep nothing.

FREE, WITH ONE BANNER

UV Index is free and carries a single banner ad along the bottom. One small one-time purchase removes it for good. There is no subscription, and there will not be one.

QUIET BY DESIGN

Three screens, one job. No accounts, no tracking by us, no data sales, no streaks, no nagging.

UV data by WeatherAPI.com. The five bands and the protection advice follow the WHO/WMO UV Index scale.
Informational only — not medical advice.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.2 — 2026-09-13

The daily reminder now arrives at the time you set — it had been using the wrong time zone, so it could turn up at the wrong hour. If you already have one, open the app once after updating and it’s corrected.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-09-07

UV Index now speaks your language. Every screen — the band names, the protection advice, the reminder and the widget — reads in your own language, using the wording your national weather or cancer authority publishes rather than a literal translation of the English.

Also here since the last release: a home-screen widget showing the current UV and today’s peak, without opening the app.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-17

No release notes.
