### 4/5 — Grateful

*2025-08-04*

Although I no longer live in the Upper Valley, I grew up in Orford and like my daily Valley News to stay abreast of events, people, nature, history in the area. The online version makes it easy to carry in my iPhone. My only complaint is some page cuts or transitions are difficult to maneuver.

### 4/5 — Saturday newsworthy news

*2025-07-12, version 3.18.05*

I like getting to see stories that have not yet been printed and delivered. Especially because there is no Sunday delivery.

### 4/5 — Three-way reading

*2024-06-07, version 3.13.01*

Thank you, Valley News, for offering three ways to read your paper!

### 4/5 — Next Edition Should Start on Page One

*2024-04-17*

I like reading the newspaper on the app, but find it annoying that when I download the newest edition, it opens on the same page as the last one I read on the previous edition. Each new edition should open on page one.

### 5/5 — Chas

*2023-11-09*

I find the on line version great and we’ll set up.
It is better than the paper version.
When I first got it it was disfunctional but now very easy to read on a daily basis.

### 5/5 — Keep up the great work!

*2023-06-29*

Valley News remains our “go-to” source for local news and information. It provides great updates on pertinent news, events, sports, real estate, weather, and others relevant to us in the Upper Valley.

### 5/5 — Works reliably

*2023-05-24, version 3.8.06*

Works well

### 5/5 — Great local news!

*2023-04-30, version 3.8.06*

Does an excellent job covering the upper valley.

### 4/5 — Useful alternative

*2023-04-16, version 3.8.06*

Useful while traveling. Useful on the days when it isn’t delivered I’m traveling at the moment.

### 5/5 — Understandable delivery issues

*2023-04-13*

We are supporters of the Valley News and appreciate the local news coverage. The App is wonderful. Our mailbox is a 1/4 mile from the house we have never read the morning paper first thing in the morning. Now, with the App we can read the Valley News along with the other newspapers we get on line in the morning.

### 4/5 — Paper

*2023-03-28*

I prefer the physical paper .
It seems the delivery person has quit and not replaced .
Therefore I get the paper by mail in the afternoon (+/- 5 pm)
I want it in the morning , so I read it online. My wife is okay with it being later although would also prefer it in the morning.

### 5/5 — Perfect for travel, and other times

*2023-03-04*

I have had access to the VN website for a few years. It is my link to home when traveling. Lately, with our heavy snowstorms, it has allowed me to enjoy the news in the warm comfort of my living room. While I prefer the actual newspaper, this website is a great service. Thank you VN!

### 5/5 — Especially great on a snowy days!

*2023-03-04*

I still enjoy reading the physical paper most days, but my husband always uses the app. And this snowy Saturday morning, I’m delighted to be reading the paper on my iPad. The good thing about this app is you still get the serendipity of reading the newspaper and can read articles that aren’t only fed to you by an algorithm.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — New style layout not easy

*2025-09-25, version 4.0.1*

Go back to the old way

### 1/5 — JM

*2025-08-23, version 4.0.0*

They changed the e-paper format. I don’t like it. Probably will not renew.

### 1/5 — VN

*2025-08-23, version 4.0.0*

The new format is Awful! I can’t easily negotiate it. I may have to cancel my digital subscription and go back to delivery paper.

### 1/5 — Almost unusable on iPhone

*2020-11-14, version 2.8.15*

On the iPhone, this is almost unusable. Navigation is difficult with a poor table of contents and random pages appearing when swiping to the next page.

Articles that appear on multiple pages in print are also separated in the digital form.

Scrolling is jumpy so it’s easy to lose your spot. Swiping up to the top of a story goes to the table of contents with no way to return the the page you were viewing.

Turning the device sideways to get a larger view of some types of content (e.g. for comics) results in a blank page.

### 2/5 — New version is not as good for reading

*2025-10-01*

It seems ‘fancier’ or something with more features, but all I want to do is read the daily paper and the previous version of the app was much better suited for that, much easier to navigate through the pages and select articles from the page. This version is definitely a step backwards in that respect.

### 2/5 — New VN app

*2025-09-05, version 4.0.0*

The new app for reading E-edition is not as user friendly as the previous app. It is very inconsistent when taping on a specific article. Moreover, it does not always work. Too bad VN didn’t test this and work out “kinks” before launching!

### 2/5 — Bugs in the app

*2025-09-02, version 4.0.0*

The new app has the entire paper numbered by page, so it’s difficult to navigate to the jump when reading the e-paper.

### 2/5 — Title truncated due to size.

*2021-04-14, version 3.2.64*

The title of the app is truncated at WestLebanon… on an iPhone XS and can’t be read correctly. Also, when did the Valley News change its name to anything that included West Lebanon?

### 3/5 — Nice to have this option

*2022-03-28, version 3.6.05*

Good content. Nice to have this electronic option. Would love a dark mode option.

### 3/5 — Cannot get in

*2019-05-12, version 2.8.15*

Good luck ever getting in.

I was set up for my paltry two free articles through the website, and decided the app would be easier. It isn’t.

After going through the cat and mouse game with password resets at least four times this morning, I’m told no account is found.

Who needs that frustration?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Essential local news

### 5/5 — Great e-news

*2025-06-12, version 3.18.05*

The app is easy to use and very convienent!

### 5/5 — Favorite Newspaper

*2025-03-18*

We subscribe to six news papers. I always open up the Valley News first. Although, we now live in Arizona, the News keeps us in touch with the “ goings on” around Corinth and the State.

### 5/5 — Suggestion

*2025-01-03, version 3.13.01*

Hiya

Getting tomorrow’s paper online after 10 pm est would be nice

### 5/5 — Very adequate for reading the paper.

*2025-01-02, version 3.13.01*

Only a few minor annoyances. Overall it works very well. I use it mainly on an iPad.

### 5/5 — Congrats

*2024-11-14*

Valley News made the Morning Joe headline review with one of its articles this week. Great news paper with solid, broad, interesting reporting. Our friends from the big cities think it better than theirs!

### 5/5 — News from everywhere !

*2024-05-18, version 3.13.01*

Quick editions to look up at fingertips w/o scrolling up & down . Nice set up on the app.

### 5/5 — Great News App

*2024-02-18*

Valley News app is the very best news app that I have encountered. Navigation is very easy and the typeface and font size makes for pleasant reading. What I like best is that there is full text content from the newspaper without too many distractions from photos, ads, and videos.

### 5/5 — Always great

*2024-01-17, version 3.9.19*

Thanks for hanging on in t tough news paper world

### 5/5 — Great News App

*2023-12-07*

The VNews App is very well designed. In my little rural town many of my neighbors are lamenting the cessation of home delivery to the green plastic VNews box that is co-located with their Mailbox at the end of their driveway. OK Boomer! It is time to let it go!
The days of printing news on dead trees and rushing it to your door every morning are over. One of my sons did that job for about a year and the reality of driving 40-50 miles every morning racing around our rural roads just so you can have a daily “Paper Read’ with your morning coffee is incredibly wasteful. Just get a nice big tablet and enjoy all the advantages of this very well designed App.
I know it is hard to adjust from long-standing habits, and I too, at first, missed the cozy familiarity of a physical Newspaper in one hand and my morning coffee in the other. But the best way we can support Local (and non-local) Journalism is to subscribe to the digital version of your favorite morning reads and move on. My 12” iPad Pro has enough “screen real estate” to give me a reading experience that is effective and (after you get adapted to it) enjoyable. I can jump around the sections - I can quickly share and article with a friend - and a bright backlit screen saves me from reaching for that magnifying glass with the built in light that helps my 71 year old eyes see tiny print on a paper page. Yes, I still read “paper based” books, and I don’t want my books and monthly magazines to be digital only …yet. But I don’t want to see our daily news sources, local and global, to disappear because they fall into bankruptcy trying to hand deliver a bunch of paper pages to your door everyday. Please consider supporting your favorite daily news sources, and especially The Valley News, by subscribing to the online editions. I know you will miss the “Paper Reading” experience… and you will have to find another source of paper for starting the wood stove, lining the litter box and packing those old dishes… but if it keeps quality local journalism alive then I say “Go For It!”
And don’t look to USPS for a delivery solution. The Post Office is not designed to deliver a daily paper to your door.
