## What is Vän?

Vän is Swedish for friend.

A quiet companion for your hand that calms you in seconds. No account, no ads, no subscription.

Tap the screen and feel a soft, living vibration. Vän turns your phone into something you can feel, something your mind can hold on to. You don't have to look. Just close your eyes and follow the feeling.

Nine companions, each with a character of its own:
- Pulse, a calm heartbeat you follow into the quiet.

- Rain, a soft, drifting patter.
- Purr, a deep, warm resonance.
- Breath, a guided rhythm you feel in your hand.

- Wind, a long rise and fall.

- Fire, a slow, warming flicker.

- Gong, a deep strike with a long, lingering fade.

- Storm, a distant rumble that slowly passes.
- Moon, a slow rocking for the evening.

The Journey:

Choose a few companions and a duration, and let one feeling carry you to the next, with gentle transitions and a soft gong at the end.

Tuned to you:

Choose the intensity, from gentle to intense.

Three breathing rhythms plus your own, from calm focus to drifting off.

A sleep timer that lets the session fade out on its own.

Widgets that put your companion one tap away on the Home Screen.

Built for quiet:

No notifications. No tracking. No subscriptions. Vän collects nothing, everything stays on your device, and everything works offline.

Designed and developed in Switzerland.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6 — 2026-07-01

Storm & Rain
The storm now has its own lightning animation, with the particles moving in sync. The overall effect is calmer and more focused than before. Rain now has a soft drizzle layer in the background that slowly drifts in and fades away.

Smoother transitions throughout
Animations across the app have been refined: tab switches, expandable cards in Insights and Profile, and figure selection in Journey now respond with spring-based motion instead of hard cuts. The tab bar fades gently when you enter a session, no more jumping or sliding.

Journey
The selected Storm tile now shows a magenta border. Haptic feedback when tapping figures is now consistent.

Insights
The Storm description has been rewritten to reflect the full experience, including the brief lightning flash.

Also: improved scrolling performance.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-06-24

The companions have come to life.

Now you can see more of what you feel. The Pulse, Purr and Gong send out gentle rings. Rain falls in visible drops, fine embers rise from the Fire, and the Breeze carries the figure softly to one side. The Storm glows deep violet, and the Moon rocks quietly from side to side.

I also hand-tuned every vibration once more, so each companion feels clearer and more natural.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-14

Vän becomes visible. Every companion now has a soft glow that breathes live with its haptics, so you don't just feel the sensation, you see it too.

New in this version:
- The Storm, a new companion with distant rolling thunder, lightning, and a glow that flickers with it
- Custom breathing pattern, freely adjustable to your own rhythm
- Wind-down, where tempo and intensity gently fade out, perfect for drifting off to sleep
- Sleep timer as a clear, simple card that remembers your last setting
- The Gong and the Storm are now available as widgets too
- Calmer menus and lots of small refinements

### 1.1.1 — 2026-06-12

Minor improvements and optimizations.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-11

This update brings some polish. The logo and home screen feel more cohesive, and moving between the overview and your companion is smoother now, with no more jitter. Plus a few smaller visual refinements.
