## What is Vanecast?

Vanecast is a weather app that never asks for your location.

Most weather apps open with a Location Services prompt. Vanecast opens with a
text field. You type a ZIP code or a city name, and that is the only location
detail the app ever uses. It does not link CoreLocation at all, so there is no
prompt to decline and nothing to turn off later.

Everything comes from Open-Meteo, a free and open weather service. No account,
no sign-in, no tracking, no ads.

WHAT YOU SEE
- The current temperature and condition, with feels like
- Humidity, wind speed, and wind direction
- The UV index with its exposure band, from Low through Extreme
- Sunrise and sunset for the city you are viewing, in that city's own time zone
- An hourly forecast for the next 24 hours
- A nine day forecast with the high, the low, and the chance of rain
- The moon phase, named and shown at all times
- A weather key that explains every forecast icon and colour
- Fahrenheit or Celsius, switched from the toolbar

SAVED CITIES

PRIVACY
Vanecast stores your saved cities and your degree preference on your device.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-09-11

Small visual improvements.

### 1.2 — 2026-09-09

Version 1.2 fixes the forecast table.

The high and low temperatures could be cut off when text was turned up, when Bold Text was switched on, or under Display Zoom. That column now takes the room the shorter columns do not need, so the reading stays whole.

If a forecast still cannot fit the width, it becomes one entry per line rather than trimming anything. Every reading now stays whole at every text size, with or without Bold Text.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-08

Version 1.1 adds the sun and the moon.

- The UV index, with its exposure band from Low through Extreme
- Sunrise and sunset for the city you are viewing
- The moon phase, named and shown at all times
- A weather key that explains every forecast icon and colour

Times are now shown in the city's own time zone. A saved city on the other side of the world reads in its own hours.

The forecast icons are simpler as well. A sun or a moon appears only when the sky is clear enough to show one, so rain and cloud look the same by day and by night.

Larger text sizes lay out properly now. Nothing is cut off at any size, and at the biggest sizes each reading takes a line of its own.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-03
