It’s really annoying. When it works it’s great. But otherwise it’s not so great. Of course no issues during commercials. ### 3/5 — JB *2025-11-25, version 1.4.0* Why can I not save my favorite team? I shouldn’t have to search through every game every time I want to listen to my team. Try this… *2025-10-05, version 1.3.0* While trying to listen to a game this evening, I got the dreaded “white screen” after trying to connect to my requested stream. There is no graceful recovery from this - you must kill and restart the app. I tried many, many times to no avail. After the game was over, I decided to try to listen to the post-game content and again got the white screen. I then decided to see if I could connect to the opponent’s stream, which I could do. After connecting, I found that I could then select my team’s stream, which worked great. Based on this, I suspect that there is a missing ad or a malformed address to an existing ad which is causing the white screen. I did submit a report during the game through the app, but since this has been reported many times in the past, I suspect that the support folks are not paying any attention to the reports, or cannot debug the issue. My hope is that they will see this review and use it as a starting point to debug this problem, and/or test to make sure that the ads actually exist. If not, hopefully this workaround continues to work. It’s fantastic. The problem is it hardly ever loads. When you click the icon, it just goes to a blank, white screen, where the 15 second ad normally loads. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the ad or what, but it only works about 25% of the time. When this issue exists, none of the other game audio loads either. If this was fixed, it would easily be 5 stars and the best CFB game day app around. ### 2/5 — Needs better stability and user interface *2025-10-04, version 1.3.0* The potential is amazing but way too often, the user selects a feed and gets sent to a white screen. Like it is trying to retrieve an ad but never resolves and it just freezes there until the end of time. Unfortunately, frequently it doesn’t work or stops working. The other issue is if you pause too long, there’s no way to jump forward, you have to kill the stream and start over. Never was great, but at least was functional. Now it makes you watch the ad and then never loads the game you’re trying to listen to. When I first started using some years ago, there was glitching, but it has since smoothed out and became a reliable broadcaster. However, last weekend, I had issues with getting it started, it finally played the pregame. I closed it to watch a video podcast, turned it on for the game and got a white screen. Since then, I have not been able to access it. I did update the app after the 1st white screen, and had updated my phone (Apple 18.7.1). Just tried with the press conferences today - I get notifications, but when I try to open it, it does not work. I uploaded the app to my iPad, same result. I can finally listen to all college basketball games. My only problem is there is no Ohio State podcasts. It is unlimited college football broadcasts, from both teams, without sign-in requirements or a subscription fee! In this day and age, are you kidding me? We should be down on bended knee offering this developer a fatted calf on a silver platter and tankards of cold mead, not 1-starring the guy! Normally I’d think that the poor reviews are caused by people upset about their own team’s losing performance (kind of like people review bombing a pizza app because their driver was 30 minutes late) or maybe user error due to outdated device or lack of app updates. But no, I’m not rocking the latest iPhone by several generations now and the Varsity app works just fine for me. I think it boils down to the undeniable fact that some folks will never, ever be happy. With all the complaints about subscription fees, poorly rating an app like this is beyond ridiculous. Thanks to the development team for making every college football Saturday better and brighter for those of us out on the road. ORIGINAL REVIEW 9-2023: How can this be rated only 3.6 stars?? It’s free college football streaming (and probably other sports, too, but who cares—football is king) for almost every program imaginable. The developer offers a sign-in option, but amazingly (in this day and age) doesn’t force it on you. Even more amazingly? No subscription fee! This is the kind of developer who should set up a tip jar, because I’d contribute to it regularly. I use this app every single weekend during the fall; there are great games every Saturday. The stream never cuts out. It includes pre-game, post game, and sometimes, post-game call in shows; even Sirius doesn’t match that! 3.6 stars? Please.
