## What is Varsom?

About Varsom

Improve planning for winter trips into the hills and mountains or on frozen lakes. Prevent damage from floods with better knowledge. Report where you have seen avalanches. Together we can save lives and reduce damages due to avalanches, floods, landslides and dangerous ice conditions.

This app gathers in one place the most important features from the Varsom Platform needed in the outdoors, for field inspections and for readiness, crisis management and rescue situations. Observations from regobs.no, warnings from varsom.no, and support maps from xgeo.no and iskart.no are included.

The app is also available in English, such that visitors from abroad may read and submit observations, as well as receive warnings. As a bonus, the app now works well outside Norway.

Varsom and the warning services for avalanches, landslides, ice conditions and floods are services provided by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) in co-operation with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

New feature, "Plans and Tracks," in the map layer menu on the right.
With this, you can import GPX and GeoJSON files and display them on the map.

Snow profiles are now generated on the phone, so you no longer need internet access to view snow profiles.
The design is slightly different, especially the profile on the observation detail page.

Additionally, we have fixed some bugs and made several security updates.

- Fixed error when saving comments, photographer, and copyright holder on images
- Fixed an issue that prevented submitting an observation if the login session had expired

Fixed since version 5.0.5:

- Fixed downloading of offline maps
- The "start trip" form now has the correct background color and improved validation
- Hide observations from automatic stations by default
- The texts "No weak layers" and "No avalanche activity" were not shown in the form
- Displaying the observation time when registering an observation was off by one hour
- The place name for the position when registering an observation was not shown until you moved the marker
- Fixed so that ice thickness = 0 is not shown when the thickness is unknown
- Improved display of the observation detail page
- Flood area polygons are now shown again
- The button to add layers at the top of the snow profile now works
- Several security updates
