I especially enjoyed the parts about the Sistine Chapel. However, the developer needs to add a section in the apps description about the need to download additional data files after the app download and to do this while you’re still on Hotel WiFi. I bought the app while I was already in town and was under the impression that the 25MB app download included the media files. But after opening the app for the first time it wants to download an additional 130MB of data, which took almost 30 minutes over a LTE connection with multiple network time outs from the apps CDN. Without these additional files the app won’t work. ### 4/5 — Worth buying! *2013-09-11, version 2.0* This app is well worth the money. A little difficult to navigate at first, but when you get the hang of it the maps are very helpful. A lot of in-depth information about the artworks. Helpful in the Vatican and fun to relive the Vatican at home. ### 4/5 — Mostly excellent app! *2011-07-21* My family and I really enjoyed this app. There is a lot of info in the guide. And it's cheaper than the on site audio guides that you can use at the museum. Plus when you are finished at the museum, the material can be reviewed at a later time, something we all did due to the overwhelming amount of material at the museum. The only negatives you might note are that a few of the lesser attractions have text but no audio info and that there is no way to keep the audio continuing from one attraction to the next. Once you've heard the spiel, the audio stops, you have to pull out your phone or ipod to select the next exhibit and hit the play button. Also if you want to pause the playback you have to take out your device, open it and hit the pause button. If you use your earphone controls to stop playback, when you hit them again to resume, your iTunes music will begin, not the app. Minor inconveniences for an otherwise great app. ### 5/5 — Wow! *2010-05-14* Just returned from Rome. Rick Steves is good on other Rome highlights, but get this one for detailed guide on the best of the incredible Vatican Museum. ### 5/5 — If you're going, get this app! *2010-05-08* Came back from visiting the Vatican Museum and was glad we got this app. The quality and production are really great. We also listened to Rick Steve's and a friend rented the museum audio tour. The museum audio tour is way more comprehensive and can give you details on almost every exhibit which can be a bit tiring. This app, however, provides a very good highlight tour and multimedia guide. What I really enjoyed is the photo galleries. One of the Raphael's room was under renovations so seeing the pictures allowed us to see what it should look like. Also in the Sistine Chappel it was great also to view the photos (wish you could zoom though) on the iphone which allowed you see more details that were difficult to see. Also the photos followed the audio and will guide you to where you should focus - such as where is that self-portrait in the room. Overall well worth the investment, and actually cheaper than the museum guide and you can't bring that back home :) ### 5/5 — Probably the Best Museum Guide Application *2010-03-06* This is very probably the best museum guide application in the App Store, with illustrations, descriptions and floor plans. With the dramatic music and close up pics to enhance the narrative, i was moved to tears hearing about the history and meaning of each art piece (over one hour of info on Sistine alone-broken down into different categories). Multiple tour guides w their groups came in went as we listened in admiration. Highly recommend headset w this. We used y connector to plug in both of ours. There appears to be no update for this. Very disappointed. ### 3/5 — Could do more *2012-01-16* A well executed app that skips most of the museum to focus on the Sistine chapel. What is there is really well done but at £4.99 you would hope for more detail and information in the other areas. Hopefully an update would include this. Until them 3 stars. ### 3/5 — Should be called Sistine Chapel Tour *2010-05-17* This should really be called the Sistine Chapel Tour, because that's where all the content is. The chapel is covered in good detail, but the rest of the museums are left with very superficial content. Some sections have no commentary at all, others just a few words of text. Some parts are missing altogether, including two entire museums that come after the chapel. It's a great shame, because the app itself is really well executed. In summary, nice looking app, and while it's discounted it's probably worth the cash for the chapel. But 90% of the museums are not explained, so you're better off spending a couple of dollars more and getting the very detailed and much more comprehensive audio guide provided by the museum itself. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Dynamic comments with dramatic music *2022-07-13* Great app !! Our teenagers and us were captivated by the concise information but complete information. The music in the background of the comments added a dramatic touch and is a great plus. Easy to use. I would like to see the gallery photos expanded that you see by turning the device sideways , and wish all the numbers were video over voiced. I would love other museums and parts of the Vatican covered and st. Pete's , Fran Angelico's , St. Nicholas chapel, and the other museums , like the carriage museum covered as an add on to the one day tour shone . Also more info hot spots and perhaps a chronology of the Popes. thanks for a great education tool and an enjoyable afternoon re- living the Vatican tour with my daughter . Despite not being able to follow the planned route due to closures of certain sections of the museum, we found it to be very informative. The Sistine chapel information was particularly impressive and drew much interest from other visitors as we looked at the close ups of each part of the chapel. We used a Y splitter with 2 pairs of headphones and walked the suggested route. I loved it. Made the day so memorable and interesting. Can't recommend this enough. Don't forget to buy your Vatican tickets online before you go. You will avoid the big line.
