They have a website and app that folks who are vegan have been familiar with for a long time. Also, if you have travel coming up, you can search for dieting options in your destination city on happycow.net. I tried doing a search for Paris, France in this app, and nothing comes up. If I search for apparel in Washington DC, the first establishment in the list is in New York and the second is in Las Vegas? Maybe the app is just new and needs to capture more establishments? ### 4/5 — Only in big cities. *2024-12-31, version 5.0.13* Veganism is not good enough. Coca Cola, Oreos, Twinkies, incredible burger are vegan. Also doesn’t appear to have a difference between vegan options and vegan restaurant. Leaves a lot to be desired that other apps already offer ### 1/5 — Suspicious of what purpose this serves when another app already exists *2024-11-19, version 5.0.11* Images are AI generated and with a foreign language in the background. Is this app just data mining user data? The closest hit to my house offers white rice and broccoli and you have to go to a third-party site to get that info because this app doesn’t tell you what makes the choice vegan friendly. The app advertised it’s for users who are sick of finding a side of fries as the only vegan friendly option and then does just that. Hard delete. I imagine the 5-star reviews are from the app developers. ### 2/5 — AI Photos? *2024-11-18, version 5.0.11* This app has a good concept but every recommendation features AI generated photos in place of pictures of the food or the establishment. I find this very unnecessary because most times the fake images do not even reflect the actual food or restaurant. For instance I got a picture of a retro/sci-fi looking restaurant for Del Taco...really? In the end I have to look up the places online anyways so I find that using this app has actually wasted my time. If they improve on this that would make me highly reconsidering my feelings about the app (hence the two star review instead of one). ### 1/5 — AI images *2024-11-17* No picture would be better than AI pictures. It’s an inaccurate representation of the food/business. When there are limited results nearby it will show you restaurants in other cities made clear only by seeing that it’s 500 miles away. That’s not helpful. I saw a restaurant on the app that I’ve been to personally that didn’t have any vegan options, where does this “verification” come from? Happy Cow does this whole thing better. ### 4/5 — All in one place *2024-11-13, version 5.0.11* This app saves time by showing not only restaurants that have vegan offerings, but also products and businesses. A lot of the vegan friendly restaurants are places I pass by all the time, but didn’t realize they could accommodate my dietary preferences. I wish that there was a way besides having to wait for and read reviews by users that we could understand the commitment by these businesses to truly provide vegan friendly food, not just meat free. Some kind of “vegan approved” status that could be awarded. ### 1/5 — Anti-Palestinian, Pro-Genocide *2024-11-13* Boycott this app and company. They openly support Israel’s genocide in Palestine, which goes against vegan values of basic human decency. There are plenty of other vegan apps and certification projects out there that aren’t also supporting a genocidal regime. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — AI Garbage *2026-07-09, version 5.2.0* Tried this out since HappyCow sold out. This app copies the UI of HappyCow identically, but forcibly generates poor quality AI images instead of just pulling photos from online or simply not having photos included. I did not download a vegan-centered app to support AI image generation, which is maybe the least vegan thing a company can do in current year. Edit to respond: These excuses don’t really satisfy. We use AI photos cause we don’t have our own, ok well it’s not authentic. You aren’t owed content just because you want it you have to create it and AI content isn’t helpful when it comes to understanding the actual products and food offered by a business. Some areas have limited results so it lists places so far away it’s comical to include it in the results and the response is some areas don’t have many results. Ok that’s just the reality of the situation. Including places that are 500 miles away in a local search just to give your app the appearance of having more results in areas that don’t have that many vegan businesses is misleading. Again you aren’t owed content just because you want it.
