### 2/5 — Free version NA

*2024-09-08, version 1.8*

What happened to the free version? It’s no longer appearing

### 3/5 — A pain to use

*2024-01-19*

The idea of the app is great. I’m not sure how up to date everything is. I hate the pop up adds on the free version. You can’t get out of them. It’s not worth paying $20 for the pro version. I can just look up the info myself.

### 2/5 — Too many ads

*2024-01-11*

The free version is impossible to use as videos keep popping up every time you try to scroll through. They take up the entire screen.

### 4/5 — Search feature needed

*2023-09-17*

I appreciate this app so much. The amount of time I can save figuring out whether there are any vegan options I'll actually want to eat between various restaurants when I'm out running errands, out with friends, or on work travel is fabulous.

The one glaring issue for me is that there is no search feature. For the restaurant tab, if a restaurant im looking for starts with a letter later in the alphabet, I have to scroll for days to get down the page to determine if it's even listed in the app, sometimes to discover that it isn't. I think this one feature would massively improve user experience.

I've got a background in UX, so if the developers would like any help or insight, let me know.

**Developer response:** This is pretty fair criticism to be honest. I don’t disagree at all that a built in search feature could be very helpful.

We do the best we can but we are far from programmers! Having said that, we’d absolutely welcome any insight/help you may be able to give us. Please email us at admin@veggl.com. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Great App!

*2022-07-02*

As far as the free version is concerned, it’s a pretty great app. It writes out like a blog by people that care about your experience. They make sure to keep most if not all locations updated for the current year. VeggL can be useful if you’re not interested in going through all of these businesses’ menus. It could also be useful when picking between different restaurants without having to go to each website separately.

Some of the reviews say it would be just as easy doing a google search. True to an extent. When it comes to McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King, yes you can just look it up. Of course. But when it comes to locations such as the airports, theme parks, and more obscure restaurants, it could come in handy.

As much as I would love to pay for a premium version, I don’t think there is much of a reason to do so. You have everything you actually *need* in the free version. A couple of ads (which I don’t even notice) and slightly slower loading times aren’t really that stressful. I would suggest giving some sort of bigger incentive to pay for premium.

**Developer response:** Hello Hans,
Thank you for the kind words and we’re glad you’re finding the app helpful. We always want to make sure the free version is as helpful as possible without “hiding” info behind a paywall. If you’re happy with the free version, we’re great with that.

### 2/5 — Nice concept but where is the added value

*2021-10-09*

I love that the people responsible for this took the time to go to the many fast food and chain restaurants to determine if there are vegan options. To be honest there isn’t anything here that you can find out by asking a few questions and being pleasant while doing it.

Additionally the execution of the app stinks. Two words “User Experience”. The developers should learn about it.

Installed and deleted in one evening.

**Developer response:** Hi there! We appreciate you taking the time to try out our app and hear you on what can be better for the user experience.

We are a two person (wife and husband) team doing our best to help vegans find options at not only chain restaurants but in airports and in sports venues in the United States.

We are still new to programming and as we get better, we hope the user experience gets better as well. As for being able to, “ask a few questions and be pleasant while doing it,“ we are happy you have found that to work. The reason VeggL was started was because I was constantly having to do google searches or call restaurants to know what their vegan options are; only to be met with inconsistent and even wrong information at times (plus it was time consuming and hard to do on the fly when relatives make last minute changes to where they want to eat).

Even if you’re not a fan of the app, we hope the website can be a resource for you if you need it in the future.

-Jen

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doe not work

*2025-04-06, version 1.8*

The app does not work, i couldn’t even open it.

### 1/5 — horrible and heartbroken

*2024-12-16*

this was my go-to app for such a long time until they decided to get rid of all of the free stuff. you have to pay for everything now, every single category you need to pay for. what made u guys think this was a good idea???

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-09-13*

I bought the app thinking it would be a vegan “yelp” type of style. Because the concept is great. If people could write in their finds at airports or sport stadiums and share with the community. However, the app is literally the same as their website. Do not waste your money, just use google. Such a disappointment.

### 1/5 — No free version

*2024-09-13*

I’ve had the app for awhile and suddenly there’s no longer a free version. The app just asks me if I want to subscribe. Only pro options show in the menu. Other options disappeared. I deleted and reinstalled the app. Same problem. Disappointing.

### 1/5 — Free version used to be great but now you have to pay and it’s worse than the free version

*2024-09-12*

I used it all the time when it was free and I could search restaurants etc. I gladly paid for a subscription to support an app that I found super helpful but the new version is obnoxious! I cannot search and there are less restaurants listed now. Very disappointed!!! I’m cancelling! Bring back the search feature and variety and I’ll gladly purchase a subscription again.

### 1/5 — No Canadian Content even though on Canadian Store

*2023-03-28*

Not even Rogers Centre or Scotiabank Centre for pro sports in Toronto. Neither are listed.

This should not be available in the Canadian store due to lack of content. Very misleading.

**Developer response:** Hello Smlangly,
If you look at our first screenshot in the app store it specifically states that we cover locations in the United States. We have many people who travel who use VeggL while in the US so we do not try to limit where we are available. Having said that, we are adding Rogers Centre for this baseball season and will be adding NBA and NHL arenas for upcoming seasons.

### 1/5 — Atrocious!

*2022-08-28*

This is an instant delete for me. I downloaded this app thinking I was downloading something useful. Literally the first thing I prompted to is to pay! Absolutely no preview of what it is that I’m paying for. I’m supposed to trust that worth a yearly subscription. Nonsense! I’ll stick to HappyCow!

**Developer response:** Hello,
You can use all of our free tabs - restaurants, airports, sports venues and theme parks - for free. They include all our info for each guide. No need to pay for anything. The paid version simply removes all the ads. This info is clearly stated on the landing page of the app.

### 1/5 — Bad mobile design and all paid

*2022-04-24*

You open the app and it feels like a desktop program put onto mobile. There is a welcome one that says everything but one tab is paid. Nice.

**Developer response:** Hello Alexander,
Sorry you were disappointed in the app. I just wanted to point out though that we do have a free tab for each of our categories - restaurants, airports, sports venues and theme parks.

### 1/5 — I want app!

*2021-08-15, version 1.6*

I accidentally pressed vegan pro and now it won’t let me out, I want free app but I guess there’s no way now 😔

### 1/5 — There’s no

*2021-02-28, version 1.5*

Ninty-Nine Restaurant Info...

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-04-18*

Really helpful but for some reason it stopped working and can’t be open on my phone 😭

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2024-12-26*

I don't use this app often, but it's often helped me find food when visiting family. I'm sorry to see it hasn't been updated in 2 years. I don't understand the complaints about no free content. I can use the free options (sorted under the paid options on the left), but can't access paid content because the subscribe buttons aren't working.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-02-23*

This has come in handy so many times. It’s so thorough and well researched. I’ve used it in airports, at concert and sport venues, on vacation.
I pay the small amount for Pro as it supports the work they do.
I’ve recommended it many times to people.
Keep up the good work!!

### 5/5 — New vegan that is so appreciative!

*2024-01-05*

I am new to veganism and this app has been incredibly helpful! I love the personal touch that is added to each post.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-03-26*

Love this app and they have responded to inquiries quickly. It’s hard to keep up with all the changes. This vegan (wfpb too) loves it.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to leave us a rating and review! It’s nice to hear your appreciation for our work and the VeggL app.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2023-03-17*

This app is exactly what I needed since I spend time with a lot of non-vegans, and we go to a lot of chain restaurants. I am paying the annual fee, which is not that much, just so that I always have this handy.

**Developer response:** Hi Noelle! We appreciate your review and are happy to hear how the VeggL App has been helpful for you. Thank you for subscribing! -Jen

### 5/5 — Must have for airports

*2023-03-03*

This app is fantastic for airports. I love how things are arranged by terminal so it makes it easy to find options on tight connections.

Happy cow is great in cities, but this one is a must have for venues.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you're finding VeggL helpful!!!

### 5/5 — Perfection!

*2022-05-03*

I just made the transition to eating vegan. I don’t have a ton of background knowledge on it. This app and VeggL’s website have made the transition much easier.

### 5/5 — Great

*2020-08-07*

Love this app so great for helping me find vegan options! It has been a life savor during covid because of all of chains helping me locate easy things during my road trips !!!’

### 4/5 — Vegan options on the go

*2024-01-05*

Vegan options on the go - be it on the road stopping at a chain restaurant or flying across the country and navigating airports. Been using this app for about six months now - whenever flying and stopping at various airports and also driving around and trying out chain restaurants. The info you get in the free app is what you need to navigate so many different menus and options at places you may not have tried before. Fairly easy to navigate, up to date, and complete information about menus and options for vegans.
Solid and helpful app. Four stars only because of some ads that take over the screen. Maybe I should upgrade to the ad free version, then rate it as a five star?
