## What is Veloce?

Veloce talks Bluetooth to your ebike's control unit and hands you what the display will not tell you. Read-only: it writes nothing to the bike.

THE PROTOCOLS: NO OTHER APP LETS YOU CONNECT ALL THESE BIKES
• TQ HPR40 / HPR50 / HPR60 — full support: real battery percentage instead of bars; motor power and your own power, kept apart; assist level, cadence, motor temperature, odometer, battery cycles and health, frame number and component firmware versions.
• Specialized SL 1.1 — telemetry from the motor's own service.
• Bosch — beta.
• Standard BLE sensors: power, speed and cadence, heart rate strap.

WITH NO MOTOR IT ALL WORKS, PLUS A FEW NUMBERS MORE
This is not a cut-down version for muscle bikes: it is the very same app, and it computes data other apps do not give you.
• Watts estimated from physics: gradient, wind taken from the weather, speed through the air, total mass, rolling and aerodynamic drag. No power meter needed.
• Real gradient: from the barometer where there is one, otherwise from the digital terrain model with geoid correction. Not the difference between two GPS altitudes, which on a single point wanders by metres.
• Barometric ascent anchored to GPS, so weather drift does not eat it.
• Speed, distance, pace, elevation and heart rate from a BLE strap.

TWO WAYS TO PLAY IT
THE GHOST. Load a route that has timestamps and chase yourself. On the map you see where the you of that day would be right now, and the chip tells you if you are ahead or behind, in metres and in seconds. It works on rides you have already saved: your opponent is you, three months ago.
DUNGEON RIDE. The world map starts covered in fog and uncovers as you ride, forever. Every climb is a boss, and your real watts are the force you hit with: on an ebike only your legs count, the motor does not fight for you. Your heart rate is the health bar and refills by finding food on the map. 28 achievements across four rarity tiers. No in-app purchases, no loot picked up standing still.
If you only want the numbers, one tap turns it off and you never see it again.

YOUR DATA IS YOURS, FULL STOP
• Your ride history lives on your phone. No account is needed to use the app.
• Backup goes to YOUR own cloud: your Google Drive, your folder. Not to a server of ours, because there is no server of ours.
• Only what you decide goes to Strava, at the end of a ride, when you press the button. No automatic upload, and the activity is yours.
• Standard GPX export: what is yours, you can take away whenever you like.

And the rest you expect from a bike computer: offline maps you can download anywhere in the world, a map that turns with your direction of travel, GPX routes with direction arrows and estimated arrival, voice announcements every 5 km, your ride on the lock screen.

Veloce is written by someone who rides it on Sundays. If a number is missing, write to us: it lands in the next build.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.8.23 — 2026-09-01

Choose the sport your rides are uploaded to Strava as: e-MTB, e-bike, MTB, gravel, ride or handcycle. You'll find it in Sensors & profile, and the ride name follows your choice too.

### 1.8.22 — 2026-08-22

The climb, by name. Even with no route loaded Veloce recognises the climb you are on: it draws it the way the road really runs, and tells you how far the top is and how much climbing is left.

Category and gradient colours in the scale cyclists already know, with the average gradient waiting for you to the top.

### 1.8.20 — 2026-08-20

The ride profile joins your data: a large tile shows the climbs and exactly where you are. Behind you the road already ridden, ahead the one still waiting.

When you hit a real climb the tile switches by itself to bars coloured by gradient, with how far the top is. It works without a loaded route too: the profile builds as you ride.

### 1.8.10 — 2026-08-18

Tidy up your routes: in "A ride you have already done" every entry has its own bin, and the prompt tells you what happens before it does. Your own rides stay in "My rides".

• Terms & conditions in settings, next to the privacy policy.
• A cleaner link to your sensors: the bike only gets what it needs.

### 1.8.6 — 2026-08-17

Rides with the phone in your pocket no longer get lost. When the screen goes off the system freezes the app and the location service delivers its points all at once on waking: they arrived out of order and were discarded as "stale". On a 26 km outing, 3 km survived. They are now put back in order before being used.

DIRECTION ARROWS
Arrows appear along the route: solid ahead of you, faded on the part already ridden. You can read them at a glance even with the map rotating, and if you reverse the direction they turn with the route. They stay around you — one kilometre ahead and three hundred metres behind — so on a loop that goes out and back along the same road they do not pile up.

GPX FILES DOWNLOADED FROM THE INTERNET NOW LOAD
The file picker was hiding .gpx files that came from elsewhere: you can now choose any file and the content decides. More planners' formats are read too, not just tracks.

THE MAP ALWAYS TURNS THE WAY YOU ARE RIDING
Now and then it stopped rotating and stayed pointing north, then fixed itself: when the phone is unsure of your course it sends a special value, and that value was being taken for a real direction.

YOUR HEART RATE NO LONGER FREEZES
If the strap stopped transmitting, the last value read was rewritten for the rest of the ride — and it ended up in the file and on Strava. Now if the strap goes quiet the reading disappears instead of lying, and the app tries to pick it up again by itself.

AND THE MAP, WHEN YOU SET OFF
Pick a route and it stays framed in full; press "Start" and the map really moves in on your position, instead of leaving you a distant dot. Tap the route chip and its card opens, with the overview, your progress and the elevation profile.
