## What is Velocita?

Velocita is a fast, honest GPS speedometer. A clear numeric display, full trip stats, and the features you actually need — no ads, no account, no subscription.

Works offline. Your location never leaves your phone.

FREE — EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DRIVE

- Numeric speed display with heading, altitude, and GPS signal quality
- Trip stats: distance, average speed, max speed, duration
- Auto-record trips: recording starts on its own when you drive or ride — never when you walk
- Barometer-fused altitude accurate to about one meter
- Live compass heading (GPS course when moving, magnetometer when stopped)
- Location name via reverse geocoding
- Speed in mph, km/h, or knots — distance in miles, kilometers, or nautical miles
- AMOLED black mode
- Auto-idle after 5 minutes
- Background tracking so speed and trip stats keep running when your phone is locked

VELOCITA PRO — ONE-TIME PURCHASE

No subscription. Pay once, keep forever. Shared with your Family Sharing group at no extra cost.

- SPEED LIMITS: the posted limit right on the speedometer, and an automatic alert the moment you drift over — no setup needed. Limits are matched entirely on your phone from offline OpenStreetMap-based data packs, so it works with no signal and your location never leaves the device.
- TRIP HISTORY: save every drive, ride, cruise, or train trip with a route map, speed and elevation charts, pause segments, favorites, categories, notes, search, filters, and GPX/CSV export.
- WINDSHIELD HUD: a full-screen mirrored readout that reflects off your windshield at night. Red-on-black for dark-adapted vision. Brightness ramps to 100% automatically.
- GAUGE DISPLAY: an analog speedometer with a live compass ring, min/max markers, and auto-scaling tick marks.
- SPEED ALERT: haptic buzz, OVER LIMIT banner, and a red frame when you exceed your chosen limit.
- HAPTIC SPEED TICKS: a gentle tap every 10 mph or km/h you cross.
- LIVE ACTIVITY: speed, bearing, max, distance, and elapsed time on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

SPEED YOU CAN TRUST

Asymmetric GPS smoothing reacts fast to acceleration but doesn't linger when you've stopped. Two independent stop detectors — a GPS fast-zero when consecutive readings hit the noise floor, and a Core Motion stationary check — snap the display to zero without waiting for Apple's location smoothing to settle. Poor-signal readings are dimmed with a ~ prefix, and min/max/average only record when signal is good enough.

TRIP TRACKING THAT DOESN'T LIE

Distance only accumulates when GPS signal is good enough to trust, so no more phantom miles from a parked car in a bad signal area. Pro trip history preserves the route, stats, speed alerts, pause segments, and notes for later review.

ACCESSIBILITY

Full VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, Voice Control, and Switch Control support. High-contrast colors that work in grayscale and Color Filters.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

No ads. No tracking. No account. No advertising IDs. Your location and trip data never leave your phone. Anonymous, aggregate usage signals help us improve the app and can be disabled in Settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-28

Auto-record trips gets a screen of its own — and three upgrades.

More than driving. Auto-record now recognizes rides as well as drives, so a bike trip is saved without you touching anything. Walking and running never start a recording, so a lap of the supermarket stays off your history. Already using auto-record? Rides are included from now on — nothing to change.

Know it's working. A status row tells you when a permission is missing, what that means for detection, and takes you straight to the right place in Settings. No more silently doing nothing.

Trips tag themselves. When a trip ends, Velocita reads its speed profile and saves it as Cycle or Car, so History filters stay right on their own. You can change any trip's category later, or switch the tagging off.

Also fixed: speed-limit downloads that fail now tell you why and offer Retry, and very long trips now close cleanly at the 12-hour mark.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-08-10

Try Velocita Pro free for 7 days. Every Pro feature is unlocked automatically — HUD, gauge, Speed Alert, Live Activities, and full Trip History. No subscription, ever. If you haven't had your free trial yet, it starts the moment you open this update.

Speed Limits (Pro):
Velocita now shows the posted speed limit right on the speedometer — and alerts you automatically the moment you drift over, no setup needed. Limit data for your area downloads on your first drive and is matched entirely on your phone, fully offline. A solid sign is a posted limit; a dashed sign is estimated from local statutory defaults. Regions with limited coverage are marked Beta. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Always obey posted signage.

Fixed a bug that could leave a trip recording past the 12-hour limit instead of ending it automatically.

Auto-record Trips:
Velocita can now detect when you start driving and record the trip for you. Choose "Start automatically" for hands-off recording, "Start & stop automatically" so trips also end when you park, or "Prompt me" to confirm on the Lock Screen first. Opt in from Settings.

Record Trips for Free:
Free users can now record trips from day one. Your drives are saved immediately — viewing your history is a Pro feature, so upgrade any time and your full recorded history is ready and waiting.

Saved Places:
Tap the start or end of any trip to name that location. The next time you begin or finish a trip there, it is labeled automatically. Past trips that went through the same place are relabeled too, so your history stays consistent without redoing anything.

Siri Shortcuts:
Control your trip and get key stats hands-free. Start or stop trips, switch units, or ask Siri for your current speed, distance, or top speed. Use the Shortcuts app to build custom automations around how you drive.

Backup & Restore:
Export every trip, place, and setting into a single backup file. Save it to Files or iCloud Drive, or share it to a new device. Restore brings everything back exactly as it was, so you can switch devices without losing your data.

Plus smoother auto-idle behavior and other refinements.
