It’s been a fantastic aid for exploring and planning routes, finding paths and low-traffic roads with suitable surfaces and gradients; pointing us to en route options for grocery shopping, dining and bike repair/maintenance; breaking up longer routes into stages with campsites; and syncing said stages with my Garmin Edge bike computer for navigation. In general, VeloPlanner’s routing has proved to be far superior to Google or Apple Maps bike routing, and also better than my Garmin Edge 840’s internal routing. The latter 3 have sometimes routing via stairs (painful on a loaded touring bike) or higher traffic roads, where VeloPlanner’s routes have resulted in far fewer U turns and rerouting stops. A few minor limitations perhaps indicate VeloPlanner’s relative youth - syncing with the Garmin isn’t always straightforward (best to do it before setting off); occasionally the maps miss a short cut and route you a slightly longer way; and merging stages in the iOS app doesn’t appear to be possible at this point (but can be done on the web app). However, given the quality of the product, I wouldn’t be surprised if these are improved in the near future! Overall, VeloPlanner is the best cycle route planning app I’ve used. I imported an official GPX route and from there I could easily split into daily stages based on the campsite and hotel displayed along the way. Wegpunkte können einfach bearbeitet werden und Radwege sind klar sichtbar auf der Karte. Bin unterwegs zum Mittelmeer und soweit zufrieden. Was ihr noch ändern/anpassen solltet ist, dass wenn ich die internationalen Routen einmal aktiviert habe, diese dann auch in den verschiedenen Modis erhalten bleiben. Selbst hier in München findet Veloplanner regelmäßig die die besten und direktesten Routen. Der Entwickler ist öfter auch in der Community unterwegs. Allgemein eine erfrischende andere Mapping App, die vieles sehr richtig macht und für Radfahrende imo die einzige Alternative ist wenn man nicht mit OSM warm wird. Damit sollte die Route den EuroVelo-Strecken folgen. ### 1/5 — Sehr viel Luft nach oben *2026-02-24* Keine Ahnung wie die positiven Bewertungen zustande kommen, vermutlich hat niemand die Planungsfunktion da getestet, wo man sich auch auskennt. Das sind wirklich die schlechtesten Routen. Wer gerne an Radwegen entlang von vielbefahrenen Bundesstraßen fährt ist hier richtig, da fehlen den Entwicklern wohl die Heatmaps von den etablierten Apps um gute Strecken zu planen, die Radfahrer mögen. Die App ist OK aber nichts besonderes was man mit anderen (auch kostenlosen) Apps nicht auch hätte. Die dann aber ordentlich planen. So wird das leider nichts, Radfahrer sind keine Autofahrer und suchen schon mal gar nicht die Nähe von Autofahrern. **Developer response:** Es tut mir leid, dass Sie schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht haben.
