## What is Vera?

Vera reads the ingredient list so you don't have to.

Scan a barcode and get a score out of 100 in about a second — based on what's
actually in the product, not on marketing on the front of the box.

WHAT VERA LOOKS AT
• Seed oils and industrial fats
• Added sugars and the names they hide behind
• Artificial colours, sweeteners and preservatives
• How far the product is from real food

THE SAME PRODUCT ALWAYS GETS THE SAME SCORE
Vera's scoring is a fixed set of rules, not a chatbot guessing. Scan the same
item twice, tomorrow, on someone else's phone — same number. You can open any
score and see every ingredient that moved it, up or down.

SHOWS ITS WORK
Every rule links to the research behind it — peer-reviewed papers, EFSA and
IARC assessments, and where the evidence is thin, Vera says so instead of
pretending.

BETTER OPTIONS, NOT JUST BAD NEWS
When something scores badly, Vera suggests real alternatives you can buy
instead, and you can build a shopping list from them.

BUILT ON OPEN DATA
Product information comes from Open Food Facts, the open, community-built food
database. No brand pays to be scored well. There are no ads.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account. No email. Your scans, your profile and your lists stay on your
device.
