## What is Verbex?

Your hands do the science. Your voice writes it down.

Verbex is a private voice lab notebook for bench scientists. Capture procedures, materials, observations, and results while pipetting, handling samples, monitoring reactions, or following time-sensitive protocols.

Every voice note is timestamped and saved under the experiment section you choose. When you are ready, Verbex organizes your captured notes into a source-backed ELN-style draft that you can review, edit, complete, and export.

Transcription and draft generation happen on your iPhone. There is no account, cloud storage, analytics, or tracking.

WHY VERBEX?
CAPTURE WHILE YOU WORK
Document experiments by voice while keeping your hands on the bench work.

RECORD OBSERVATIONS AS THEY HAPPEN
Every voice note preserves its recording time, helping your notebook reflect when the work and observations occurred.

YOU CONTROL THE STRUCTURE
Choose Objective, Materials, Procedure, Observations, Conclusion, or a custom section before recording. Verbex organizes your notes without deciding their scientific meaning.

REVIEW BEFORE COMPLETION
Review the original timestamped notes and edit the organized draft before completing the experiment record.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your recordings and experiment notes stay on your iPhone. Verbex uses on-device transcription and on-device draft generation. No data is sent to cloud AI services.

### 1/5 — Is this working? Edit:Never mind, it isn’t

*2026-06-15*

It says “warming up” but just keeps buffering………

Then it says failed to load and a string of random stuff, please uninstall and try again. Nice

**Developer response:** I apologize for the rough experience, Chance. Also thank you for calling the bug out. Verbex should not get stuck at “Warming up,” and it definitely should not have shown raw failure text.

Based on the limited information I had from your review, it looks like the private on-device transcription engine failed while preparing on your phone. I just shipped a new v1.3.1 update (out now) which attempts to improve that first-run setup, handles low-storage cases more gracefully and keeps internal model errors out of the note UI. This is directly based on your feedback in the past 24 hours.

To be honest, I can’t promise this will fix individual device-specific cause, but I targeted the failure pattern you described. Also I am looking to reduce the main footprint of the transcription engine.

Appreciate the feedback and I sincerely hope you’ll consider giving Verbex another shot with this new update.

### 5/5 — Beautiful and minimalistic!

Love the simplicity and efficiency! Minimalistic UI at its finest 🕺🏻

### 5/5 — Love it!!

I found this super helpful and time efficient.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.2 — 2026-08-13

-More reliable private transcription: clearer, actionable recovery guidance if an on-device transcription model cannot prepare or load, including storage, model-file, Enhanced download, and device-support issues.
-Better audio capture: silence detection now checks every audio channel and is calibrated to preserve quiet, low-gain speech and brief spoken moments while still skipping genuinely silent recordings.
-Cleaner ELN drafts: a simpler on-device, claim-by-claim drafting path with stronger preservation of quantities and identifiers, improved handling of abbreviated spoken units, removal of duplicated section lead-ins, and stricter rejection of unsupported judgments, purposes, and conclusions.
-Additional reliability and interface refinements.
-Verbex Access: new users can complete two experiment records before choosing monthly or annual access, with a 14-day free trial. Existing users retain lifetime Early Supporter access.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-07-16

Getting started with Verbex is now simpler.
• A new guided demo walks you through recording a lab note, reviewing its timestamped transcription, and turning it into a notebook-ready draft.
• Revisit the guided workflow anytime from Settings.
• Smoother onboarding and transcription preparation.
• Additional reliability improvements for on-device draft cleanup.
As always, your recordings, transcription, and cleanup remain on your iPhone.

### 1.5 — 2026-07-08

-Materials tables from images are preserved more reliably through review, completion, and export.
-Loading and empty states are clearer and more polished.

Verbex now includes Standard transcription by default, with Enhanced available as an optional free upgrade when your device has enough storage. Settings and onboarding now make it clearer which transcription option is active, and the app handles model preparation more smoothly.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-06-16

>Fixes an issue where the private on-device transcription engine could fail while preparing on some devices.
>This update improves first-run setup, storage handling, and keeps transcription diagnostics out of notes.
