The look and feel of this app is also superior. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is due to a search bug on the iPad version of the app. When I start to type in the search field, the search window vanishes so I have to switch to the iPhone version of the app to search for anything. Also, recently I discovered that Lamentations 1:1 is missing several punctuation marks and in Philippians 4:4 “always” should be “alway”…no “s”. **Developer response:** Hello! Try out the latest 7.0 release. Thank you ! ### 5/5 — Great Bible Reader *2008-10-06* By far the best Bible reader. All the others feel like the old PDA readers I've owned. Very quick and user friendly. Will gladly pay for NKJV and NIV when they are available from VerseWise. ### 5/5 — very satisfied *2008-09-13* I just bought and downloaded this wonderful app. It is everything I could want in a bible. All verse numbers are on the side so its easy to see which verse your on where as some other bible apps the verses are just in a scrambled mess and it is very hard to find the verse you are looking for. My only disappointment is that it does not have a highlighter, which would be very nice. But maybe it will come out in a future update. All in all this is a very nice bible app with a nice price tag as well, I highly recommend it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — This update wiped out all my tags *2020-11-06* This update wiped out all the tags I have been maintaining for years. Even when I try to restore them from my iCloud back up, nothing is restored. **Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear this! As you noted, the highlight and bookmark back-up files are saved to iCloud. They are also pretty easy to access from the Files app on iOS, Finder on Mac or via the icloud.com web app. (Each app has its own folder.) So if something has happened to a file, we can look at it and try to fix it. (If anyone encounters this again, please email support directly.) ### 1/5 — Skip this app *2018-09-20* Poorly edited. Noticed grammatical and spelling errors in first two chapters of OT. Not worth the purchase. ### 1/5 — Incomplete-TOTALLY WRONG *2012-05-12* In the Authorized King James Version of the Apocrypha, the last chapter and verse in II Esdras is 16:78,1&2 Ezra is wrong and there is no 3 John in the Authorized KJV. This is a bogus app with the AUTHOR reauthoring what he feels should be the way the bible should be structured. DON'T waste your money on thus sham of an app. The REAUTHOR PUT AN orthodox apocrypha in an Authorized KJV bible. If you want an Authorized KJV Apocrypha, theres only 1 in the app store and its 99¢. I know because unfortunately i purchased all of them. I e-mailed the RE-AUTHOR of this app on his online forum you can check and he said that's what he did and defended it. Deserves -100 stars. ### 1/5 — Words in red *2009-03-01, version 0* I am sick of seeing people write that they want the words of Christ in red. To them I say take note: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16) and "The words I speak to you, I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does the works." (John 14:10) I hope you are now enlightened. ### 2/5 — Search feature not working *2020-02-20* Search feature isn’t working after recent update **Developer response:** Hopefully your issue has been fixed since. (I just release 7.0.) If not, feel free to email support directly. ### 2/5 — WAS the best Bible App *2014-12-15* This latest update for VerseWise is nothing like the original version, which I quite liked. Of course, I am exaggerating a bit, but enough has changed that I can't say I'm impressed with it anymore. One of my biggest complaints is that you can no longer change the text size in-app. Which means if I want a larger (or smaller) font size, I have to close the app, dig through the settings, and change the font size for ALL text on my iPod. Whoever redesigned this app should be ashamed. It was PERFECTLY FINE before, so why change it??? This is the first time in years I've seriously considered switching to YouVersion. Please either fix it or offer a "classic" version for us diehards that hate change. **Developer response:** This is an old issue, but I did return the ability to adjust text size in-app. Sorry! ### 2/5 — CRASHES *2013-03-08, version 4.4* Every time I open the app it crashes. Please fix. ### 2/5 — Facebook bug fixed; now loses your place *2010-07-23* The newest update has resolved the network connectivity issue where the app continuously attempted to connect to the network, rapidly depleting the iPhone battery. The current version unfortunately has a challenge keeping your place when the app is quit for a more than a few minutes, or the iPhone is restarted. The "skip chapter selection" option is still correctly set so the app should "remember" your last read location in the Bible, but all it seems to "remember" is the last book of Bible you were reading. Since this is a paid app, the developer has admirably tried to respond to challenges and deficiencies. Much appreciated and highly valued! Hope to see a fix to the new bug resulting from fixing the last set of bugs soon. The current version tries to connect to facebook immediately after launching the app. Without a facebook account or network connectivity the app perpetually tries to connect and does not time out. This bug drains the iPhone 4 battery very quickly. In settings an option to log off of facebook exists. But no option is provided to prevent or disable this app from trying to connect to facebook upon launch. It just automatically tries and will not stop until you quit the application. Be warned, if you do not want this application to connect to facebook automatically every time it's launched, you will have no choice other than launching the app, quitting it, and re-launching again. To the designers of this app: not everyone wants a facebook account, and with all the security and privacy challenges facebook experiences, not everyone wants their Bible app to automatically connect to facebook without the ability to control this behavior. Recommend either disabling this "buggy feature", providing the default behavior as "not to connect to facebook" without user choice, or provide ability to turn facebook connection off. ### 3/5 — It's Missing 2 Esdras... *2012-06-23* When the King James Translation was published in 1611, it included a list of books under the heading of "Apocrypha". One of these was the Apocalypse of Ezra, otherwise labeled as 2 Esdras (labeled in the Vulgate as 4 Ezra). It is missing from this edition of the King James Apocrypha and it's absence is unacceptable. This book played a large role in history (such as with Columbus) and early 19th century Protestant revivals. For Orthodox, it's also important as either an intrigue or sacred text. Russian and Ethiopian Orthodox both accept the book fully as canonical scripture. Add it to this translation with haste. I require it for my studies and this app is lacking without it. ### 4/5 — Good, but not perfect *2023-10-14* I love the app, but I hate it that when I go to another app and kept this app open at the same time, it goes back to Judges chapter 19. Eveytime. I’m afraid to delete it to reinstall it because I may lose my notes. **Developer response:** Hello! Try out the latest 7.0 release. What we call "state restoration" should be improved! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Really Like this App *2020-10-26* I really like this KJV Bible app. The mixed Bible reading plan provides daily reading from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament. It lists each reading so you can use your printed Bible if you’d rather not read on a device (which is great). It is not calendar specific so you can read as many days as you’d like, and you can start the plan or start a year over whenever you’d like. It keeps track so that you can start your daily reading right where you left off, even if it’s the middle of a day’s reading. Great tool. There are, of course, other tools—some are very helpful—but it’s a pretty straightforward app, which I like. It's very user friendly & has great personal preference choices. The ability to have the Deutero-Canonical OT books included makes it quite friendly for Orthodox Christians who, overall, still adhere mostly to the Authorized Version. It is easy to read, rotates easily from portrait to landscape, easy search ability, opens to place where you stopped reading previously. The books are grouped logically (Wisdom, Gospels, etc.), the chapter lists contain the first two lines of each chapter, and the ability to side swipe from one chapter to another is wonderful. The text doesn't rotate, which is something I would have expected, but the font size is very easy to change from within the application. My favorite part would seem very minor: the text is black but the verse numbers are gray, which makes them less distracting. (The chapter preview text is also gray.) There aren't any footnotes or cross-references but I see this as a plus in this kind of application.
