## What is Verso?

Verso is an offline-first personal book inventory. Track the books you own,
keep a wishlist, and remember the ones you have already passed on.

Standing in a bookshop wondering "do I already have this?" Scan the barcode on the
back cover and get an instant verdict: owned, on your wishlist, already passed on,
or new to you. No more accidental duplicate purchases.

Built to work offline. Your whole library lives on your device. There is no
account, no sign-up, no analytics, and no ads. When you scan or search for a book,
the app looks up its details from public book catalogs (Open Library and Google
Books); nothing else about your library ever leaves your device.

Older and secondhand books often have no barcode that scans. Add them by title
with no ISBN at all, and Verso stores them like any other book.

Verso Pro is an optional one-time unlock, not a subscription. The free app is
complete on its own and stays that way.

  Features:
  - Scan a book's barcode with the camera, or type an ISBN, or search by title.
  - Instant in-store verdict so you never buy a duplicate.
  - Track owned books, a wishlist, and books you have passed on.
  - Mark what you have read and what is still waiting.
  - Your own tags, and filter the shelf by them.
  - Add books with no ISBN, for older and secondhand finds.
  - Sort by title, author surname, series, or when you added it.
  - Fully offline library; works without a connection (lookups need the internet).
  - Export and import your library as JSON or CSV; your data stays yours.
  - No account, no ads, no tracking. Private by design.

  Verso Pro, one time:
  - Collection Insights: what your collection is worth, what you have read against
your to-read pile, and your most collected authors, formats and series.
  - Automatic local backups with one-tap restore.
  - Photo add-by-cover: find or add a book by photographing a cover or a printed
    ISBN, with no barcode needed.
  - The full theme library. The warm, cream and dark themes are always free.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-06

Reliability and quality improvements:

  - Fixed a race condition where editing multiple fields on a book's detail page at the same time could lose one of the changes
  - Backups now validate every row on import instead of silently skipping invalid entries
  - The scanner now correctly identifies an ISBN when multiple barcodes are visible on a book's back cover
  - Improved error feedback across the app when an action fails unexpectedly
  - The first-run backup reminder now stays visible until a backup actually succeeds
  - Various stability and performance fixes

### 1.3.1 — 2026-07-30

Reliability and accessibility fixes across the app.

Books added without an ISBN now survive backup and restore. Custom
cover photos are restored when you undo a removal. The scan screen
shows clear messages when something goes wrong instead of freezing.
Shelf-mode ends with a proper session summary.

Collection Insights no longer clips on small screens. VoiceOver and
TalkBack: status labels read correctly, import results are announced,
and the backup reminder is visible in every theme.

  Faster browsing on large libraries.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-25

Collection Insights, for Verso Pro: see what your collection is worth, what
you have read against what is waiting, and which authors, formats and series
you actually collect.

Your own tags. Label books however you think about them, then filter the shelf
by those labels.

Automatic local backups, for Verso Pro, with one-tap restore. The free export
and import are unchanged and always will be.

A rebuilt book page that leads with whether you have read it, and a single
clear control for whether you own it, want it, or passed on it.

The shelf now leads with your library, with Want, Passed and Previously owned
as views you go to rather than tabs competing for the same space.

Scanning is steadier. A store barcode now points you at the ISBN inside the
cover, quick scan shows progress while details load, and a scan can no longer
attach to the wrong book if you tap while the screen is changing.

Sorting by author now files by surname, so Stephen King sits under K.

Better answers when something goes wrong: screens that fail to load now say so
plainly and offer to try again, instead of showing a raw error.

Many fixes to keep your library intact: covers you set yourself are included in
device backups, collector details are no longer lost when you re-scan a book you
own, imported backups fill in blanks instead of dropping them, and a backup made
by an older version still restores.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-20

Verso is now a full collector's catalog:

- Track where each book lives, who you lent it to, and what you paid (price, date, condition)
- Organize your series, with a report of the volumes you're still missing
- Spot duplicates and books you already own in another edition
- Mark books as previously owned, and check resale values
- Smarter scanning: wishlist-edition alerts, a confirm-the-match option when a scan resolves the wrong book, and adding books with no barcode even while offline
- A refreshed launch screen, plus reliability and backup improvements

Still 100% offline-first, private, and free with no account.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-17
