## What is Verve?

Verve — Cardiorespiratory Fitness & Longevity Tracker

Verve tracks the metric that predicts mortality better than almost any other: your cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in METs, validated against 122,000 patients in the Cleveland Clinic study.

What Verve measures

Weekly MET-hours — the primary output of every fitness session
Zone 2 minutes — the aerobic work that moves your CRF
Strength training minutes — independently linked to 23% lower all-cause mortality (UK Biobank, 70,000+)
Daily step count and cadence
CRF performance tier vs your age and sex (Cleveland Clinic / ACSM norms)
Resting heart rate trend
Metabolic health markers: glucose, blood pressure (28-day avg from Apple Health), triglycerides, HDL, waist
Muscle health: grip strength, body fat %, skeletal muscle %, FFMI
AI Coach
Every month, your AI Coach synthesises your activity, body composition, and CRF history into a two-sentence narrative and one focused recommendation — telling you what you achieved and exactly what to do next.

CRF Testing — 6 clinical methods
Manual entry · Bruce Protocol · 6-Minute Walk · HR Ratio (Uth-Sørensen) · Wearable VO₂Max import · Treadmill test

Apple Health integration
Syncs workouts, resting HR, VO₂Max, weight, steps, and now blood pressure from any wearable connected to Apple Health. Background movement estimated via Nakanishi (2021) model.

Not a medical device. Not FDA approved. Not medical advice.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.3 — 2026-08-18

• YOUR MINUTES STOP MOVING. Your Zone 2 range is calculated from your resting heart rate, which Apple Health recalculates as it learns more about you. When it shifted, every past workout was quietly re-measured against the new range — so Monday's 40 minutes could read 39 on Tuesday. Each session is now scored against the range that applied when you did it. A finished day is finished.
• Background movement is no longer recalculated for days that have ended, and a workout's heart-rate detail is recorded once rather than replaced on every sync.

The weekly climb, renamed and extended:
• BASE CAMP (150 min) · your goal · HIGH CAMP (300 min) · SUMMIT (610 min).
• The summit is new. Research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (2026) followed 17,088 people wearing activity trackers: 560–610 minutes a week was associated with over 30% lower risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure and atrial fibrillation — against 8–9% at the familiar 150. It appears once you pass high camp, so a typical week still fills the chart.
• The lines no longer carry organisation names, because those published targets count vigorous activity twice and Verve counts your minutes as measured. Same numbers, honestly labelled.

Clearer throughout:
• The card is now "Aerobic Activity This Week" — which is all it ever showed.
• Tap ⓘ for one panel with this week's breakdown at the top and the explanations folded beneath, instead of a long scroll that pushed the card off screen.
• Weekly figures read in minutes and monthly in hours, so the Trends tab agrees with the Activity tab.
• NEW SETTING — Activity Units. Choose minutes or MET-hours. It existed but was unreachable; now it's in Settings and applies across Trends.

Also:
• Two years of Apple Health history imported on first sync, up from three months, with heart-rate detail filled in for the whole of it.
• Training by Year — a full breakdown of volume and intensity per year.
• Password reset works. The link previously opened the app on a "page not found" screen, leaving no way back into an account.
• Distance and calories on the Expedition Ledger now say they cover your whole day, not just your workouts.

### 1.5.2 — 2026-08-10

Heart Health is entirely new: ApoB, LDL-C, Lp(a) and hs-CRP with cited screening bands, Lp(a) classified in the unit you entered, and hs-CRP above 10 mg/L flagged for re-test rather than reported as risk.

Body page capture was reworked from panel-editing to per-marker logging — the change that fixes the copy-forward bug where adding today's triglycerides re-dated last month's glucose. Worth fixing before Phase 2 draws trend lines over those points.

Post-meal glucose and HOMA-IR joined Metabolic Health, using the ADA self-monitoring target rather than the diagnostic OGTT bands.

The Grade and resting-HR baselines landed on Trends.

Strength stopped counting as aerobic intensity, and Flags to Watch grew from four body-composition markers to fourteen.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-07-22

Verve 1.5.1

Accuracy fix for your weekly activity numbers.

Your moderate and vigorous minutes — and Zone 2 — now come from your actual heart rate throughout a workout, not just its average. A run that starts easy, settles into Zone 2, and finishes hard now counts each portion correctly, instead of the whole session being labelled by one number. Zone 2 also now shows every aerobic session of your week, with a below/in/above-zone breakdown for each.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-07-17

Your fitness, redrawn. Verve now has a design language all its own:

• THE WEEKLY ASCENT — your week as a climb. The line rises with every moderate+vigorous minute, plateaus on rest days, and plants a flag the moment you cross WHO 150, your personal goal, or the AHA 300 summit.
• SLOPELINES — 12-week trends as angled then→now lines: steeper = bigger change, colour = better or worse, goal dot on today. Biggest movers sort to the top.
• DAY TERRAIN — your day as a mountain profile in Movement Balance: every hour's steps become elevation, long sits show as flat canyons.
• Flags everywhere — every goal and target you hit plants a pennant. Progress rings are gone; flags climb poles instead.

Smarter, more honest numbers:
• Your weekly goal now counts actual moderate + vigorous minutes (WHO definition), with a full light/moderate/vigorous intensity bar and a tap-through that shows exactly what counts, what doesn't, and the MET-hours behind it.
• Every strength and Zone 2 session now shows its own MET-hours — you're using a MET tracker, after all.
• Zone 2 now counts only deliberate aerobic training — background movement and lifting no longer inflate it.
• The 12-week CRF trend now knows when a change is a test-method difference (walk test vs maximal run) or a held-back effort — and says so instead of reporting a false decline.

CRF, deeper:
• Full-width CRF card with a Low→Elite position gauge for your age and sex, distance to your next tier, and the test + date behind the number.
• Edit any past test with its real inputs — Cooper metres, 1.5-mile time, walk time + heart rate — and tag how hard you pushed.
• New test methods: CPET (gold standard) and the 1-mile walk (Rockport).
• Safety first: blood-pressure and health-screen gates before all-out field tests.

Body page, cleaner:
• Metabolic Health entry is now step-by-step cards with live in-range chips, matching Muscle Health.
• Collapsible sections, clearer screening language, and health-context notes where results appear.

Notifications, fewer and truer:
• One Monday summary of your completed week, one reminder when a re-test is due (CRF every 6 weeks, body check-in every 8). The stale daily nudge is gone.

Also: daily steps coloured by benefit tier, cadence zones always visible, a Free vs Pro comparison in Settings, Field Notes (our AI coach, renamed), the Expedition Ledger, in-app medical disclaimers where results appear, and a long list of accuracy fixes.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-06-04

Version 1.4.0 — AI Coach, Blood Pressure & Body Health

AI Coach — redesigned for clarity
Your AI Coach now surfaces exactly two things: what you achieved this week (strength streak, CRF improvement) and one focused recommendation — no repetition, no walls of text. The weekly narrative uses precise numbers ("8.5 METs" instead of prose), and your body health data is now incorporated into every recommendation.

Blood pressure from Apple Health
The Metabolic Health card can now pull your 28-day blood pressure average directly from Apple Health — a clinically superior measure compared to a single reading. Systolic and diastolic fields auto-fill with the average from up to 50 readings.

Body health history
Prior metabolic and muscle health entries are now consolidated by date in the Trends page — one expandable card per day showing both markers side by side, with edit and delete controls.

Fitness Snapshot
Collapsed by default to reduce scroll. Expanding it reveals your activity and body paragraphs, milestone achievement, and AI-powered Improving / Lagging / On Track labels.

Monthly AI allowance
Free users now get 3 AI Coach uses per rolling 30 days instead of a 3-use lifetime cap.

Fixes
Zone 2 always displayed in minutes. Weekly notification now shows accurate MET-hours including background activity. CRF chart bands correctly anchored at zero. 27 architecture-level bug fixes.
