## What is Very al Dente?

Recipes from anywhere, all in one place. Save your own, or take one of ours.

Save a recipe from anywhere: TikTok, Instagram, a cookbook. Get it back ready to cook.

Or don't bring one at all. The Explore tab has recipes chosen by hand, from published cookbooks and independent cooks.

Very al Dente takes what you saved and turns it into one recipe you can cook from, the same way every time.

• Save from anywhere: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, a blog, or a photo of a cookbook page
• Recipes chosen by hand. The Explore tab has a different selection every day, from cookbooks and independent cooks.
• Cookbook recipes, without the cookbook. Recipes from published books, with a link to find the book itself.
• A video becomes a recipe. The ingredients and steps, written out.
• No flipping back to the ingredient list. Everything you need, right where you cook.
• Cook for six or four, in cups or grams. Change the servings and the amounts change with them.
• Nothing left unexplained. Tap any ingredient or tool to see what it is and what to use instead.
• Reads in your language. English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish and Italian, with translation between them.
• One tap starts the timer. Know how long you wait, and what to look for.
• Know what you need before you start. Every pan, bowl and tool the recipe calls for, listed up front.
• A shopping list from any recipe. Check what you need and it lands in Reminders.
• See which recipes need an overnight marinade before you commit to one.
• Nothing to file. No folders, no tags. Find a recipe by ingredient, by cuisine, or by how long it takes.
• Everything you've saved works offline.
• No account, no sign-up, no subscription. Nothing to unlock.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-09-01

Explore

A second tab beside your library, with recipes picked by hand and changed through the week. Adding one takes a tap and none of the usual wait. Swipe or use the pill at the bottom to move between the two.

Recipes open faster

Opening a recipe used to catch for a moment, longer ones worst of all. That's gone.

From the book

A recipe that came out of a cookbook now credits it, and the cover opens if you tap it.

Smaller things

Units are back in Settings. There's a weekly reminder you can switch on. French speaks as tu throughout, the way the rest of the app always did. Photos from your camera roll appear straight away when you're adding one.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-24

Opening the app for the first time now starts you off with a few recipes, so you are not looking at an empty library.

The recipe page is now two tabs: Overview to read it, Cook to work from it.

Adding a recipe has a clearer screen, and Pinterest links parse again.

Recipes that never said how long they take now carry an estimate, and a notification tells you when one has finished parsing.

Fixed: quantities losing a fraction when you switch between cups and grams, glossary sheets opening empty, and the app being shut down by iOS partway through a recipe.

### 1.0 — 2026-08-19
