## What is Veyrn?

Veyrn is a native task manager for Mac, iPhone, and Apple Watch that connects to your own Vikunja instance — self-hosted or Vikunja Cloud.

It requires a Vikunja server and an API token. Veyrn has no account and no backend of its own: your tasks live on your server and go nowhere else. Works with any Vikunja 2.x instance, and uses the faster v2 API automatically on 2.4.0 and later.

QUICK ADD, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE
Type "Pay rent tomorrow +Ho *bi !2" and Veyrn works out the date, project (Home), label (bills), and priority as you type. Recurrence too — "every week", "every 2 months". On the Mac, a global hotkey opens Quick Add from anywhere. On iPhone, Home Screen Quick Actions jump straight to a new task. Got a long list somewhere else? Paste or drag in a plain-text file and import it all at once.

ORGANIZED THE WAY YOU ALREADY THINK
Inbox, Scheduled, Logbook, and Projects in a familiar sidebar. Subtasks with an inline checklist and progress badge. Rich text notes with bold, italic, links, and bullets. Project and label colors carried through the whole interface.

WIDGETS EVERYWHERE
Upcoming tasks grouped by date on the Mac and iPhone Home Screen, plus Lock Screen and StandBy widgets. Check things off without opening the app.

ON YOUR WRIST
An Apple Watch app with Scheduled and Inbox views, tap to complete, and Quick Add by dictation or Scribble. Complications and a Smart Stack widget keep the next thing in front of you.

KEEPS WORKING WHEN YOUR CONNECTION DOESN'T
Changes you make offline are queued and sent as soon as you're back. Reminders sync to your notification center.

BUILT FOR REAL SETUPS
Up to five Vikunja accounts — the same server or different ones — switched from Settings. API tokens are stored in the system Keychain and shared securely between the app, its widgets, and the Watch.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
Veyrn talks only to the server you point it at. If you send a bug report, the optional diagnostic log never contains your hostnames, tokens, or task content, and you can read the whole thing before it sends. Anonymous usage analytics are on by default and can be switched off in Settings.

Not affiliated with Vikunja in any way. This is just how I like to work with my tasks, and I thought others might like it too.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.2 — 2026-08-27

Veyrn 3.2 — your lists, in your order.

• Choose how tasks are ordered inside each day: alphabetically (as before), by priority, or grouped by project.
• Sorting by project? Pick whether the tasks inside each project run by priority or alphabetically.
• Put tasks with no due date at the top of a list instead of the bottom.
• iPhone: choose which page Veyrn opens to — the main list, Scheduled, a specific project, or right where you left off. It goes there every time you open the app, not just the first time.
• Account names can now be up to 32 characters, so "Personal Production" fits where "Personal P" used to.

A better widget
• The medium widget fits more of your day.
• When today's tasks don't all fit, you can page forward and back to see the rest.
• Widget rows now show priority and whether a reminder is set. (Task rows in the app show reminders too.)
• A new Refresh Widget option updates the widget before its next scheduled update.
• NOTE: The small widget is retired. It will disappear when you update.

Other updates
• New Task is now available from inside Inbox and inside any project, not only from the main list — and a task you add while viewing a project starts out in that project.
• Inbox, Scheduled and projects share one toolbar, so Refresh and Refresh Widget are in the same place wherever you are.
• Fixed: if your Vikunja API token is missing a permission, edits are no longer quietly thrown away. Veyrn holds on to them, tells you what's wrong, and sends them the moment the token is fixed.

### 3.0 — 2026-08-12

Veyrn 3.0 brings support for Vikunja's v2 API.

NEW
• Vikunja API v2 support. On servers running Vikunja 2.4.0 or later, Veyrn now uses the v2 API throughout, fetching your entire task list in one request instead of one request per project. Refreshes are noticeably quicker, especially if you have a lot of projects. Older servers continue on v1 automatically — there's nothing to set up.
• Bulk import now creates your tasks in a single request on Vikunja 2.5.0 and later, so pasting in a long list finishes much faster.
• Devices now let each other know when something changes, via your own private iCloud — not Veyrn's server. Complete a task on your iPhone and your Mac picks it up within seconds instead of waiting for its next scheduled refresh. Nothing to set up; works exactly as before if you're signed out of iCloud.

FIXED
• Rich text notes no longer lose their formatting when you open and save a task.
• Fixed a crash when tapping Complete on a reminder notification.
• A brief server hiccup during an automatic background refresh no longer interrupts you with an error. Your task list stays on screen and Veyrn quietly retries.
• A reminder no longer fires for a task you already completed on another device, checked at the moment the notification would appear.

### 2.8 — 2026-08-06

Multiple accounts — switch between Vikunja logins

• Veyrn now holds up to 5 accounts and switches between them from Settings. Handy if you keep personal and work tasks on separate logins (same server or different ones — both work).
• Your existing setup carries over automatically. You'll see one account already there, named after your server, and you won't need to re-enter your API token.
• Veyrn stays one account at a time: the task lists, widgets, the Watch app, and reminders all follow whichever account is active.

Notes fixes

• Task notes now use the app's font.
• Formatting no longer disappears when you save.
• Notes you don't edit are now left exactly as they are.
• Known issue: images embedded in a task's notes are lost if you edit that note in Veyrn. Notes you don't edit are unaffected.

Report a bug without leaving the app

• Settings now has a Report a Bug button. It opens an email to me, and you can choose whether to attach a diagnostic log of what the app was doing.
• The log never includes your server address, your API token, or anything about your tasks — no titles, projects, labels, or dates. You can read the whole thing before sending, and nothing leaves your device unless you send it.

Steadier syncing

• Refreshes are faster and fail less often on slow or busy networks. If your server is Vikunja 2.4 or newer, Veyrn now uses Vikunja's newer API to load your whole task list at once instead of asking about each project separately — that's most of the improvement. Older servers keep working exactly as before.
• No more "request timed out" alert when opening the app before Wi-Fi or a VPN has settled
• Error messages now explain what went wrong and what to do about it, instead of showing raw technical text

Also in this release

• API tokens now live in the system Keychain instead of app storage
• The Settings window finally has a Done button

### 2.7.3 — 2026-07-24

Set reminders directly from Quick Add when creating a task.

### 2.7.2 — 2026-07-13

FiXED: Completing or deleting tasks with reminders ahead of the reminder day/time also deletes the reminder.
