Disappointing. ### 4/5 — slightly disappointed by the update *2017-05-29, version 3.55* Whilst it is 'technically accurate' I found the claim that "It is now possible to select an external microphone as a data source" rather misleading. In fact, it appears that the in-App purchase [at a cost of £14.99] serves to only "Enable full Digiducer functionality". The Digiducer itself is an excellent, but not inexpensive device, and I would have been MUCH happier if the option was available to use ANY external USB microphone for qualitative work. That said; the App remains excellent !! . . Note: I have already twice attempted to submit this review, but neither has appeared ... Even motors straight out of the box won't be balanced as good as you can get if you use this app. ### 5/5 — A BSR/NVH engineer's must-have *2012-08-05, version 1.68* Anyone needing to characterize noise, here is the perfect app to get. There are many ways to use this cool "tool". I used it as a stopwatch by setting it up to trigger from z-axis motion, since my challenge was to time movement occuring in less than a second. This app lets one record the noise AND measure the vibration, or other movements, to give variable data to an otherwise subjective claim about what is heard. It can easily capture and email all the information: audible, graphical and g-force data.Other uses include getting data for performance of vehicle cornering, machine operation, and playng music. I let many of our automotive engineers know about this. ### 5/5 — Excellent *2012-05-31, version 1.68* Have used this app to assist with vibration dampening on a RC Quadcopter carrying video equipment. Prior to testing the individual arms of the model I was getting a fair amount of vibration with the video footage. Using the Iphone and this app I have been able to balance the motors very precisely resulting in exceptionally smooth video. The money I have spent on camera gimbals etc has been a fortune, this App would have saved a fortune as it as highlighted some major imbalances in the motors which no gimble could have dampened. Wish I had discovered this earlier, now have two multicopter platforms producing very smooth raw footage. Замечательно! ### 5/5 — Excellent app *2012-04-15, version 1.68* Does a very good job of capturing short term vibrations so they can be compared for diagnostic purposes. I intend on using it for server preventative maintenance to compare vibration levels over time to see if we can pick up issues with drives and fans before the fail completely. I guess it could also be used on engines to check for changes to rotating parts and bearings that could indicate problems. It'll take a while to see if it's suitable for those applications, but it'll be fun checking it out. One nice feature is sending the sample out by email, it does a date and time stamp in the subject line and you can add your own notes. It sends the data in a csv file that can be used for comparison with previous samples. A clean way to get data quickly off the phone and where you can use it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Application Receipt Not Valid *2015-11-27, version 3.05* When I try to use this, it says "Application Receipt Not Valid" and refuses to work. I think this constitutes fraud- it is a complete and utter RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF !!!!!!!!! ### 1/5 — Bad *2015-09-19, version 3.04* Apps should never ask for AppleID password ### 1/5 — Unable to load saved data *2015-05-08, version 2.21* I have taken many measurements and saved them properly. When I go to load my data, there is nothing there. I reported this problem yesterday and have had no reply from them. Feel like I was ripped off of $5 that I paid. Randomly cut recordings short after a few seconds then locked up and tried to text the data file, at which the cancel button greyed out. Documentation looks like freeware from 1998. ### 3/5 — Mostly good, but possibly flawed *2017-10-09, version 3.55* I was impressed to find such a technically advanced app. However when I use the microphone input on an iPhone, the sound frequencies appear to be represented in the spectrum view at twice their actual frequency. I haven't put it on the bench yet, but when I calibrate a whistle or sing tone with another app, the Cleartune app, the tones are represented in this Vibration app at twice the frequency registered in the Cleartune app. I have used the Cleartune app to practice various pieces of music and it seems spot on. ### 3/5 — Calibration issues *2014-04-22, version 2.11* The program seems to work ok but the calibration crashes and ends the program. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Simple and effective *2020-11-28, version 3.91* I’ve used this for several years to collect vibration signals from vehicles and trickier s for research purposes. It’s easy to use and I recommend to my students. ### 5/5 — Brilliant app *2018-02-25, version 3.60* Does exactly what it claims to, measures vibration up to 50Hz. Lots of control regarding sampling rate, time and delay. Files can be saved and exported as CSV. Spectrum analysis could use some more labels but nevertheless very good app. ### 5/5 — Solid App *2017-12-22, version 3.60* Bought this app over 5 years ago because the vibration sensor we were using in the lab wasn’t quite working for our need. We wanted to know the vibration noise source for a piece of equipment we were designing. With this app, we were able to determine the peak frequencies, and therefore the source of our noise. Impressed the whole team with the fact that it was an iPhone that solved the mystery. In the past it was vibrations, and now with the microphone added as a source, sound. Use it on both the iPad and iPhone. ### 5/5 — Nicely done *2014-08-05, version 2.21* Very solid work around this implementation that provides useful data capture from the iPhone accelerometers in all three axes, as well as the gyroscopic sensors (though to a slightly lesser extent). Data is portable, GUI is flexible, acquisition parameters adjustable. Kudos to dev for continued refinement. Very fairly priced. ### 5/5 — This App turns your iPhone into a $2,500+ piece of scientific equipment *2014-02-24, version 2.10* This is a wonderful scientific app that specifically shows how powerful an instrument that most people never realize they carry in their pockets. I've used this app to conduct a limited vibration analysis of an apartment that complained about vibrations caused by newly installed chiller pumps in the building. I'm amazed at how sensitive the internal accelerometer is on the iPhone 5. I was able to detect vibrations creating a surface delta of 0.02 mm/s @ 5KHz.
