## What is Video Freezer?

Every video on your phone is thousands of photos you can't see yet. Video Freezer is a free app that lets you reach in and grab any one of them at the video's full resolution, not a phone-screen screenshot.

Pick a video. Slide along the filmstrip to find the moment. Nudge a single frame at a time, or jump a second back and forth, until you've got the exact face, the exact stride, the exact splash. Tap Grab Still and Video Freezer pulls the real frame from the video file (a 4K video gives you a 4K photo), then saves it to your library or share sheet.

Need the whole sequence, not just one frame? Switch to Range mode: mark a start and an end, and Video Freezer saves every frame in between at full resolution — or every 2nd, 5th, or 10th to thin out longer spans. Preview the captured series frame by frame, choose your format, and save the whole set to your album at once. Perfect when the keeper is somewhere in a fast moment and you don't want to miss it.

Great for:
• The action shot you missed because still photos always fire a split-second late
• The candid laugh, the perfect blink, the moment between two photos
• Pets and kids, who move faster than your shutter
• Sports highlights, stunts, dancing
• Capturing an entire sequence — a swing, a jump, a splash — and picking the best frame later
• Pulling stills out of slow-motion clips at their real resolution

What you get:
• Full-resolution capture, so a 4K video gives you a 4K photo
• Grab a single frame, or a whole range of frames at once with Range mode
• Step one frame at a time, or jump a second back and forth
• Choose HEIC, PNG, or JPEG when you save
• Saves to its own "Video Freezer" album, or share straight from the app
• Originals stay untouched. Your video is never re-encoded or modified
• Everything runs on your device, with no upload and no login

Free to download — no subscription, no account.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2026-08-20*

Did exactly what I needed it too and had many extras.

### 1/5 — Too long

*2026-07-24*

It takes too long to load/think after choosing video

**Developer response:** We've made a lot of UX updates since then - and happy to figure out what was your specific issue!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-25

Minor bug fixes and accessibility improvements.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-20

Picking a video now shows that it is working instead of leaving you on a blank screen, and the editor opens faster.

Minor bug fixes and accessibility improvements.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-19

Grab a whole range of frames from an HDR video — in HDR.

Pulling a range off an HDR clip used to hand back tone-mapped 8-bit stills with no way to ask for anything else. Now the format picker offers HEIC (HDR) and starts there, so a range keeps the same colour and highlights as the single-frame grab already did.

The editor has been redesigned, too:

- Every control is now a round disc — the transport buttons, Set Start and Set End, and the zoom pair beside the filmstrip. They sit together as one row instead of three different button shapes.
- The transport row fits the screen again, so the editor no longer overflows on smaller phones.
- The filmstrip shows a spinner while its thumbnails are still coming, and quietly tries again instead of leaving you with a blank strip.
- The playhead is outlined so it stays visible against a light filmstrip.
- The result screen gets out of the way — the still you just grabbed is the first thing you see.

### 1.1.13 — 2026-08-14

- Range mode now opens on a real one-second span, so the selection you're about to export is visible from the start instead of a single frame.
- Set Start and Set End have their own labelled row — they're no longer two anonymous discs among the steppers.
- Your filmstrip zoom and position now survive grabbing a still. Coming back from a still or a range preview returns you where you were, instead of resetting the strip.
- The step buttons now dim at the start and end of a clip, rather than looking tappable and doing nothing.
- The picture sits on a cleaner, cased edge on the still and range screens, and the Range labels are easier to read in light mode.

### 1.1.12 — 2026-08-11

Minor bug fixes and accessibility improvements.
