## What is Vidi?

Vidi turns the media on your home NAS into a library you actually want to open.

Point it at your network and it finds your SMB servers by itself, discovers their shares, and builds an organized library of movies—with artwork, seasons and episodes—, TV shows, home videos and photos.

A REAL LIBRARY, NOT A FILE LIST
• Automatic discovery — Vidi finds the SMB servers on your network automatically
• Movies, TV shows and home videos organized with posters, seasons and episodes
• Every photo on your NAS at your fingertips in a beautiful library
• Search the whole library with thumbnails and grouped results
• Plain folder browsing is always there when you want the file list instead

BUILT FOR SPEED
• Indexing starts immediately and stays up-to-date automatically
• Speedy tapping through pictures and videos
• Re-crawls only touch what actually changed on the NAS
• Folder browsing stays quick on shares with thousands of files

PLAYS WHAT YOUR NAS ACTUALLY HOLDS
• MKV, HEVC and codecs Apple's own player refuses — no transcoding server required
• Video starts almost immediately, and an MKV starts as promptly as an MP4
• Vidi reads ahead of the playhead, so scrubbing through material is super fast
• A-B loop, pinch zoom and pan during playback
• Continue Watching remembers where you stopped, across the library

PHOTOS IN FULL
• Full-screen viewer with pinch zoom, quick zoom, swipe and a filmstrip
• EXIF details: camera, lens, aperture, shutter, ISO, dimensions, file size and a location map
• HEIC and RAW sit alongside everything else

OFFLINE
• Download a movie, episode or home video and play it with the NAS switched off
• Downloads queue, resume after interruptions, and survive a relaunch
• Live Activity progress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
• Read-only: Vidi never writes to, moves, renames or deletes anything on your NAS
• No account and no sign-in
• No tracking, no advertising identifier, no ad networks
• Server credentials are stored in the device Keychain and never logged

WORKS WITH
Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, Unraid, Windows shares, Linux Samba — any SMB server on your network.

Vidi is free, with no in-app purchases.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 4.0.1 — 2026-09-09

This is a stability update.

• Fixes a bug that could make Vidi quit unexpectedly while browsing or playing, especially over a slower network
• Thumbnails are read far more efficiently, so browsing puts much less load on your NAS and on your device

### 4.0.0 — 2026-09-02

Vidi 4.0 is a complete rebuild of the app, from the ground up.

• A library that organizes movies, TV shows, home videos and photos automatically, with artwork, seasons and episodes
• A far faster crawler — your shares are indexed while you are still reading the welcome screens, and a re-crawl only touches what changed
• Thumbnails load ahead of your scrolling
• Rebuilt player: MKV and non-Apple codecs start as promptly as an MP4, and seeking is instant in material Vidi already holds
• Offline downloads, with Lock Screen progress and resume after interruptions
• A photo viewer with pinch and quick zoom, a filmstrip, and full EXIF including a location map
• Full-library search on its own tab, with thumbnails
• A redesigned interface for iPhone and iPad

Please note: this version is for iPhone and iPad. Face ID locking and iCloud sync are not part of this release.
