### 4/5 — Good

*2024-01-21, version 2.1.1*

Needs no time limits

### 4/5 — Great game

*2023-08-05, version 2.1.1*

I wish there was a way to remove the time limit and prevent it from automatically making a move for you if the time runs out

### 5/5 — Very well made

*2023-06-24, version 2.1.1*

This app allows you to play every version of Hnefatafl that I have ever seen along with some I haven’t. The animations and graphics are better than I could have asked for. Learn to play this game and you will enjoy it.

### 5/5 — Hnefatafl

*2021-12-11, version 2.1.1*

Where is the “I resign” button? I have made a mistake and wish to terminate this current game and start anew.

### 5/5 — Great game

*2021-10-31, version 2.1.1*

This app is really well done and a lot of fun. If it added other variants and ranked play online this app would be the place to go for all things tafl

### 5/5 — Great game!!!!!

*2021-05-04, version 2.0.6*

Amazing game with great graphics, easy to use interface, great gameplay that can be both challenging and simple, I’d recommend this to anyone. One thing I wish that they would add is different boards and variations of playing because there are lots more Tafl games out there all with the same rules just different setups and different boards. Other than that five stars!!!

### 5/5 — What a great new way to play an ancient game!

*2021-02-28, version 2.0.2*

This is a really good version of the game, the “vs CPU” was a great opponent and really taught me the way to play the game. Recently however when I select the “vs CPU” After playing for a while my game is wiped and an online player joins with a new game. I do not want to play online so, until this is fixed, I will stop playing the game. Which is a real shame as this is a really good AI and makes the game challenges.

Update: since the patch fix this game works great. What nice improvement to the AI as well. Well Done, this is how you support your customers.

### 5/5 — Remove the Ads

*2020-10-16, version 1.2.1*

Add a method to pay to remove the ads.

Great game.

### 5/5 — Great game with nice graphics

*2020-10-08, version 1.2.0*

I like being able to adjust the view. Looking forward to more people for online

### 5/5 — Good game

*2020-09-30, version 1.2.0*

Fun game to learn and the computer at +5, like to see it increase, is pretty challenging. Needs more players and the ones that show up shouldn’t be quitting after just three moves... kind of disheartening when you wait an hour to connect up...

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Dumb board movement design!

*2025-05-25, version 10.1.4*

The center of the board is the axis of rotation! Dumb, real dump. Are you 12 years old or something?! So no matter what you do, the center of the board is ALWAYS in the middle. Deleted.

### 1/5 — Paid to removed ads, ads still there

*2025-02-21, version 10.1.4*

I paid to remove ads, the ads didn't go away. I selected restore purchase, nothing happened. I requested a refund. Refund denied. Really great system, super awesome. Really really great. 10/10

### 1/5 — Could be fun

*2023-06-29, version 2.1.1*

This game could be fun if the game controls weren’t so poor. Zoom in and out steps bad and game selects wrong pawns which really screws up game play

### 1/5 — Really bad!

*2021-01-15, version 1.2.2*

No control over the settings. Game changes them if it wants. Want to play CPU? Tough you will be given a random opponent. There’s a better app already available.

### 3/5 — Some of the rules are not right

*2025-02-17, version 10.1.4*

The king can not attack, but in the game he can. If a normal piece is in between the wall and a piece, it is eliminated, but not in the game. But the game is still fun.

### 3/5 — Annoying Override

*2024-04-27, version 10.0.10*

I was enjoying this app until it would kick me out of my game against the computer and force me to play against a human opponent. Why???? I clearly have “CPU” marked as my opponent. Please fix this!! It is absolutely infuriating. It has happened as soon as right after my first move as well as at any point in the game with no way to exit or decline this forced match.
The only other thing that could be improved is that sometimes, even in intermediate mode, it is way too easy to win with the computer missing extremely obvious moves that even a beginner would catch. Fix these issues and I’ll change this review to 5 stars.

### 3/5 — Incorrect rule application

*2023-06-20*

As the king, I was counted as captured when on the edge of the board and directly adjacent to a corner refuge square when black had only two pieces adjacent to me. A pawn would have been captured, but the king could freely move into the corner and win.

### 3/5 — Good game, but...

*2020-11-26, version 1.2.2*

I’m brand new to this game and while trying to learn by playing against the cpu I kept having the game start over when a “rival” entered. Then it put a timer on the moves.

### 4/5 — A Splendid Review!

*2026-07-10, version 10.1.4*

For quite a bit of the Viking chess games this has to be the most polished one.

### 4/5 — Fun game

*2025-05-28, version 10.1.4*

I like this game and love playing it online, though I would like for there to be an option for the 9x9 board too instead of just the 11x11 and 7x7 boards.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Coding

*2026-08-08, version 10.1.4*

Get this guy a contract. As a board game designer who has a game being digitized, this is a testament to true skill in code. Great game here!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-05-31, version 10.1.4*

Really fun to play

### 5/5 — Challenging Game

*2025-11-06, version 10.1.4*

First game victory - great concept - enjoyed the game more than standard Persian chess

### 5/5 — Computer Player needs some work on 3rd difficulty

*2025-07-20, version 10.1.4*

I found a feedback loop where the king just kept jumping from one side of the board to the other because it had me in a position where if I didn’t defend it could win. It wouldn’t make another move, just aggressively tried to push the corner even if it lead to no new moves. Seems like an easy fix, just add a code limiter to seek new moves if stalemate occurs. I can tell the developers actually care and do update the game because some of the reviews have been corrected already. Other than this, it seems great. Thanks for the hard work

### 5/5 — Fun

*2025-05-28, version 10.1.4*

Viking fun

### 5/5 — Fun

*2025-05-28, version 10.1.4*

Easy to play, bots are kinda stoopid, would be nice to have alternative game board designs

### 5/5 — Fun

*2024-12-26, version 10.1.4*

Slot of fun and better than solitaire

### 5/5 — Outstanding!!!

*2024-08-12, version 10.1.4*

Easy rules, simple movements but the strategy possibilities are limitless!! And the game play is fun and intricate, overall a great fun game of strategy that will make you think and have fun at the same time. Download it, you’ll have fun and with a glass of mead you’ll be ready for Ragnarok in no time !!

### 5/5 — Rules are incomplete which leads to frustration

*2023-07-12, version 2.1.1*

Rules are incomplete and the “examples” Of the few that are “shown” are blank on iOS. For example: the King cannot initiate capture of opposing pieces as he is considered unarmed. The throne cannot be reentered but can be used as a space to capture against even for the King. How does the king escape and win? It doesn’t tell us?! Please list all rules with picture examples.

### 5/5 — Rules

*2023-07-08, version 2.1.1*

Could you please review the rules and make them clear within the app. The standard rules as used with the very popular Viking game edition allow you to take pieces by sandwiching the apposition piece against the corner kings square. This version only allows this when it’s a double take which is confusing. Also defending pieces can move through the kings square where as opposition pieces cannot. Other than that it’s a good app
