Desperately needs more features *2019-03-27, version 1.2* I wanted to be able to control my driveway entrance and exit gates via my iPhone. So I had the devices installed and got this app. BUT the app only opens and closes the gates - u cannot (1) open the gate and have it stay open, or (2) close the gate if u have left it open via ground line phone. Those two points are the primary reason I wanted the device and app! I want to be able to have the gates stay open AND I need to be able to close the gates remotely if for some reason someone has left them open. Basically this is fairly useless now. PLEASE ADD THE ABILITY TO (1) open the gates and have them stay open, AND (2) be able to close the gates via app if the gates were left open by ground line phone code. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Connection issues *2025-02-13, version 1.2* This app is terrible. The notifications just pick and choose when to work and every so often you have to delete and reinstall the app just to make it connect and work. Love standing out in the snow and seeing the spinning wheel of death as you’re trying to open your gate. I chose Viking brand because of the motor quality based on installer feedback . The controllers the gate comes with has terrible range. So I opted for the app based entry. So far the app works for me to open the gate for service people on my property. Connects instantly and no delay on the app to gate. I am new to it and I see other peoples frustration about getting notifications. But that’s why I have cameras with sensors. I don’t use the gate tech for more than what it is… a gate. ### 5/5 — The future is here *2022-10-01, version 1.2* I had the Viking installed by my local drivegate company for $160 and it has been worth every penny . Being able to monitor the status of the drive gate as well as remotely control it is a game changer. Don’t believe in the one star rating . They didn’t set it up correctly or their Wifi signal is too weak to reach the drivegate . I installed a Wifi mesh extender in the garage and has zero issue . ### 5/5 — Wow It Just Works *2019-11-10, version 1.2* Don’t write many reviews but this one is deserved. It just works. Was skeptical about the Monitor attachment being enclosed in metal control box but no issues with WiFi from 100+ feet (I do own a decent router). Great UX, notifications, cloud connectivity is nearly instant. Just amazing. Their cloud backend is rock solid. All in all well worth the amount paid for the Monitor attachment with the app being free. Only feedback for Viking is to keep up the good work and explore possibility of connecting with other smart home platforms. Would also like to see 2fa implemented to buttress security. ### 4/5 — Does mostly what it’s designed to do. Could do more. *2025-04-22, version 1.2* Installation was easy, but needed Viking Support to help with orientation of the connector. Once installed, it worked great. You can open and close the gate remotely and see the Opened/Closed/Opening/Closing status wherever you are. I was not able to get notifications working, either pops on my phone or email. I would like smart home integration with Alexa / Google home. This would support both control (e.g. “Open the gate”) and announcements (e.g. “The gate is [opening, closing, blocked, etc.]”. ### 4/5 — Needs a fix *2023-08-14, version 1.2* When I open the app I’d like it to go right to the screen to open and close the gate. For 99% of users that’s the screen we want. It would be nice if this app was HomeKit or Siri Shortcuts compatible though. All of a sudden I stopped getting notifications on my phone of when the gate would open and close. Thought maybe the app was deleted but wasn’t. Don’t use app unless I’m not able to use my gate openers in the cars or inside house. The app wasn’t working in January at all so I deleted the app and installed it again. It works now but WHY DON’T I GET NOTIFICATIONS WHEN THE ACTION OF THE GATE OPENING AND CLOSING HAPPENS. Getting it hours later isn’t very effective.
