### 1/5 — To track or not to track …

*2026-09-10*

App Store blurb says:

“PRIVACY-FIRST BY DESIGN
• 100% offline. No accounts. No sign-up. No cloud.
• No analytics. No tracking. No third-party SDKs phoning home.
• Your notes live in a local SQLite database on your device and nowhere else.
• No network permission requested — the app physically cannot exfiltrate your data.”

“VimNotes is free of ads, trackers, telemetry, and subscriptions. One app, one purpose: let you write the way you already think.”

But the App Privacy label says:

“𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂
The following data may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies:
    Identifiers, Usage Data”

(The App Privacy label is consistent with the developer’s linked privacy policy.)

Both claims were submitted to the App Store by the developer.

Which one is true?

I would hope that the current App Privacy label is just the result of a trivial config error, and that the privacy claims in the blurb are indeed true. Either way, I hope the developer quickly submits a new release that lives up to the privacy hype and updates the App Privacy label to represent that reality.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-10

Refreshed VimNotes app branding.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-04-15

Performance improvements

### 1.0.1 — 2026-04-13

VimNotes 1.0.1 — Türkçe, updates, and polish.

WHAT'S NEW

• Turkish localization. Every screen now speaks English or Türkçe. Pick your language in Settings → Language; the choice sticks across launches.
• Turkish App Store listing so the "What's New", description, and keywords match your interface language.
• Over-the-Air updates. The app silently checks for updates on launch. You can also tap "Check for Updates" in Settings whenever you want. Future bug fixes land without waiting on a store review.
• Updates section in Settings shows the current version, OTA timestamp, and update ID — handy when sending us a bug report.
• Dates in the notes list and Updates footer now format in the active app locale instead of the system default.
• Accessibility: the Check-for-Updates button now reports its disabled state correctly to VoiceOver.

As always, VimNotes stores your notes locally in SQLite and never talks to the network for anything other than checking for its own updates. No account, no sync, no telemetry.
