### 1/5 — To track or not to track …

*2026-09-10*

App Store blurb says:

“PRIVACY-FIRST BY DESIGN
• 100% offline. No accounts. No sign-up. No cloud.
• No analytics. No tracking. No third-party SDKs phoning home.
• Your notes live in a local SQLite database on your device and nowhere else.
• No network permission requested — the app physically cannot exfiltrate your data.”

“VimNotes is free of ads, trackers, telemetry, and subscriptions. One app, one purpose: let you write the way you already think.”

But the App Privacy label says:

“𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂
The following data may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies:
    Identifiers, Usage Data”

(The App Privacy label is consistent with the developer’s linked privacy policy.)

Both claims were submitted to the App Store by the developer.

Which one is true?

I would hope that the current App Privacy label is just the result of a trivial config error, and that the privacy claims in the blurb are indeed true. Either way, I hope the developer quickly submits a new release that lives up to the privacy hype and updates the App Privacy label to represent that reality.
