## What is VintageRack?

VintageRack is a minimalistic and convenient multi-effect application that contains modules realistically modeling notable retro gear from the early digital era with their inherent aesthetics and atmosphere. Most of the effects in this application have been inspired and based on the principles of actual hardware from the 70s and 80s, which is great for giving the sound of any instrument the nostalgic and emotional mood of old recordings.

This application has a clean and intuitive user interface with a well-considered structure. The signal path is split into seven slots: the first for input control, the last for output, and five customizable effect modules in between. Each module features a master fader for adjusting effect presence and a mute button for smooth toggling. These parameters can be easily assigned to MIDI controls right from the main screen, improving both workflow and productivity.

Smooth transitions between presets and on-screen pads for quickly switching presets that can be easily assigned to MIDI controls allow flexible effect selection during live performances or studio recordings.

Another great feature of VintageRack is the ability to set a lower bit depth of processed signal, typical for early digital devices, both for the entire path and for individual modules. As with these devices, this application models pre- and post-processing of the analog signal both before and after the digital circuits with the addition of companders, emphasis and filters, which makes the sound similar to the real devices.

VintageRack is a universal application for iOS and macOS. It can work on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac / MacBook with M1 chip (and later). VintageRack works on iPhone and iPad standalone, as an Audio Unit or Inter-App Audio module, and supports Audiobus and Ableton Link. On MacOS, VintageRack can works both as a standalone application and as an Audio unit (AUv3) with DAWs and other hosts that support AUv3 plugins. All application features are available on iOS and macOS, including MIDI support (with a MIDI learn option) and audio unit parameters. I have owned so many FX apps claiming to emulate real life effects hardware. Some achieve it to some extent, some don't at all. This one sounds EXACTLY like hardware I have used in the past. The flanger, just for one example, gives me goosebumps as it sounds to me like an exact copy my friend's DigiTech multi fx pedal we used to play with in the early 90s. Well worth much more than the price, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Every Igor app is a must have and this one is no different. It’s more straightforward than some of his more esoteric offerings and it saves me processing power to have all my effects in 1 plug-in instead of trying to achieve the same effect with 4-6 plug-ins in AUM. I love cranking down the bit rate and smearing all my sounds with this. 9/10

This app is a unique take on the music FX app, but unlike the others this brings them all under one umbrella app. If you're familiar with the authors UI used in his other apps, you'll feel right at home, but don't worry if you've never used any as this one is surprisingly easy to produce warm and interesting results. Like many of his apps though, on the surface you'll be able to produce something quick and easily, but as you drill down into the many options available, you can find yourself in tweak heaven getting some truly wonderful if not at times bizarre results. The documentation is there if you need it, but for me half the fun is seeing what happens when you dig in and poke something. All in all it's going to compliment and enhance any creative musicians / sound engineer collection of apps.

Seasoned IOS based music makers will have lots of FX apps that do similar things to this one, but few if any accomplish that in the same app. Controls are easy to use, FX very nice warm retro quality, and getting something unique is made easy. What I don’t get is why the presets are all labelled A1, B2, etc, with no clues as to what sounds they include. Also, it is only possible to have 5 modules in use at any one time, and switching their order is not as intuitive as it could be. I’d much prefer it if the app allowed more modules, and swapping positions could be accomplished by simple drag and drop.

Due to an unfortunate bug in the previous version, the bit depth/sampling rate switching option for effect modules stopped working.

Now everything is fixed! You can switch the sound processing resolution for individual effects and for the entire rack.

This feature models the sound processing from today's high-end studio gears to early digital devices with limited resolution, but still very atmospheric sound which is the result of combining analog filters and companders with digital circuits. 

Also this version works great with Logic Pro on iPad and Mac.
