## What is Violearn?

Violearn teaches you to read violin sheet music — and keeps your instrument in tune.

READ REAL NOTATION
A note appears on the treble staff; find it on the violin fingerboard. Naturals, sharps, and flats across first position and beyond.

PRACTICE THAT ADAPTS TO YOU
Violearn tracks every answer and quietly serves you more of the notes you miss, so practice time goes exactly where you need it.

WATCH YOURSELF IMPROVE
Accuracy for every note on the staff, daily practice streaks, best-streak records, and a "needs work" list that shrinks as you learn.

BUILT-IN CHROMATIC TUNER
A precise, easy-to-read tuner with cent-level accuracy. Tune your violin (or anything else) before every session.

DESIGNED FOR BEGINNERS
No account, no setup. Open the app and play your first note in seconds. Adjustable range from 1st position to the full fingerboard as you advance.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6 — 2026-08-15

NEW PRACTICE SESSIONS
Violearn now runs the session, not just the drills. Tune up, warm up,
work a scale, then play music — in that order, the way a lesson goes.
Choose 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes and it builds a session to fit.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-11

Improvements to Tuner and Play performance

### 1.4 — 2026-08-06

IPAD AND LANDSCAPE
Violearn now fills an iPad properly, in either orientation. Turn the screen sideways and Play mode becomes a music stand: the note you're on sits large in the middle, with the notes coming next already on the staff.

A TUNER YOU CAN ACTUALLY TUNE TO
The tuner has been rebuilt. It now measures pitch across many cycles of the string instead of one, so the A and E strings hold steady instead of drifting. Tap any string to pin the tuner to it — the most reliable way to tune. It tells you to tighten or loosen in plain words, and the dial no longer treats a nearly-perfect string as if it were badly out.

PLAY MODE THAT RECOGNISES YOUR PLAYING
Play mode now credits a note when you've basically played it right, which is what tuning on a real violin actually looks like. It learns how your instrument sits against concert pitch and allows for it, and it no longer misses a note because it heard the harmonic instead of the string.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-01

LEARN WITH A COURSE
Practice is now a 12-lesson path: open strings, each string in turn, first position, playing in a key, then the full fingerboard. Lessons unlock as you go, and each ends with your accuracy and a star for 80% or better.

A NEW REVIEW EVERY DAY
Daily Review pulls from everything you've learned and leans on the notes you find hardest, so your sight-reading keeps sharpening instead of fading. It's always there — even once you've finished every lesson.

PRACTICE THAT KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED
Notes you miss, and notes you haven't seen in a while, come around more often. Lessons you haven't touched in a couple of weeks ask for a refresh, so nothing quietly goes rusty.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-24

Play mode (new tab): choose a note, a scale, or a random drill, then play it on your violin — Violearn listens and checks your pitch in real time.
Practice by key: pick from C, G, D, A, E, B, F, Bf and Ef major and read notes with the correct key signature.
60-Second Challenge: race the clock to name as many notes as you can, and beat your best score.
Ear training: hear each note's true pitch when you play it correctly.
Tuner upgrades: tap a string to hear its reference tone, and calibrate concert A from 440–443 Hz.
Happy practicing!
