### 5/5 — Helpful!

*2020-02-09, version 1.0*

I grew up with piano, and have found learning guitar such a brain melter. In a ‘just for fun’ circumstance I recently started playing violin. It is also a string instrument, but having this app is really helping me make some basic connections I need to improve! Thanks. Simple idea, effective results!

### 5/5 — simple and perfect, very useful

*2020-02-07, version 1.0*

can you please please! make a version for cello?

### 5/5 — Small app with big impact!

*2019-12-23*

I’m just starting out, learning violin. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to take formal lessons yet, and have had to rely on online resources for learning.

As a technically oriented person, I struggled to find a clear representation of the note progression on the violin fingerboard, until the first time I played this app. About half-way through the first lesson, it clicked. I was still slow, but I hit fewer wrong notes.

### 5/5 — Great things coming

*2019-12-08*

This app is still under development and so doesnt yet have everything that’s intended. That being said! 🦄✨ This is still phenomenal for getting your brain to associate first position notes on the violin with the actual notes on the staff. 🎻 This was a disconnect i had which was hindering me. How awesome to have a way to practice this even when i can’t take my violin out! It means i can drill in practice almost anywhere! (I miss having a tally of how many rounds or minutes I practiced in a day... like a log. I hope hat gets added soon). This plus the notestrainer app (for 🎹) are a GODSEND. My sight reading has improved dramatically (treble, bass, and grand staff). If u put in the time, you will get better. These apps just make that more easy/accessible. THRILLED. 😆💜

### 5/5 — This is awesome!

*2019-02-25*

I’ve been playing violin for 3 months, and I’ve been having trouble learning to sight read music.
This app is truly a life-saver. I played this app for a few hours, and in one day of downloading I can now sight read most notes and locate them on my instrument! Thank you so much for building this app to help beginning violinists!

### 5/5 — Perfect and simple

*2018-07-18*

This app is great it would be cool if you could keep track of all your times on like a chart or something also I didn’t realize the notes play sound when you touch them you just have to have your silent toggle switch turned off if you have an iPhone

### 5/5 — Violin sight reading trainer

*2018-05-19, version 1.0*

Excellent. Does what it says on the tin.
Can see improvement and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Exactly what we needed

*2017-04-28, version 1.0*

Great little app to learn to identify notes and finger placement.

### 5/5 — Great for learning and improving reading speed

*2016-09-16*

Learning to read music seems so intimidating and laborious, but this app is making it fun for me.
The interface is simple and I was able to get familiar with the basic notes and corresponding finger positions on the violin in no time.
I look forward to improving my time every day. It is hard to believe that this app is free.

### 5/5 — Great app for practice!

*2016-08-26*

I wish this app was around longer. In reality, I play the violin. However, I was never all that great because I am very bad at sight reading when it comes to the higher and lower notes. The one good thing about this app is the strings are laid out like the actual violin where you pick where that note is. For once I wish my phone wasn't as wide, then it'd be like actually playing one.

### 5/5 — Great

*2016-06-06*

On my initial look over of the app, it looked good. I love that it's free, and it really helped me learn my notes. I don't usually write reviews, but I just had to for this very fine application to my phone.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I don’t like it

*2019-10-19*

It’s hard to understand

### 3/5 — Not that great

*2022-03-03*

This app is a little bad because I don’t understand time penalty. It’s really bothersome!☹️

### 4/5 — Good App

*2020-11-23, version 1.0*

It would be better, if you put # on note as well

### 4/5 — Violin sight reading practise

*2020-02-18, version 1.0*

This is a good app for violin sight reading practise. It would be nice if the fingerboard notation was vertical and not horizontal as this would match the holding position of the violin. I guess it is difficult to get all on one page and that is possibly why the fingerboard notation is shown horizontal. Otherwise it is a good note training app.

### 5/5 — Learning The Violin

*2023-12-14*

This is a very straightforward and basic app that helps memorization both for reading the treble clef notes, and finger positioning.
I highly recommend this app if you want to learn the violin with as few crutches as possible. If you learn to walk in your mind without crutches, it’s easier to learn the violin without crutches. I am challenging myself, not to use tape as I have a good ear, and not to use any finger stickers. I do this app as a warm-up between 15 minutes to an hour every single day, both in the morning and at night. If you stop site reading, you will become rusty. keep practicing keep practicing keep practicing.

### 5/5 — Simple, straightforward, and effective.

*2023-10-07*

I try to use this at least once a day, and already my sight reading and note comprehension has improved. Recommend for anyone having trouble learning the staff and for anyone searching for a quick and easy little task to keep your mind sharp when it comes to notes.

### 5/5 — Cello version?

*2021-10-07*

I am a new cello player. Unfamiliar with the Bass clef so I tried the notes trainer app from the same developer. It’s a surprisingly wonderful free app. Thank you Ryan. So I looked up other apps Ryan made and brought me here. Now, would you please make a cello version of this app?

### 5/5 — useful everyday app

*2021-07-19, version 1.0*

i use this every day to better my subpar music skills.

if possible, could u add an option to have the violin swap places from bottom to top of screen so we may utilise our left hands for string placements?

if not, then it's still well and good.
thank you for this creation :)

### 5/5 — I love it!

*2021-03-08*

Easy to use. Does help for sure! My note reading had improved quickly by using this app.

Recommend: should have more higher levels AND maybe reading real songs!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2021-01-03, version 1.0*

This is a truly amazing app, I have been struggling with sight reading for a while now and this app has really helped me. This is the best sight reading practice app I’ve found on the App Store, definitely 5 stars.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple and fantastic

*2020-11-26*

I love this app, I have struggled to learn the fingerings and this has helped a ton. I find myself pretending to play with my left hand and touch the phone with my right. It’s not fancy but it’s perfect!

### 5/5 — Invaluable learning assistant

*2020-08-22, version 1.0*

This app is a wonderful aid to learning sight reading, and very well implemented. It’s great to be able to just pull it out and do a little bit of practice multiple times during the day. Thank you!

Please allow me to pay you for it! 😄

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2020-06-17, version 1.0*

Brlliant helped me identify notes and is pretty much awesome

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2020-05-02*

I don’t normally write reviews; however, this app is free & free of ads, and provides an excellent training resource for someone that is learning to sight read on the violin.
