### 1/5 — Barely works

*2022-04-18*

Garbage all doesn’t work with the latest phones running the latest firmware. Very buggy and barely functional. A disgrace to the institution it represents.

### 1/5 — This App Doesn’t Work

*2022-03-17*

Sad that a university can’t produce a functional app for an 18 euro tour

### 1/5 — Buggy at best

*2022-03-14*

This is probably one of the most buggy apps I’ve ever used. The audio wouldn’t down load off the Trinity supplied hot spot, so a staff member was kind enough to let me tether off her phone (Android). When finally downloaded, many chapters would play partially and then sometimes revert back to the introduction section and start playing for no reason. If a section played correctly, the app would frequently crash right afterwards, causing the user to have to relaunch the app.

After several attempts, I gave up on this poorly tested app and went back to “old school” methods and actually read the displays.

I’d have to say, in theory this app is a great idea, but with all these bugs, it’s clearly not ready for production use and the developers should troubleshoot these bugs more thoroughly using different iPhones.

FYI…the staff member who let me tether said she gets almost all the complaints from iPhone users, not Android.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Book of Keels

*2024-07-27*

Absolutely terrible. Took forever to download. Tour was over by the time it downloaded

### 1/5 — Book of Kells tour

*2024-03-24*

Came to Ireland, part of our experience was to see the book of Kells. 90% of the books were out due to cleaning, but it was not stated that that would be the fact during our tour. We paid full price for a ticket and we’re very disappointed. Would not recommend at the moment.

### 1/5 — Don’t do it

*2022-08-28, version 1.2.5*

Awful experience, paid for the audio guides which was just downloading a free app. Took 15minutes to download. Library is nice.

### 1/5 — App tries and fails completely

*2022-07-14*

Are there any reviews where it is good?

Don’t waste your time. Amazing they can’t design a simple app to play an audio stream. Call rick steeves please.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2022-07-03*

Doesn't work at all. Tap play to listen and nothing happens. Waste of my time and a tour.

### 1/5 — Poor UI design

*2022-06-09*

No idea when segments are downloading or how long it has to go. I assume this is being pushed to my phone in 1s and 0s by hand.

### 1/5 — Useless App

*2022-05-15*

Very poorly written app that never successfully downloaded the audio.
Very poor user experience. Waste of time and actually detracted from my Trinity College experience

### 1/5 — Buggy AP clearly from Medieval times

*2022-05-12*

Not sure how Trinity can call this a virtual guided tour. Spent the first thirty minutes trying to get the AP to play and it finally started but then glitched out within 10 min. Each segment would start playing then cut out and revert back to o another segment of the tour . Got zero info from the speaker and just ended up reading everything . Waste of time and ruined the experience .

### 1/5 — Worst app I’ve ever seen.

*2022-05-12*

Worst app I’ve ever tried to use. Tried is the key word here. Nothing on this app worked at all. Audio tour wouldn’t play, app crashed every time I tried opening it, no WiFi available on campus so you have to download using data.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work-

*2022-05-12*

How can apple allow their users to have this experience.
Trinity college needs to get an IT departmwnt and software coders to create a better experience for visitors.

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works well

*2023-07-17, version 1.2.5*

The app works well and it is a great addition to the visit. This is the future of audio guide, no queue to get it and we can use our one high quality headset. At the end everyone gain from this system, the museum and the visitors.
However, I would have like to have access to both audio tours after paying the high cost of the book of kells visit.

### 5/5 — Book of Kells

*2023-06-01*

Audio guide was outstanding. Gave my wife one of my blue tooth ear devices and we both listened off my phone. Not hurried to get through the exhibit, but it was very crowded.

### 5/5 — Works Great!

*2023-03-27*

10/10

I was skeptical at first after seeing the numerous 1 star reviews. Not the case AT ALL!

Like the book of Kells itself, this app was near perfect, a work of art if I do say so myself.

Cheers🤪🤑

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2022-07-31*

Excellent content and I had no problem with the application. I appreciated the education provided. Thank you!

### 5/5 — App works perfectly fine

*2022-07-31*

I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews.
My sister and I both downloaded and used this app with no problems while visiting Trinity College and during the Book of Kells tour.
Also there is wifi inside where the Book of Kells is. You might wanna download the app before you arrive but it is not a necessity.

### 3/5 — So-so experience

*2024-06-05*

If you buy a ticket to the Book of Kells Experience in advance, the system now sends you a suggestion to bring your own headphones along, which is the only reason I did, so I at least appreciate that. But according to their own materials, the app is supposed to trigger audio when you get near a relevant point and on my iPhone that never once happened. There are also no signs telling you when you’ve reached an audio point (as is typical at museums/sites with audio guides) so it took me at least ten minutes in the extremely crowded exhibition before I realized it was completely up to me to regularly check the app to try to figure out if I was at an audio point. The content itself is good (albeit not as in-depth as I personally would have expected) but even with noise-canceling AirPods, I had to turn the volume to maximum and still sometimes had difficulty hearing as there were fellow visitors listening to the audio guide on speakerphone and no staff ever asked them to stop.

### 3/5 — Bring headphones

*2023-06-05*

This app works well enough but is ideal for use with headphones. The exhibit is crowded so if you don’t have headphones you’ll be tempted to hold it to your ear and will inadvertently pause the audio or play a different stop. It would’ve been better if these controls were positioned lower on the screen so your ear doesn’t hit one of the controls when you’re trying to listen.

### 2/5 — Ok exhibition

*2024-05-01*

Could of been a little more transparent on the 90% of books not currently being displayed. Not that granger moment when entering the space with 10% of the books missing.

### 2/5 — Does not work well

*2022-06-24*

They ask you to download this app to get the book of kells tour. Of the 12 “stops” only 4 worked for me. I dumped and re-downloaded the app. It did not help. The good news is, there is pleanty of printed information within the book of kells exhibit to get a good understanding of the history of the book.
